Who are we?: The RPer's of Gendou! We like to role play, and anyone who likes to role play is invited to join! Why are we here?: To discuss anything relating to role playing on Gendou! We can discuss current RP's, ideas for RP's, tips for making an RP, how to keep an RP alive longer, and etc. Basically anything that relates to RP's here can be discussed. Rules:

Can't really think of a quote at the moment. Working on it though. @Rukia - You aren't the only one, trust me. Few RP's these days manage to last more than a couple of weeks. Very few manage to continue on to the 1000 post limit. Free and Dream is the last RP I joined that is still going (and thriving), and that started quite some time ago. It has been on the edge a few times though. It seems to be a combination of people not having as much time to post (or not having the will to read and catch up on things they have missed) and others who get bored with the RP and simply leave. Leaving without telling anyone that you are dropping out is one thing that bugs me quite a lot. It's pushed me to start sending out PM's to people every now and then to check on their participation. |

@ Rukia- Yeah, Jon's right about you not being the only one. The only RP that I've joined that's still going strong is Free & Dream, and he is right about that being on the edge sometimes. I've been in about 30 RP's (I made a count of them not too long ago, so that number is somewhat accurate), and out of all 30 or so of those RP's only one has continued for a long time, which is Free & Dream. And that was the first RP I joined on Gendou too... It's kind of weird but also kind of interesting in a way, since that was the first RP I was in and that RP got me to RP more on Gendou. |

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I also agree that it's quit bothersome when people simply quit with no word of it. I think if you join an RP you should be dedicated, if things change one should let the creator know instead of disappearing. It's nice to see RP's last so long, so rare these days. I was surprised to see how long The Dojo lasted, wasn't very pow in your face but I was with it through all 4 of its threads -- and even joined it's revival..sadly that one died. But it's because of the Dojo that I RP now. I'm still not great at it, but I've grown :) |

What bugs me the most is when people reserve a spot and don't even post up their character. It's happened to me a couple of times too; it was the same person each time

That is why I try to join/be active in 2-4 RP's at a time. I'm hoping that at least one of them will catch and stay alive. I'm noticing a few trends forming as well, or at least I think I am. -Some people seem to be specifying in their RP's that only serious applicants should join, but I don't think that will work very well in keeping the RP active. You can't reject people who do drop out from any of your future RP's (since that's technically against the 'All threads are public' Forum Rule) and I don't think anyone joins an RP with the intent to drop out down the road. It could encourage only dedicated RP members to apply, but so far I haven't seen it work that way. Too soon to tell at the moment. -The other is RP invitations. I've been receiving quite a few over the past couple of weeks. Not sure how well this works since I don't know what other members received messages and accepted, but the idea is sound. I tried this tonight for my Valkyria Chronicles RP (to try and bring it back to life before it hits the dreaded second page, but I don't think I will be doing it again. I don't really feel all that comfortable with putting people on the spot. I hate to tell people 'No' as well, I'm bad for that, not just in that scenario. |

@ Rukia- I hate that so much, when people are in the RP and then all of a sudden they quit without letting you know about it. It can really screw things up sometimes, depending on where the character was in the RP and how important of a role they played. It would be easier for the creator and everyone else in the RP if they just let everyone know they were leaving through a post, or by PMing the creator. @ Jon- Yeah, I've noticed both of those trends starting to happen now as well. You're also right about the first one being too soon to tell if it's working yet. With invites... I don't really mind them if I get them once in awhile, from different people, but if I get them from the same person every time I get an invite it starts to bug me. And I also hate to tell the people who send me invites that I can't join the RP, if that's the case I just don't reply to the message... (And on another note I'll join Valkyria Chronicles, just give me a day or so for making the character. It looked interesting to me, but the weekend you started it I was on a trip and with finals around that time I couldn't join. But I'll join now.) |

It is really disappointing that other member just join the RP just because it's in and popular then if it's not anymore that popular they tend to forgot and leave without any warning. Also, it's really upsetting that member will post their profile then they won't be posting "ANYTHING" at all. =\ They just like pimping up their profile and tell the RPer's "Hey see my profile? It's cool ain't it? Yeah!" then it will just end there. Can't they realized that BEFORE joining an RP they should HELD RESPONSIBILITY with their post or with them joining? =\ I will not mention the RP and the RP master that I'd talked with regarding to this RP, but it's really disappointing that the master already said that who only are dedicated RP'er can only join. Well as for me, there's nothing wrong with it, it would avoid the RP dies. It's not also rude to decline a member to join an RP especially if that member is known for being a cause of a death of an RP. About the invites, it's okay for me as long as they have limitations. I don't want RP master bugging users all the time to join this or that RP, once is okay but thrice? fourth? fifth time? I tend to ignore it. |

@ Zen- I agree with the invitation things, I think I've gotten 3 from the same person before (Actually, I think I've gotten 3 from two people before. They were for different RP's, but still.) and you're right about it getting repetitive. And that's what I do if the invites start to annoy me, usually I'll just start to ignore them. It's not like you can force someone to join an RP, especially if they don't think the RP is interesting (That's happened to me a lot, I've had to ignore invites because the RP didn't appeal to me). But with declining people to join an RP, that seems to be going too far. If the person doesn't respond, I would first PM them to try and get them to respond, and if they don't respond to the PM or the RP I would probably just kill their character (or just ignore their character entirely if they haven't posted anything but the profile). Although, the people who don't post anything but the profile really have led to the death of RP's, especially those with a limited cast where every spot is critical. Take the first RP I created, Destiny Card Battle, as an example. I'm not sure if you're familiar with it, but there were only 20 slots as Guardian Candidates for the RP. And I needed everyone in those slots to post as well, since they would be eliminated down and eventually there would be one winner (Or that's how it was explained, I actually had something different in mind if it saw an ending, which it never did). But out of those 20, I think only around 15 made an actual post, and from that 15 only 8 made a post after that to continue with the RP (Maybe not those exact numbers, but something like that). You're right, it is disappointing how people join an RP because of popularity. |
