Is my download count wrong? I only downloaded X songs, but it says Y!
Every time you click on a download link, your download count is incremented by one. Even if you cancel the download right away, it still counts. This is nothing to worry about, because there is no enforced limit on downloading. If you notice the download count incrementing by more than one each click, it means your browser is sending multiple requests for the song. This is a problem with your browser which can most likely be fixed by carefully following the download instructions in this FAQ. Additionally, download accelerators may cause your downloads to fail, causing an increased download count.

What is the capitalization standard for the lyrics page?
Foreign words and anything in Katakana should be in all CAPITAL LETTERS, everything else is lowercase. If an English word is used in a Japanese sentence, it is written in uppercase, using Japanese spelling. An entire english sentence or sentence fragment should be written in uppercase, using English spelling. Please notice that you do not capitalize the first letter of a line or sentence as you would in English! Mono-width spaces (the ones used in Kanji) are NOT to be used in Romaji!

What is the formatting standard for the lyrics pages?
If the Kanji lyrics are available, use the same pattern of line breaks for the Romaji and English lyrics. Otherwise, each measure should be on one line, with two line breaks separating sections. For those not musically inclined, it is safe to insert a line break after each pause in the song. If a line of Romaji or English exceeds 80 characters, it is probably too long. Please, do not re-format song lyrics unless there is an important reason to do so! Tabs and double spaces will be converted to spaces, so don't bother typing them. More than one blank line in a row will be converted to only one blank line.

What is the meaning of a "Pending" upload?
When you upload a song, it will be pending until I get a chance to review it and assign upload points, if applicable. Your file may be pending for a very long time, because there are more uploads then I can often handle in a day. So, please be patient, and thanks for uploading!

Some songs have no vocals, and thus no lyrics page. If you notice a song that has no lyrics, but still have a lyrics page, please let me know here.
All songs with vocals should have a lyrics page. There are 5 sections to every lyrics page:
  • Romaji should contain the original lyrics, even if they aren't in Japanese, with the exception that the lyrics originally in English.
  • Kanji should contain the Japanese text version of the song lyrics, which may be translated into Japanese from the original language.
  • English should contain the English translation of the lyrics, or the original lyrics if they are in English.
  • Discuss should ONLY be used for translation discussion! Do not use the Discuss section to express your personal opinion as unrelated to translation, or to request lyrics be added or completed. When you make a change to the Discuss section, please leave "----" next to your remarks, so your signature can be added.
  • History contains a log of all changes to the lyrics page you are viewing.
Due to the possibility for disagreement, and as with any wiki-like system, lyrics pages can be locked by staff. No changes can be made to a locked lyrics page. If there is an obvious error or missing lyrics on a locked lyrics page, please let me know here.

Why are download accelerators prohibited?
The technology behind a download accelerator is simple: create many connections to download a file piece by piece in parallel. Bandwidth is a measure of how much data can be sent over the Internet in a given period of time. This website has limited bandwidth, which is split evenly among all the people who are currently downloading. Download accelerators selfishly rob other users of their fair share of the bandwidth by taking up many shares at once. So, in order to ensure that there is enough bandwidth for everybody, including YOU, I have prohibited the use of download accelerators.

Requests made by donators are highlighted in blue so that they can be easily recognized.

Sometimes you may not be able to download these songs until they are a few days old, giving priority to members who have donated $1 (USD) or more. If this is the case, you will be unable to click on them. Simply donate a few dollars and you will be able to download songs the moment they are released!

Why are some songs highlighted in red?
Songs highlighted in red are offline, the files have been deleted from the webserver. Request the song and I will put them online as soon as possible.

Why are we no longer allowed to request songs from the anime ___?
Sometimes Gendou.com is asked by the industry to discontinue distribution of certain songs. While this is an unfortunate happenstance, the wishes of copyright owners will always be respected here. Please do NOT ask further questions regarding this matter, it is not up to question in the least.

Why can't I download new (blue highlighted) songs?

Why can't I submit requests?
From time to time the request system will be disabled by Gendou. It will usually be back up in a few days, or whenever Gendou is ready to receive more requests. There is a maximum limit on the number of active requests you may have at a time, at the time of this writing, this number is 5 (it is subject to change).

Why did I get negative upload points?
Because the upload was in violation of some rule. Please do not dispute upload points in the forum or with staff.

Why did I receive 0 (zero) points for my upload?
The volume of requests FAR exceeds the capacity of gendou.com to host songs, so many requests will be regretfully removed. When this happens, uploads for that request are cleared out, and awarded 0 (zero) points, because they were not used. This is unfortunate, but please do not complain about it in the forum. Thank you.

Why do I have to login to download?
This is for security as well as display purposes. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why is there not a tab for lyrics in my language?
The mission of the lyrics system is to provide Kanji, Romaji, and English lyrics to songs in the music database. I understand some people may wish to read translations into other languages, but to allow this would increase the scope of the system to an unmanageable proportion.
