I did a thread relating to money in past website.

1. If money never exists, the world would be much worse. Nothing is for free, sadly. No oil dealers wants oil to be used freely due to its limited supply. Stealing will be a global crime. And everyone wants money to make each transaction fair! One party must have something in return. Which this sadly also applies to illegal trading and underground activities. Some people use money in exchange for illegal choices--- black market, bribery, money laundering, drugs, arms--- money is just an important object of transaction and exchange. Humans bring up the motive of common and serious crimes.

2. Even if money never exists, a single transaction won't be fair enough. It's a thing of offer--- if you want a special edition manga collection which is under the belonging of another person who wants to sell or exchange, that person wants something fair and good in return.

3. Obviously, we won't be technologically advanced without money. We pay the tax to government, the goverment must invest to provide sufficient latest services and equipment technology in all sectors. Without money, farmers cannot cultivate their farms due to insufficiency in money to spend on farm machinery and other tools, inventors cannot invest for a costly project. That includes no outer space discoveries, no advanced state of the art machinery, no invention of aspirin, no Playstations, no internet.

Money is just a means of currency. Say we were to elimate the US dollar (along with all the other international currencies). If I'm a farmer, I still nead tools to harvest my crops. Instead of using the dollar, I would just use a share of my crops to trade with a blacksmith to get the tool. In short, money is a tool of convenence by setting a standard to commpare and "hagle" with. This arguement however, doesn't account for the existance of different currencies or inflation rates.

yeah i agree with Damean, whether we eliminated money or not it's just a way to trade and to fulfill our need

in the past we hunt and plant, but thats to simple and taking a long time, when people learn the technologies they also learn trading to fulfill their need, then come along money as a tool of trade, if we eliminated money, then we just go back to trading again. we can never escape our need, and to fulfill them we do anything

Back in the old days, they mostly traded for other goods.
Now though, it might not be as easy as it used to be.
Things are way more valuable then others and certain objects just simply cannot be traded.
Money is too important now, or it's a very huge part in the economy.

barter has never been easy...

its difficult to look for a person who has things you need and wants the thing your offering for exchange

the value of the good traded have unequal values

its too time consuming, cumbersome and inconvenient for individuals

so money being invented was inevitable

money can never "never exist"...

Then people will trade.

Until they are tired of trading, and agrees to make something to represent value and is acceptable by everyone, money that is. That's happening to our world now, by the way.

But waaaay back then there was never any money, never. and the world was doing just fine, really.

Sai's right. If we never found an easier way of currency, we would just continue with what we've done from the beginning; we'd trade. If there we never money, we wouldn't have that much problem with banks and taxes would be a bit easier to pay. Instead of using money to pay for everything, we'd be able to use different items to trade. The saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure," would be an important moral and our world wouldn't revolve around money like it does today. Unfortunately, the world revolves around money these days, and the thing is, if we never had money, then ppl wouldn't be out of jobs so badly. They would just be able to trade things and get on with their lives, just like we would. Everyone in the world has things, but not everyone has money.

yes the world was doing ok with trading but then they would use a primitive way to put a "value" on items like using salt, jewelry, livestock and rice as means to measure the value of goods..which lead to the creation of money so even with trading the essence and the purpose of money is already present

but really if bartering and trading was really all that successful, why was "money" created? it just shows that barter is hard and cumbersome...if i have let say...a sack of rice and i want to eat some fish...what are the chances that i can find
someone who has fish and is willing to trade it for rice?

and bartering has one major flaw...the value of goods traded are of unequal value...a kilo of rice for a kilo of fish? is that even worth it?

not using money will make life more difficult, bartering would cause more heated arguments and such...money is just a representation of value nothing more nothing less...

i like the initial idea of no money in the world
i'd be able to do a lot of things i can't right at the moment

however with no money in the world that would create communisum and as we learned from history communisim only looks good on paper because a corrupt leader will come around and make it into an international dictatorship

In an economic point of view, a world without any monetary system would be an inconvenience. It would be a hassle for everyone to purchase what they want because everyone will have to resort to barter trade. That means everyone will have to bring all their belongings to trade for other goods that they want. Sure you can say it worked well in the past thousand years. But as society progressed, it became more inconvenient for people to bring all that they have and put it up in the market to trade. You wouldn't want to bring your fridge all the way to Wal-Mart just so you can have a sofa, will you?

And aside for the inconveniece that barter trade has, it also has some major flaws. Case in point: the item's value. As time passes, the quality of the item deteriorates, and so does its value. And as Zparticus has said, the value of goods traded for are of unequal value. That means some items can cost more or less than the items that you are about to trade.

So I guess...a world without money sucks big time...

What if I jump out
of this speeding jeepney?
Fly without wings
Reach for the grey-painted heaven
And out into the sea of infinity?

-if m0ney never exist,is world be better? i dont think so... traders had a hard time trading stuff before because they brought big things with them for trading so with money everyhtign became easier...

-if m0ney never exists, are we never advance to a new world with techn0logy? yes... as we can see there was an advancement from the big stuff to money xDD or from simple to more complex xD

-if m0ney never exists, will the world become chaos? who knows... maybe no maybe yes... we'll know that once money will never exist ;pp

if money doesnt exist then fine.. there must be sum kind of new thing that will substitute money... hu knows it myt be beter than money but oh well now money is really importatnt since its what the human race cares about xD

@Black King- Hold on a minute. Your quotes stated:

"No, we wouldn't have good technology if money didn't exist because without money people would need to trade goods. This would mean any ideas of computers would never take off because people would not want to trade anything precious (ex. food) for a device they found unnecessary (because the first computers were awfully useless)."

You think the first early prototypes of computer were useless? You think the first early prototypes of computer were not like iBooks?!? The functions were limited back then, due to early form of computer programming scripts and other breakthroughs. We need money to be advanced to technology, no matter how crappy the first early protoypes are! You made the early inventions sounded not worth the damn being invented, along with funds sponsored by the Government (or inventors themselves). Most early computers were not intended for personal use and they were usually used in workplaces for efficiency and convenience, in saving more money for their businesses. In the end, the business firms paid their tax to Govt, then the Govt funded the inventors to improvise their computer programming projects and more.

"No, the world would not be in chaos if there was no money because the world was not in chaos when people still traded goods and a world without money would be no different than then."

You were not being logical. Even if ppl follow the trading (exchanging) goods, they sure will be a chaos. Trading goods will be the money. Goods worth the value, goods as valuable as the trader's passion, goods that people might worth fighting for. If you, an oil dealer, just trade oil to buyers who want oil, he/she will give you... let's say, food supplies. What is the connection between oil and food supplies? None. It must have a thing of relevance here. Relevance establishes logic and fair play. Oil links to geopolitics, war crisis, inflation. And how are you gonna pay for all that mess? Money is an object of currency, not goods which may considered as junk and irrelevant. Money allows buyers to buy oil, and this allows the oil company firm to invest their profit in improving the business and money markets and also reducing geopolitical crisis by going green. If by trading goods, food supplies won't do the fairy trick.

@kohan- No money, no global warming? Earth will be better, no matter how backward the technological advances and poorly-developed study of economics? You underestimated the situation. Poor technological advances and poor Economics won't affect the underground activites, which mostly are illegal. Criminals will trade goods illegally for unregistered, prohibited goods and even illegal business contracts. Money, at least, can act as a trading barrier, which is treated as a fee or a fine. Next, money allows inventors to invest money for bringing up projects to protect the environment and other geopolitical issues. Money does not affect global warming, it can be either from people who uses loads of non-ozone friendly hairsprays everyday or Planet Earth's natural reactions.

@Eon- Believe me, money is no item of evil. Money never done anything wrong. Money cannot differentiate right and wrong. Humans immortalise the truly importance of money, which brings any level of wealth. By that, not all seem to suffice to that fair play. These become greedy, money will put their lives at stake. It's humans who brought up this doubt of money's characteristic--- right or wrong, good or evil--- Money ain't no God, neither the Devil, just a fair token we need to understand what fair play is all about.

if money never existed...

then there wil never be means of buying goods and demand to people.
maybe people wouldn't that greed with materials things.

if money never exist, things will be complicated, especially bussiness, how are we gonna buy things?

there will be real headache!

well, although money can cause greed but it's not the root of all evil. It depends on the human itself on how they see and spend it. Money can make someone to work harder too, but not to be too over work x.x

in short, if money never do exist, this world will be in ... @w@;; i forgot the word ... errr... juz let say the world will be complicated or simpler ^^"
