Re: Has anyone here ever been to Japan?

I've been to Japan once, a few years back. To be brutally honest, not the best place in the world. I can think of several other countries I'd rather go back to before Japan. Sure its cool and all, but its really just like America hopped up on crazy-pills. They want to be like us SO BAD its not even funny. The people aren't particularly friendly, especially to foreigners. They actually DISCRIMINATE against foreigners, and in some cases fear them. Also, the country isn't very tourist-friendly language-wise either. If you don't know Japanese, you're BONED, my friend. Points of interest are difficult to locate. Restaurants, shops, and the streets themselves fill up really fast at rush-hour and at lunch time. That being said, Japan is a marvelous country. Lots of history, some beautiful locations. Wonderfully exotic foods. Crazy cool technology that we probably wont see in our homes for at least 5 years... Just don't expect it to be like the Japan you imagine it to be... they hate OTAKU over there too. |

@Doom46-I agree about tourist-friendly language wise, but a lot of signs have English language underneath the Japanese language. I guess you don't see that when you were there. And the rush hour are filling up very quickly in those places you mentioned. But I have to say, Japan's not the best place, but it's a nice country to visit if you like anime & manga, the language, history culture or technology. |

I've been to Japan before for school as a transfer student and for vacation. I've been to Tokyo (who hasn't) Osaka Mt. Fuji, Okanawa, and my favorite Kyoto. I recommend Kyoto, best site seeing place ever. I really enjoyed the Cinema Village in Kyoto, had a lot a fun there. |

I've been twice! First time I went with my family, first to ski/snowboard in Sapporo, and then we then chilled out in Tokyo - was a great tourist experience, and we totally weren't there long enough to start hating the place or anything XDD! Second time was I believe the following winter, or maybe the year after, it's been a pretty long while, but I went for 3 weeks for a homestay in Aomori, which is basically the last possible prefecture before actually going over to Hokkaido. It. Was. Freezing. And seeing as I came from a tropical country, the snow was just liek OH MY GOD SNOW EVERYWHERE AHHHHHHHHHH (the me now laughs at the me back then - we have about that much snow here in London these days too apparently!). But. Yeah. That was a pretty amazing homestay experience - I got to attend my host father's high school (he's a teacher. And so was my host mother, but at a different school), and I made a lot of friends, and it was great :D! And I loved my host family, they were adorable~~ ...I really should have sent them a New Year's Card :(. It totally slipped my mind ;A;. |

| If staying at the Narita airport for a few hours counts? Then yes. If not, then no. I would like to go, just for cultural experiences, though :) |

Anna, staying in Narita for a few hours doesn't count. @Dai-I can't believe you went to Akihabara directly. Looks like you like that place a lot, right? Apart from technology, there's cheap manga in that place. |

I went to Hokkaido last year. It was snowing~ :D The tour guide there said that the snow in Hokkaido is special, somehow more solid than those in other places. The seafood is the BEST! Yup. Nice weather. I got to see the indigenous Ainu peoples. It was quite cold though. Hot springs are a must when you go to HOKKAIDO :D Its my first trip there. There are a lot of nice places. I hope I can go there again. I wanna go Tokyo! Harajuku! I JUST WANT TO GO THERE AGAIN :p |

| I have had the opportunity to go to Tokyo, Sasebo, Tokushima and Okinawa. Over all Japan is a good place. I can't read Japanese so I always had the feeling of being illiterate.... over all though it feels like a safe place and its probably one of the cleanest places I have been. |
