Well, maybe not really a slowdown.. For the past day or two, pages on Gendou are loading pretty slowly. Actually, it's more like it takes a while for the server to respond or something. I'm pretty sure it isn't my connection; I tried browsing the forums at school on a T3 line. Is something going on, or am I just being impatient? :P Edit: Okay, things are responding faster now .. but there are still bits of slow responsiveness. Maybe it is me. :\    |

it's not just you. i wonder if it's even slower for me because i'm unfortunate enough to still have dial-up? =/     |

It's been happening to, though it's not entirely me or gendou at the same time. Sometimes, I'll wait for 2 minutes on a cable connection before it loads, saying "Page loaded in 0.4353 seconds", other times it says it could not be found, sometimes it'll say "Page loaded in 54.126 seconds"... it's really erratic... I think it's because I only have 1 DNS (?), and I'm supposed to have at least two...  |

I think the problem(?) is server side. Hope this gets resolved quickly! Cuz we all love Gendou, right?! :D |

There is some issue with apache. It seems like a memory leak but you never know. I am investigating the problem, and have learned how to solve the problem once it shows itself. The long loading time at the bottom is a result of deadlock which occurs in the database by the pile up of requests. Hopefully, this is a temporary problem that can be fixed soon. Sorry!

Hope it gets fixed soon. Being at school on that fast connection.. I was almost banging my head on the keyboard because I couldn't get my Gendou(.com) fix. :P |

during normal operation, page load time varies upon number and difficulty of queries. on the /forum/index.php page, the total number of posts and views for every topic need to be calculated. this is more work than /forum/topic.php, which only calculates those totals for threads under the one topic being viewed.

the speed improved a little but on certain occasions,it'll really slowdown.especially when i'm posting in the forums.i'll get the 'server time out' pop-up in my firefox browser.(wonder if anybody else have the same problem) but since i'm used to lagginess,guess it's quite ok for me. |

after some exploring using top/ps/free/netstat, i have come to the conclusion that the only way to improve things is to add more ram to my server. i ordered the ram just now, but im not sure how im going to pay for it. they charge $100 for installation and $15/mo for a 512MB chip! :( NEWS! i just discovered a bug which may explain the long time it takes to post a reply!!

So is there anything (cruel) and unusual happening in terms of slowdowns? I haven't noticed anything lately. Had a couple bouts of slow responsiveness moving in and out of forums, but that's most likely to be something on my end. And with this new RAM + $15/mo ... I'm going to drop something in the bucket as soon as I'm allowed money in my account again. :o |

thanks riceboks. the main issue is that more mp3s are being hosted of the same server that is running apache. if the ram upgrade is not enough to prevent major slow-downs, i will be forced to add songs to my alternative servers. to the end user, this will not be an issue.

i have made further code changes. you will notice that deleted users are now included in the userlist.php other than that, the changes should be invisible, except for obvious speed improvements!

I'm noticing the main /forum/index.php page loading much more smoothly than before. Heck, everything's running more smoothly and more quickly. Bah, I need to get money into my account so I can thank you more properly. >:) |
