what is considered "proper grammar" changes over time. this is the evolution of language. i do not have a problem with this, but i do have a problem with people who are so lazy they can't type 3 extra letters to allow me to more easily read their typing. this is rude. there are no two ways about it.

when people post things "lyke" instead of "like" or other variation of the word it is normally just for chat speak purposes and not lack of ability to actually spell the word. Some people just type too fast and don't care. Some people can't spell.

gij, if you're from a country where English is not your main language, I don't blame you if you can't type that well. What I don't like is people that that are 17 and typn lyke tis cuz tey r 2 lzy 2 typ te hol wrd. And capitalization, that's not that important. I don't mind people typing without any capital letters, I really don't see a need to. But if you type correctly, then people can see what you mean better ^_^  |

I'm from the southren U.S. We use ain't as isn't,but try not to rag on people's GRAMMAR when you use made up southern words. Especially when this is about spelling,not the english grammical thread. |

a lot of people don't use "caps" when typing. i shure know a lot of time I don't unless i am really trying to get a point across. and not to sound dumb.. and sorry about the angel.. but what does "azn" mean

I dunno... i had no trouble reading that little comment you copied from his thread notes... maybe you just are having trouble because the fact that he has character traits to reveal about himself does not appeal to you. In my opinion typing that way does not show laziness as most of the time it is not shorter (i.e tyme = time = 4 letters) however it shows a difference in the person typing it... if everyone uses the same grammatical rules it looks like we are all writing essay or something... and gendou, while some use words completely untranslatable (if thats a word) most of the time its just a little bit of fun and a way to stand out amongst the other people.... is that a problem??? coz if it is that rather mindless!
hmmm... cant b stuffed making 1 at 10:30 pm... will do it laterz...

@ rose azn is the word people use as a shortening to the word asian... it is just a form of slang

嬰 å…’ æ«» 桃 女 å© : Difference ain't the big thing. The important thing is how a person expresses what she/he wants to say to her/his audience what she/he wants to say. If someone can relay her/his message CLEARLY using any sort of alternative terms, that is still fairly accepted. But if, and only if, because that individual wants to look COOL but didn't consider to making her/his message to be understandable by others, then that isn't the correct attitude.

@ Jad [Alt] Kaizer and who are all of you to judge how stonedazn writes and his reasons for writing that way. only he can truly tell you why he uses such slang expressions... which he would but unfortunately he is blocked and cant which is why i am speaking on his behalf anyway... i think it is ruthless and unfair to judge and talk about someone who does not have the oppertunity to stand up for themself!

Hmmm i try to use capitalization whenever possible....cause thats the way i do it i guess. I try to use proper words with no "shortcuts", cause there are people who might not understand like me(when i was young). I only talk slang and with "shortcuts" with the people i know(if i know that they understand me with my way of talking). I dont really bother with commas n stuff, although i still try to put em in the right places. 
I prefer being alone so do me a favor and leave me be.... |

@kotuso that's the point this ISN'T about english grammar, nor should this be about spelling problem. and i ragged on people's grammar because of the previous posts of other users if you bothered to read them (which i supposed you didn't because you didn't get the point) who seemed to be conscious of their or other people's grammar (in posting on threads) and not because i'm trying to be a linguist. you must have misunderstood. thank you very much. you see, they were talking about spelling and then capitalization and then grammar. what's this, english subj? that's why i'm saying that grammar should not matter here nor in other threads. this ISN'T formal letter. by the way, shouldn't that be 'southern' not southren? were you just too lazy too to correct typo errors? or you have spelling problem too? what would happen to this forum if every now and then there would be posts such as 'please use the correct spelling' or 'your grammar is incorrect' or 'you should capitalize by hook or by crook' that's my point, mr.kotuso. i don't like those because i'd be very conscious with my english just like in my normal life (in dealing with employees) when all along i thought (here) i wouldn't have to. if ain't ain't a word, it is still part of a language. linguists study them. even if you just invented it and use exclusively by a group, it constructs a 'lingo'. even gays have their own, if you know what i mean. for me those people you're referring to (those with missing-letters-posts) just wanted to be noticed; in filipino, they are KSP or kulang sa pansin (lacking attention) or YES they could also claim about their so-called 'style'. what i don't believe is you guys thinking that these people actually have spelling problems. they're so obvious and perhaps intentional. plus typo errors or laziness, but not poor spelling or grammar problem. if you shortcut typographical, perhaps it is because of laziness. if they wanted to post that way and no one could understand them that's their problem. they would knew you didn't like it by replying to their posts on the same thread (if you really care) and not ranting on a different thread about 'WRONG SPELLING'.  |

Point: If yae see someone misspell a word, do the appropriate corrections. Quit the stupid talk, take action! However, if he/she doesn't listen and persistency comes, ignore. It’s not your problem anymore; at least, there’s reassurance that you’ve done your part. Seriously you guys, you're taking this whole thing too seriously. Instead of all this fighting and such, let's just put down our views nice and peacefully. My view: I think that people should spell correctly if possible, however I'm not going to apply that rule if your first language isn't English. I said that before, if you want proof. |
