I think some do.. Like people that always appear in anime like Crispin Freeman, and Michelle Ruff... They can at least pronounce names correctly... now the X/1999 Movie... they couldn't get anything right lol.. they kept pronouncing Kamui like can.. like a can of soup, only it'd be like a kan of soup lol.... sounded like they were saying Canui..... ehh w/e.. it just depends on how much experience they've had I gues... Im going to go to voice acting school and try to get job in dubbing anime, and I think I could do a pretty good job ^-^

Kaimira, I agree with you. The quality of the voice acting all depoends on the experience and dedication of the actor.

Although, there are times when even if they did take their job seriously, they just plain suck.

I don't think it depends on experience, it's just who you are and whether or not you've got the "talent" per say, for it... I mean there's some people who've prolly never had a day of real experience in their life but they totally kick butt... and as for others some just suck... Voice acting is a lot like actual acting for a play or a movie or what not, the only thing is people won't see you, the face behind the voice the only thing they'll see is an animated image projected with the voice, so in actuality voice actors have to be even better then movie/tv actors... It takes a certain amount of what I'll call "talent" to be able to put emotion into your voice alone so that it goes with what is being projected on a screen... it's no easy task, but very rewarding if a good job is done... and good luck to Kamira with your voice acting, hope to hear you some day in the future... I was thinking about it myself but I'm not sure what I want to go into now anymore...

have you noticed the voices for the US cartoons are much better than the ones for dubbed animes? and have you noticed how there are less commercials for US cartoons? you know why? Because.... (and i have a good example) the production companies for imported animes have such a limited budget that they are unable to make them good. They cut parts of episodes from its original 23 minutes to 20, so thye can stuff in more ads to get funding, because of the low budget, they can't hire professional actors, so they go to schools and pull kids from classes to do the voices, I remember they actually had a contest at burger king, where if you can mimic the voices of each BeyBlade character, they'll let you dub the new beyblade series. And the two i've listed are just part of the wide scheme of nationalist pride and such, but I don't wanna get into that, takes too much time and might start me an unecessary debate.

I'll eat you.

Some anime dub voice actors care about what they're doing, like Vic Mignogna (FMA). It depends on how well they can pronounce the character's names. Also, a Japanese accent is different from an American's, so that's going to be a difference. And most Americans can't pronounce a Japanese name or phrase as fast as a Japanese could, so they have to pronounce it slowly.

Well, if they didn't care about the anime they dub, then why get into the business in the first place? They might not seem sincere because it's not of their creation. You know, it's like seeing an (let's say) American girl wear a Japanese kimono; not a good combination. But it's nice that they're trying.

I agree! They really don't care or even try to understand the anime or the character... especially the crying part... Can't stand it at all.. They should realized that voice acting is not a reading job!

Hmh... Probably they don't even take voice acting seriously... Because many of them just think an anime as another cheap cartoon for kids, and even more it's not originally from the US as midori said there... So there's no need to pay a professional to make foreign stuff look good -_-

I agree... so many good animes... like Naruto!

Though, I DO have to admit that Bleach and FMA are pretty good dubs. Still, Colonel doesn't sound as kawaii as Taisha!

I was a person back then. I could smile and laugh and... feel. All the colors... all the hurt... all the laughing... it all went away. All of them.

They used words like brain damage... and cerebral trauma. But even then I understood. I was safe... safe from the bad thing.

I'm kind of split on it.

In the English versions they sometimes don't give off the emotion that Japanese voice actors do. On the other hand the Japanese voices tend to be a little. . overly dramatic sometimes. The yelling or screaming goes a little too far sometimes.

The other thing I found (personally) is that when there's a funny part in the Anime the Japanese voices don't do it well. It's not really as humorous as the English. I mean I've seen the English version of Love Hina and the Japanese version, but the English voices were funnier then the Japanese.

Overall, I don't really mind. I'd rather have English since I don't have to read every single thing, but the Japanese is better a good amount of the time.

@Gecko- That's not exactly how it works. The Beyblade contest thing I don't know about but the other stuff is off. Cartoons and Anime don't get that many commercials. Cutting the show down doesn't generate funds to pay the studios, ad money goes to the station the show is showing on. English voice actors are professionals, they aren't pulled randomly to act and are paid to do their job. (This is based on Anime here in Canada, I don't really watch too many American dubbed anime so I don't know if things are done differently or not.

We all know dubbed anime is not the best, compared to the original of course, but there are a few anime nowadays that are exceptionally well dubbed.
GTO's the first anime that comes to my mind.
Similar to what Jon said about the voices of Love Hina, I can say here about Onizuka's voice.
If you know about his personality and how he chills in life, the English voice of Onizuka is completely better.
He's more of a bad455 then the Japanese version and I choose this dub over the original since Onizuka is the main character 'n' all.

Other anime like FMA and Gundam Wing were dubbed great as well.
For a good dub actor to be successful at his/her job, you have to check out what you're dubbing first of all.
Observing the lips, reaction, how they say the words (emotion, plain, etc.), you know that kind of stuff.
You can't expect them to remake the anime, that's not really possible so you have to try to blend in to the best of your ability.
Sure there's a lot of dubbed anime that just say words and then there are great dubbed anime that are really committed and study the original version very well.

Overall, I think dubbed companies are getting better at what they're doing... at least I hope so since new anime are coming in and it'll only get a bit more complex years later.

ROD dubbed is also great to hear tebayo~ lol I actually find it intriguing about what Jon had said about the over dramatic screeching XD the "gasps" are different than the gasps in cartoons dattebayo~

Anyone has Animax channel? I kinda hate it now. Ever since they dubbed all of the animes, anime characters sounded THE SAME with other characters in other animes tebayo~! [in fact, they have the same voice actors] Just imagination the voice of Sakura from Cardcaptor has the same voice of NIna from Ultra Maniac. The voice of Mokona is the voice of ALL the pet mascots on almost all of the anime [e.g. Kero from CCS, Bowmeow from DaaDaaDaa and so on] it seems that Animax couldn't get that much voice actors for their channel tebayo~ XD

The only dubbed version of an anime I like MORE than the original is Yu Yu Hakusho. XD I felt the VAs did a good job a majority of the time.

Bleach's dub is so-so, but there are some voices that didn't seem to match. Well, at least Gin didn't get the Southern accent because he spoke Osaka dialect. That has to be one of my pet peeves in dubbing. ><;;;

ADV and 4kids are high up on my list as the worst dubbing companies.

Hmmm... well, in my opinion, it all depends on:

1. The company doing the dubbing, and

2. The medium.

For example, even though I never saw the Tokyo Mew Mew dub, I know it sucks because I read a comparison site for it, and I have 13 of the original episodes. I really liked Princess Mononoke dubbed, however. (And the got the names right most of the time, too... unlike the trailer... who in the heck is "Monanoki?") The differences I listed can be immediately seen: since Princess Mononoke was being marketed as a "family film" (sort of), there was no pressure to chop it up and dumb it down so little kids could see it, so they cared more about the project and hired good voice actors. For "Mew Mew Power," on the other hand(... ew...), they didn't care much about the quality since they were butchering it anyway, so 4Kids didn't really care about who they hired.

Well 4Kids destroys everything they touch, no anime or show in general is safe from them.

Ocean Studios Canada does a good job in my opinion. (They dubbed Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, Inuyasha, and others.)

yup, the dubbed sometimes feels not has anime feeling, but in some anime they already did good job, they pick dubber with voice just like real one.
