Best Anime to show to your (parents)

Well, i recently just showed my friends elfen lied (Not the hentai) And the thought it was pretty good. I showed my parents, well... -_- Has anyone tried this?

Well I recall showing Chobits, but yeah they didn't get it... Elfen Lied is pretty much a bloodbath you sure that was a good idea? |

Let them try TIGER AND BUNNY. It's one of the best anime of 2011 and would appeal to them I am sure.    |

Elfen Lied was probably not the best thing to show your parents...I would never consider showing it to mine. Now your parents probably have weird conceptions about anime and think all anime is similar to Elfen Lied and might not give it another chance :/ The only ones I can remember showing my parents were My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Grave of the Fireflies, and Spirited Away. My dad fell asleep during all these movies...but he falls asleep during most movies -o- My mom said she liked the first three (especially Kiki's Delivery Service), but No Face from Spirited Away freaked her out xD'

Well I was watching Elfen Lied when my parents came out to the living room and saw me watching it. They didn't mind it too much, just asked what was going on. Mind you, this was when I was... 10ish? Around that age. They have seen all the Hayao Miyazaki films, and they love them pretty much. My mom also tends to enjoy Inuyasha, she adores the cuteness factor of it. If you want to, why not show them Clannad? It'll be a great anime to show them. |

Ghibli movies. End of Story. Since it is aimed at a more general audience, you can't go wrong with it. If we are talking about series then World Masterpiece Theater shows are the next best thing. It's old, but a lot of people can relate to it. You have to think of what they want genre they want to watch. Try not to limit your suggestions to the more common or more popular shows. Then slowly go from there.  Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

Interesting topic, well, my mom has some kind of affinity with animé, though she has not the time to watch it with me or by herself, thanks to local tv, we have sit and enjoyed series like: Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, Mazinger Z, Digimon, Card Captor Sakura, Fullmetal Alchemist & Kaleido Star. She likes Miku's songs a lot and well, she has woken up interes for the Fate series, and also for Lyrical Nanoha, hope I can help her to get some more freetime to watch animé   |

@ Roxas- You wouldn't mind your parents watching Tiger & Bunny? Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite anime too, but it deals with some "heavier" themes (Of which I'm not sure if my parents would enjoy). And Blue Rose's costume... I know my parents wouldn't like it at all. XD Well, basically I agree with what everyone else here has said about Ghibli movies. Although they do have "heavier" themes, these themes teach a lesson and they're entertaining for just about everyone. And you can't go wrong with a lighthearted series like Cardcaptor Sakura, etc. Personally, out of all the anime I've seen and completed, I think the first one I would want to show my parents is Usagi Drop.  |

Studio Ghibli movies. I know that both my mum and especially my Grandma love watching them. |

I've always thought Clannad was a good anime to show parents or relatives etc. because of the family theme.   |

| I haven't urged my parents to watch anime, but since anime has been locally aired here for a long time, it's inevitable. My mom liked Fushigi Yuugi and animes like Princess Sarah, etc. My dad liked Lupin III, Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, among other shows(he watches whatevers on the tv). |

They got sick of earing me speak of animes, so anytime I want to show one to them, they don't want to. But if I had to suggest a good anime, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, as an example of the movie side of animation. On the anime serie side, if they can take it: Elfen Lied; if they need light stuff: Chobits, CCS or Allison to Lillia; if they want to watch something that has a good story: Outlaw Star. Aside from those, showing Ah! My Goddess is also a good idea.

My mum was intersted since she wanted to know why i fancy anime so much... We started off with Arjuna( which she loved , cause she is into Indian Mythology(we are indian :P ) Ano Hana (she cried..... i cried more while watching this ) Ghost Hound (she liked the out of body experiences which were part of the story Hanasaku Iroha ( she liked Ohana Matsumae) and after this god knows what all, i gave her my hdd , and told her to watch what she thinks is good... she is 58 and well what can i say she keeps an open mind :) and she has tons of free time..

Well, my father and I watch most everything together, and he enjoys it all (Shuffle, Clannad, Eva, etc), and even some things I don't like (Fullmetal Alchemist, School Rumble). My mother, however...I got her to watch some of KimiKiss once, and she fell asleep. I think she'd like Perfect Blue or Toki o Kakeru Shoujo, but she's too impatient. Oh well...
