This debate has been going on for years. Should we wait years for the remake or just leave it be? |

I'd kind of like to see it in HD Glory, though the developers have been saying it would be very hard/a lot of work to make that game under today's graphical standards. I never finished the original, so it would be a good excuse to go back and revisit xP |

I'll be very nice to see a remake of Final Fantasy VII,but at the same time I'm kinda worried that they'll change the gameplay too much, I just hope it'll still be the same with just AND I mean JUST updated graphics and sounds.

I'm in the same boat as Lucky. I would only support a remake if they updated the graphics and maybe added a few things in, but left the story and gameplay intact. The only reason I am completely opposed to a remake is because I know for sure that Square would retcon the story and dialogue to reflect all the things from Crisis Core to Dirge of Cerberus (and I don't mean new details and things, I mean the stupid stuff like Genesis) and they would change the battle system to some form of real time action. Not to mention the whole new wave of "FFVII is so overrated/is the worst in the series" comments and fanboy bickering that will inevitably sweep forums and video sites everywhere. So I would rather have them not touch it. They've already milked the game dry, so just let it rest in peace. |

I have the original on my PS3, might play it soon when I have a crap load of free time. I'd love to see a remake, it'd be pretty sweet. They totally could, too. Worried it might not be up to today's standard in graphics? Advent Children looked amazing. The people for FF, I think worry too much about what westerner's think. They should go back to their roots and just stick to what they believe is better, because it's silly to worry about competition from the Wii or 360, because we all know within a few short years the PS3 will overwhelmingly take over the gaming industry. ------- |

//@Jon://I wouldn't be so worried about them ruining your FFVII Remake by altering the gameplay and convoluting the story. Just look at the previous FF remakes for DS, GBA, and PSP (and I don't mean spinoffs, I mean the remakes). xP @//DA://I agree, the developers of FF shouldn't worry too much about us westerners: too many Japanese developers think they need to take it upon themselves to please us, when in truth there are many of us who fell in love with them for their much more Japanese-targeted games. And I agree with DA, the remake would totally be up to today's graphical standards (unsurprising looking at their current gen Final Fantasy). |

@Maiku - The thing is, they haven't really 'remade' any of the past FF's (other than 3 and 4 for the DS), they've just ported them and slightly improved stuff like coloring. We're talking about a complete graphical overhaul here, not just slapping it on to a new system. They would basically be starting from scratch and building an HD version of the game. I highly doubt that SE would ever sink money and time in to that without changing things around. |

imo leave it be, Im tired of the cloud fanboys who go "final fantasy 7 is the best eva lulz" when its the first final fantasy they ever played and only played -_-. I myself would want a ff8 remake. Only cut the weird story add in more SeeD missions. And make it so you could earn your SeeD rank through those missions instead of the tests they make you do.

//@Jon//Then look at 3 and 4 as a reference. They kept their systems intact, as well as their stories. No harm done :] I can't see SE changing that for 7. |

I say remake, ASLONG as they keep the orignal music, story and battle system and ONLY improve the graphics and thats it :) cause ff13 was a flop, once you realised how copy and paste the scenery is :)! and boring it got, they took away the magic from that game :( I heard that they said they would only remake ff7 if they could do it withen a year, but apperently, it would take 3/4times longer than ff13. :( so I doubt it will be done anytime soon :( if ever, :( |

I won't really mind a remake, but chances are SE would change it up. The Battle System would probably be one of the main things to change of course. |

@Maiku - They could very well keep it all the same, but then you would get people looking at it as outdated and so on. Considering the amount of time and money they say would supposedly have to go in to a remake like that, I would expect them to try and change things to appeal to the new FF fans. I don't like to use the DS games as a point of reference because of the difference in hardware and cost of making the game. Personally, I don't believe their talk about it taking so much time or money to do, I just think that they are waiting for a good occasion to break open one of the old cash cows. |

How about a new idea? Are those so hard to come by?

Knowing Squenix these days they will eventually decide to remake the game & probably make it multi-platform cause that is what they care about nowadays, a quick cash grab. Thinking about this just doesn't sit right with me. If it wasn't for FF7 Squenix wouldn't be what they are now, a well-known worldwide successful company. Remember before the game came out they were basically had a cult fanbase and was mainly recognized in Japan. Granted Squenix made a smart move from moving to CD base format & abandoning what Nintendo was using. When they do decide to remake it, they'll find a way to ruin what made the original so good. For that reason i wish they leave it as is....but apart of me would like to see it made cause what they can do with it using the 'right' format. I think something may be revealed once Final Fantasy vs.13 is complete & how well it does. Since that game is using a worldmap, towns & other things that were significant in past FF games. So we'll see what they will do.... |
Re: Final Fantasy VII : Remake or Leave it be.

It will and may happen eventually. Some had already been done so. But it won't likely be remade from the ground up. Just "enhanced" graphics or the like and not what most "fans" had been expecting since that incident regarding the tech demo. For one thing, it has been mentioned already that to remake FF7 in the current graphics would cost and would take as much as a new final fantasy title. I doubt they'll risk it. So don't get your hopes up that much. Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

sqaure enix... was so much better when they were squaresoft. I can only wish they will make an amazing ff game again. ff13... good features... graphics. lightning, looks like a female cloud... cut scenes. bads features... linear. no towns. places feel VERY copy and pasted :( no levels up, crystarium system isnt that great. story, very predictable. shops are awful. atb system loses apeal quickly. summons blow! normal attacks do way more damage.... music, is great at first, then gets annoying. they really need to make ff7, with ONLY improving the graphics, same gameplay and story and music please, maybe remastered though :) I guess if you haven't had the time to enjoy other ff games, or other decent rpg.jrpg games then u will really like ff13. my opinion its just okay, but I need to hurry and finish it so I can finish resonance of fate :D |
