Has anyone else had a chance to play this? What do you think of it? I'm only on chapter 2 at the moment because I'm trying to finish another game before going back to it. I've enjoyed it so far, but the 'Hero Gauge' part of the battle system bugs me. There's only one person on my team who can use items and usually what happens is an enemy will swarm one character and break my final Hero Gauge causing everyone to go in to critical condition. When you're in Condition Critical you're basically helpless and it seems to me like it's a guaranteed game over. |

Thought about picking it up, it's pretty cheap, saw it online, it seemed popular, but meh. Really I'm not getting any other games until like, Fall, until my anticipated game comes out. I'd be screwed over and pissed if it was actually Fall of next year, lol. ------- |

Yeah the 'Hero Gauge' of the battle system makes the pretty challenging. Once you are in 'critical' chances are you are going to die, however if you move around & try to focus on a single enemy using your machinegun to lower the defences. Than your handgun guys can slowly lower the enemies hp. Also be sure to pick up shards of your gauge when they are dispersed when the enemy hits you. It's difficult but possible to win a battle when you are in critical. I'm also in chapter 2 doing the power station but right now i'm grinding to raise the levels of my guns for each character. At around level 15 for all 3 characters. Another thing is money is tough to come by, other than completing missions the other way is to fight & fight & fight for items to sell. The costumes don't do anything other than making your characters look nice to look at. All in all it one of the most difficult Rpgs i've played but it is a very good game & so far i'm liking it alot. The voice acting is good, funny at times...though the game doesn't look as good as other games it is still nice in HD. |

I've only managed to recover from Critical once, because the enemy had already been weakened by my machine gun user. The reason I don't like the Hero Gauge is because it's tied to your Hero moves, so when you use one, it knocks off an entire point from the gauge. I find that your characters move so damn slow that the only thing you can really do is use the Hero actions to be able to get a decent range of attack. It wouldn't be a problem if you had a limited time to move before attacking like Valkyria Chronicles, but you don't, a timer constantly decreases and doesn't stop for anything, even attacks. That, coupled with the fact that the distance between you and the enemy slows down your attack charging, as well as the enemies ability to interrupt your attack charge just really get on my nerves. There have been so many times where I have moved a character, began to charge an attack only to get shot and have my attack canceled, then having my turn end because the timer depleted. @Izumo-san - Level 15? My god, I'm in the same place as you and my characters are only at Level 7 for their weapons. Money hasn't been too much of a problem for me. I had built up a lot of some kind of part and I just proceeded to buy another part from the shop, make a Compact Scope Beta (I think it was) and sell it off. I have about 23,000 right now and since I already have all the best parts I can buy at the moment, I'm just focusing on saving up enough money for that 100,000 Handgun. |

Yeah i like using the hero moves alot, mostly to set up the tri-attacks. When you get to the more difficult battles like the bosses which are like hi-leveled compared to your party it can be game over..often. I barely use normal attacks cause just like what you experienced for the most part you are going to be interrupted by an enemy attack. I only use it when i'm trying to survive a critical. Another thing i found hard to do is doing those 'Bonus Hits' where you juggle an enemy in the air. The gauge moves so fast & you have less than a second to input the command to hit that yellow area of the gauge. Doing 'Smack down' attacks are easy but this Bonus thing can be frustrating. Yeah i have most of my guns customized to the highest it can get with scope betas/alphas, long barrels, bullet clips, & hand grips. I'm about 20,000 rubies away from the 100,000 gun. That's what alot of grinding can do for you :) Killing that robot at the first level of the power station over & over again not only helps raises your gun level, but it will drop silver/gold chips that can be sold for 50/250 respectively. Also the dogs sometimes accompany it & they drop 'meat' which can also be sold for a fairly good amount. So far my grinding has yield these results. - Zephyr has a lvl.7 handgun, lvl.7 machinegun, lvl.1 thrown stuff - Leanne has a lvl.8 handgun, lvl.6 machinegun, lvl.1 thrown stuff - (forget his name) has a lvl.7 handgun, lvl.6 machingun, lvl.2 thrown stuff. |

@Izumo-san - In terms of gun customization I'm at the same place. I have every possible thing equipped to my guns at the moment (Leanne has 3 scopes attached to her gun, one on top of the other, no clue how that is supposed to work). I don't even bother with 'Bonus Hits', I've only managed to hit 1 outside of the training arena, they are far too hard since you only get a second or two to press the button and the arrow spins way too fast. It's honestly not worth aiming for, I mostly stick to Smackdown attacks like you. It's easier to hit them up in to the air and jump over them to slam them back down. |

I've been looking to get this game but its still $60 everywhere. Just a couple questions for you guys. How is the musical score? Also, how linear is the game play?

@Stoney - The music is alright. I'm not that far in to the game, but the battle themes and such so far have been pretty good. Haven't really encountered any full musical moments yet and I haven't heard anything yet that I would consider memorable. The gameplay is about as linear as a typical J-RPG. You don't get any choices in things, but there is lots of room to explore dungeons and world maps (since you can find items and activate stat boosting terminals on the world map and dungeons contain multiple different 'rooms' to look for items in). You're given a good amount of control over your characters in terms of weapons. |

I am also not that far from the start, Chapter 3 I think, I am stuck at the quest to look for a good engineer. I think that game is great, though its story seems like mini-stories to give more depth in the main three characters and their interactions - not that I am complaining, I quite like it. The gameplay is unique and quite hard to master and it is quite difficult to level up as your levels increase. I also find troublesome that you cannot get new weapons in the earlier chapters, especially throwing explosives you should be able to buy it but you can only get it by clearing hexes or trading arena coins for it. Here is a question, did any of you encounter characters that runs when you try to talk with them? If you do, do you know what they are for? |

@Night - Are you talking about the little Gremlins that appear throughout Basel? They serve pretty much no purpose. You can 'speak' to them, at which point they run off and they drop a bit of money which you can pick up (it's only like 3 or 4 rubies, which is nothing). If you go to the open air place next to Basel during the night there are a few of them gathered together, but again, they don't serve a purpose. |
