Summary: (courtesy of wikipedia) The story’s protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall (approximately 10 feet), with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence. Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake will be able to walk again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña). Over time, Jake integrates himself into the Na'vi clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world Cast: Sam Worthington as Jake Sully Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine Michelle Rodriguez as Trudy Chacon Giovanni Ribisi as SecFor administrator Parker Selfridge Joel David Moore as Norm Spellman CCH Pounder as Mo'at, the Na'vi queen Stephen Lang as SecFor's Colonel Miles Quaritch Dileep Rao as Dr. Max Patel Matt Gerald as SecFor's Corporal Lyle Wainfleet *************************************************************** This is one of the most anticipated movies in years. Due out this December 18th the new movie from acclaimed director/writer James Cameron (Titanic fame) has created something that is not only revolutionary in both technology & concept. The 3D technology created by Cameron & his crew is supposed to change the way films are made today. Already interested in the new camera system is Steven Spielberg, George Lucas & Michael Bay to name a few. Who else is excited in seeing if this will be a blockbuster that many have predicted or be one of the most colossal failures of all time. My opinion since this IS James Cameron his track record makes me think this will be a success. |

The movie kinda reminds me of another James Cameron movie, Aliens. When Cameron made Aliens he used the Vietnam War as one of his influences. A large more technologically advanced army against an indegenious race on their home turf. No matter how advanced they are they get slaughtered, if you ever seen Aliens before. This is almost the same deal...military force versus natives on their home planet. James Cameron has always made good to great movies that are more than just flash but there is a deep engrossing story that complements it. He's considered not only one of the best directors of our time but also one of the best in story-telling. |

So this is where he's been all these years. Hm. I can't wait to see this movie... I watched about 20 minutes of it at Comic-con... 3-D Graphics were great... storyline looks like it'll be good, too. |

People who love good movies that are original & are passionate about movies that may change the way we see films today, this film has to be successful. WHY?! This video that i just found on youtube really says it all. Please if you are tired of the crap that are in the theatres nowadays & longed for films similar to the original Matrix, original Star Wars trilogy, Lord of the Rings....films that change the way we see movies, watch the video below. Everything that the reviewer is saying is so very true. Nowadays Hollywood is milking franchises & rehashing films uneccessarily. Seriously do we really need another Saw movie? Sure there are times that remakes have been extremely well crafted (Star Trek for example) cause the story was 'original'...that word is for the past few years seem to be lacking in Hollywood. Sure Transformers 2 was a fun movie to watch but if you look at it deeply it really is a piece of garbage...it's stupid (emphasize on STUPID!) fun! You want to be entertained without thinking than watch it....however if you want engrossing storytelling...leave that at home. I really do hope that this film is a big box office success. I have faith in James Cameron cause he has never let me down. 3 of his films are in my top 10 (Aliens @1, Terminator 2 @4, Titanic @ 7). And if you look closely at 1:39 of the video you'll see a hint of what film he may do next. There are many rumors that that character will be his next project, and if anyone can do a faithful GREAT anime adaptation....my money is on James Cameron. However if Avatar is a failure we may never see him make that film which will be a shame. So on December 18 which is not that far off from now....watch this film & behold the essence of movie magic & brilliant storytelling!!!! |

Finally got the chance to see the movie in the theatres a few days ago & just wanna post my thoughts on the film. I saw it in regular digital 3D, wanna see it in IMAX but didn't wanna go that far to see it....about 30min drive to nearest theatre. First things first, those who decide to see it MUST see it in 3D!!!! You'll do yourself a diservice if you watch it on 2D. Other movies have tried to handle the 3D in this manner with some success...SpyKids comes to mind. Avatar improves on it immensley. It feels like total immersion....that you are actually 'Right There' in the movie, hard to describe, you have to see it for yourself. There has been alot of hype surrounding the visuals of the film & all that hype is justified. Avatar is probably the prettiest movie you'll ever see for a long time. The world of Pandora comes to life on screen & cause of James Cameron's attention to detail it is spectacular! The Na'vi (blue guys) look totatlly authentic & you never can tell if they are CG at all. The facial expressions are handled so well it was like if they were real actors. OK...the story is pretty simple...it IS Dances with Wolves/Pocahontos...but there is enough stuff there that Cameron adds things to it that make it seperate. The path it takes is pretty linear & you kinda know what will happen before they happen but all that doesn't distract you from the overall experience. Which brings me to that word specifically..."EXPERIENCE"! This movie is just that an experience. You are taken on an adventure throughout the almost 3 hours, which just fly by so quickly. There are moments in the film that are so incredible & heartbreaking that will maybe choke you up a little. There are also times in the film that make you question how we live as human beings. Seriously you'll be saying to yourself "We Suck!!". The last 40mins or so is the final EPIC battle that show the likes of Michael Bay & other wannabe action directors how it is done. NOBODY does action sequences the way James Cameron does them! It will literally blow you away. *spoiler* If you wanna know how a mech can fight with a knife you'll see it here! Best mech fight EVER!!! It may not be James Cameron's best film (in my eyes ALIENS & T2 are still tops) but it ranks up there as a worthy addition to his films. I urge everyone to see it at least once!! in 3D a must. You won't be dissapointed!!!! |
