Hmm, my favorites!? There's too many! I'd say these are my top five, probably in this order, but it's hard to decide that. For a fact, "MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM" is my favorite all-time from them, one of the greatest songs ever. The PV is also pretty "colorful" in terms of showing the world and the children from different nations. Plus HQ is very detailed. "Winter Fall" is one of their best clicked 13 singles (1), but it's one of the best songs from the '90s, I love it. One of their best more relaxing and fluent lyrical songs, and the background vocals are lovely. During lives tetsu goes pickless (I guess sometimes?), but the song is very beautifully composed and the intro is awesome. There's nothing bad about this song at all, no flaws, nothing. I sing this song all the time, it's addicting. "Vivid Colors" is another classic visual song that I love, I pretty much sing this in my sleep. Honestly I think it's one of their top hits definitely that wasn't included in the first best clicked singles album. Really one of their first major hits really, really early in their career in the '90s. This really set their style up and was definitely a fan favorite during their huge live performances. They performed it at their 15th L'Anniversary, and I hope they perform it at their 20th, too. "flower" NEEDS to be performed by them more, but it might be too old these days? Another classic from their visual days, but this showed more on hyde's skills during lives as well as his vocals. The bass and guitars are great in this song, they really sync up well with each other. Again, I know this left to right, can sing this in my sleep and I every part of it, haha. Girls love the harmonica and I do, too, and a lucky fan gets to keep it during their lives cause he tosses it in the crowd. One of their big hits without a nice guitar solo from ken, but I love the "like flower" part near the end. ROCKs. "SHINE", to me, is one of their top ten hits, I said before it was their #2 following #1 "MY HEART DRAWS A DREAM". The two songs are composed similarly, so you'd find the styles of the songs very similar to one another. Again, another beautiful song that touches the heart, and the PV is one of my favorites that I've ever seen with any band! If you haven't seen the video, go check it out, it's very abstract and you'll love the vivid colors, and the effects are AWESOME! Some of my other favorites that I love (no order at all):
Performed lovely in Paris and hyde's voice was dead on, powerful, and perfect. A heart warming song that touches the soul, truly an emmotional song. "Caress of Venus", arguably one of their favorites to perform live, they perform it live with their large concerts. They performed it in Paris and their Are You Ready? 2007 (ã¾ãŸãƒãƒ¼ãƒˆã«ç«ã‚’ã¤ã‘ã‚ï¼ in OKINAWA) Tour. One of their really more up-tempo, upbeat songs and literally gets the crowd jumping off their feet. "Blurry Eyes" was one of my first favorites of them when I dug into their older visual stuff. Another best clicked single, but another great song and the lyrics are another I'm fondly familiar of. "Killing Me" is another pretty jumpy song, and they have fun with this song during live performances. I particularly like the drums in this song, especially the part where they'll bang on the tom heads really fast with one hand (each). If you listen to the song you might know cause it's pretty noticeable. This album had some good hits for sure. "C'Est La Vie" is a really old song, going all the way back with "Vivid Colors". A pretty nice song, not really a regular song performed by them now, but occasionally a joy to listen to. "snow drop", definitely a Christmas song just because of the "snow". Strangely the drums in this song repeat throughout the entire song, but are very, very low in sound. You can tell it's from their older days, late '90s. I'm pretty sure this was a hit when Sakura left and yukihiro came. ;P This song will remain one of my favorites all-time, and another song I'm familiar with the lyrics with. "DAYBREAK'S BELL" is a really great composed song, and it's a favorite among others because of that Gundam series. But it was good on KISS, and it was performed very well during their concert in Paris. The drumming style is similar to DRINK IT DOWN, or should I say that in reverse since it came after KISS I think? DID (lol, not) was another favorite of mines too, but DAYBREAK'S BELL is simply put, epic. Regardless of fans really liking it more for who the band is, it's still a friggin' good song! "New World" was composed by yukihiro and a lot of the songs he's composed with Laruku went #1. hyde's lyrics in this song are VERY powerful, especially the chorus which is hard to hit every time. With yukihiro's composing the song, his drums I love in this song, and tetsu's bass is especially notable as well. "READY, STEADY GO!!" is one of my all-time favorite songs, more or less anime-song wise, because it's really the first song that I truly loved relating to anime, but it deserves kudos because it's the first song and starting point to why I love Laruku. This song really made it happen, in fact it was the first song that got me into them and from there it was love. It's funny during lives, before the song plays hyde says "are you f#cking ready!?", the crowd goes nuts, but it was never confirmed (fan-wise) if he actually knew what it meant, lol. XD! Their most underappreciated-underrated song is definitely "LOST HEAVEN", well, one of them anyways, top three for sure. I've only seen it performed twice, one was in America but it wasn't really good since hyde's voice was hurt, and another one was in ther LIVE ASIA TOUR (Shanghai), but other than that, nothing really. I love this song, it's the best ED for the Hagane no Renkinjutsushi movie, and the song's great. My favorite P'UNK~EN~CIEL songs are their 2007 remakes of "FEELING FINE" and "I WISH". I knew about "FEELING FINE 2007" cause I heard it when I instantly got the "MY HEART DRAWS A SONG" single, but it was only fairly recent that I got into "I WISH 2007" when I watched the Theater of Kiss concert like two months ago? tetsu really killed it with I WISH 2007, and it was an instant hit for me. I love the background vocals and the guitars near the end. Now of course there's a lot of others like "the fourth avenue cafe", "Honey", "Link", "SEVENTH HEAVEN" is totally awesome, etc. And the large majority of these songs and their major hits went #1 so they were totally good. Truly one of the most iconic J-Rock bands ever, I think everybody knows about them but they still deserve more love! I can't even fathom the day they eventually will hand in the towel, but I will and have always support this band. My favorite band, I know a lot about each members, their origin, I wish I could see them in concert or at least buy band t-shirts, but for some reason Japan doesn't have an open store(s) where you can purchase band related t-shirts. whoa, that's DA for you, our no.1 Laruku fan ^^b for me, my most favorite are definitely "Kaze ni Kienaide" and "Vivid Colors" those two were the first J-rock songs I heard, the ones who got me hooked to Laruku, and later opened my eyes to the world of J-rock It was like, 6-7 years ago, when I was still in junior high... Really brings back good memories... *sob* Some of my other favorites are: "Winter Fall" - As DA had stated above, this song is amazingly relaxing. I'm very weak for this kind of feelgood songs that use a lot of strings. "Bravery" - This song is strangely calming yet powerful at the same time. It's not too Ballad-ish, but it's still a very good Power Ballad. "Snow Drop" - The refrain is addicting, I love those "small yet noticeable" keyboard sounds in the refrain, very winter-like. "Lies and Truth" - The intro (and also refrain, "Kimi ga mieenakuteee~~~") is like saying, "Hey check this out, this song is friggin catchy". And again, lots of strings, gotta love those. "Niji" - The lyrics is downright awesome, especially on "Sora yori takaaaku~~~" afterward. I think Hyde wrote it in memory of Sakura who left the band. I still remember the lyrics after so many years, it stuck in my head since junior high :D "Honey" - the only Laruku song that I can sing quite well in karaokes, I phail on the others lololz Overall, I prefer their songs before the SMILE era (comeback from hiatus) than their newer works. Their newer works (after hiatus) that I really really like are "Jiyuu he no Shoutai", "Nexus 4", and "Link". The rest are just 'good' for me.

They're near their 20th L'Anniversary, but why isn't there a tribute album for them!? Maybe only a few certain bands can even cover their vast styles of rock. Possibly. :( ------- |

Yeah they've been on hiatus for about a year or more now, and they're scheduled to return 2011 (their 20th L'Anniversary - biggest concert ever). Everyone seems to be doing fine with their solo projects though, and VAMPS is kicking butt. I know they're a fan favorite, but they deserve a tribute album, even Luna Sea had one, and they can definitely cover some songs, maybe, if they were still together I think? ------- |
