Favorite Game Openings

Apologies if this has been done before.

What is everyone's favorite video game openings? The top 5 or top 10 lists are preferred, but no sweat if you can't rate them in order.

Note: No promotional footage or trailers. Either an opening cut-scene before the menu or one that plays through at the opening. Linking to the video on Youtube or something is fine, but don't embed anything, kind of bloats the page.

I'll have mine up tomorrow, I have to decide what exact order to put my favs in. ^^;

Alright, think I've got it.

1. Final Fantasy VII (Nothing could beat this in my list. It wasn't high energy or anything but the zoom shot with the title flash gives me goosebumps every time I see it.)
2. Digital Devil Saga 2 (This is more energetic and flowing, love this one.)
3. Chrono Trigger (You cannot not like this.)
4. Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (Just an awesome dance number)
5. Star Ocean: First Departure (If there's one thing Square Enix can do well, it's openings.
6. Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana
7. Persona 3 (The original, not the FES opening, although that one was good too.)
8. Wild Arms 3 (The song is the main reason I like this so much.)
9. Way of the Samurai 2

No number 10 at the moment. lol

My list!!

1 - Xenogears : Yasunori Mitsuda's music drives this opening sequence..my fave game...my fave all-time!

2 - Final Fantasy IV intro (DS ver.) : EPIC!!! simply EPIC! Still IMHO the BEST FF game ever!

3 - Chrono Cross : Again Yasunori Mitsuda's music is WIN!

4 - Final Fantasy VIII : Music is epic & yes Squenix does great CGI sequences.

5 - Wild Arms Alter ode F : 'Into the Wilderness' music hits home with me :D

6 - Parasite Eve : Just plain cool.

7 - Zone of Enders 2 : ADA is hot!! plus the music Rocks!! Good animation too. They need to make a PS3 version!!!

8 - Final Fantasy X : Pumpin music & your usual Squenix caibre CGI.

9 - Final Fantasy VII : Tech demo ver. :D , Calming, surreal, simple yet effective.

10 - Killzone 2 : Can't wait to play this game!!! Brian Cox as Visari is so....WOW!

my list...i don't have a good taste though...i only choose because of songs actually XD and supposedly i have more favs but lol nvm...not in order btw, and random favs...yesh random! though it doesn't look like it LOL

and some already mentioned by izumo and jon so there XD

Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny: i just love Haruka Shimotsuki's voice XD

Eiyuu Densetsu Sora no Kiseki SC: i just love the violin at the beginning and the song is awesome!

Eiyuu Densetsu: Sora no Kiseki The 3rd: pretty much my type of music :D

Star Ocean The Second Evolution: i dunno which to choose...the 1st or 2nd OP...but the song is the same so it doesn't matter XD

Suikoden III: watching it always gives me a...i dunno feeling. nostalgic i suppose :"D

Tales of The Abyss: i'm a fan of BUMP OF CHICKEN so i find this awesome! i so prefer this than the vocal-less one

Tales of Vesperia: my fav xbox360 rpg game's OP! XD

Tales of Destiny: i just love the song XD

Tales of Symphonia Knight of Ratatosk: this is the first time i heard misono..pretty good i guess XD

Wild Arms The 4th Detonator: same as Star ocean 2...dunno which to choose...but nevertheless i like the feeling when i hear this

OH MY GOODNESS, Izumo.. you're officially my hero now xD I Didn't expect to meet another Xenogears Fan here.. It's basically the best game ever and it has Fantastic Musics.. Gotta love Small two pieces <3

ok getting out of topic here...

My list

1. Xenogears (It is Xenogears.. The Animation is OMFG, despite the fact it's a PSone game)

2. Wild Arms 2nd Ignition (The Music is simply marvelous! It brings back memories... One of the few games that I Will always remember)

3. Melty Blood (Yes, Call me a Type Moon Geek xD But I really am crazy over Type Moon Works... I Dunno,.. but the music just.. make me feel the mood of it...)

4. Suikoden 2 Opening Ah,, good old days.. one of my fond memory of playing PSone..

5. Clannad Visual Novel Opening Well, *Shrugs* Visual novel is counted as a game right?

6. Little Busters! Well.. for this one xD I haven't even played the game yet.. but it got stucked in my head after listening to a MAD.. so yeah lol

7. Final Fantasy VII (Well, no need to comment on this one xD)

I haven't decided for the rest.. I'll continue it later XD

I loved Xenogears too. The opening cut scene was pretty cool looking, but it isn't one that sticks in my mind, mainly because it's just a scene.

Suikoden 3 was close, I liked that opening but the chanting wasn't exactly a favorite part of mine. ^^;

Valkyria Chronicles was also one I was considering, for however much I loved it the music was just a bit to slow and calming.

Really? In alot of threads about best game/best game music, etc...on the top of my list is always Xenogears. To me it is the pinnacle that will never be surpassed...i never had so much fun & enjoyed a game so much as i did with Xenogears. They definitely need to remake this game for PS3 or PSP!!!

I would've added openings for visual novels like CLANNAD & others but i assume Jon-san was asking for console games. So that is what i came up with though it was an extremely difficult list to come up with.

I left out ALOT of games that could've been on the list like Lunar, Chrono Trigger (was hard to leave off the list), the other Wild Arm's games, Metal Gear Solid, Disgaea, Shadow of the Colossus, Xenosaga series, & *ahem* Dead or Alive Xtreme Volleyball *ahem* to name a few.

The ones on the list are basically the ones that i remember the most.

@Izumo Well, cause I'm not much of a gamer myself xD The last console I Owned was PSone.. So that explains why my Varieties are pretty limited XD but yeah, IMHO Xenogears is the best game in PSone <3 Totally love the gameplay and the storyline.. Really awesome...

You can add any game, even those visual novel ones. Even if all you are doing is making dialogue choices that still counts as playing a game. Hell, you could put in Rock, Paper, Scissors if it was on a game system and had a cool opening. lol

Alright, taking visual novels in account i guess i can add these to the list, although i'll keep them seperate.

1 - CLANNAD or AIR either one is great

2 - ef ~a tale of the two~ - Song 'Yuukyo no Tsubasa' & Makoto Shinkai! although the intro for the 2nd game is also spectacular

3 - Eien no Aselia ~Spirit of Eternity Sword~ - If the singer sounds familiar, yup it is Yumi Kawamura singer for the Persona series.

4 - SNOW ~Plus Edition~ - Song 'SNOW' by Yumi Matsuzawa is simple amazing!

5 - Tomoyo After ~It's a Wonderful Life~ - Lia + 'Light Colors' + Tomoyo = AWESOME!!!

Honorable mentions : Little Busters!, Really? Really!, Memories Off 2nd, Chaos;HEad, Ryukoko to name a few...i have many more :P

uhh.. I don't play too many game.. just add only what I thing it's good, then.

1.) Genso Suikogaiden 1 (PS) : First impressed with anime opening and its song, current.
2.) FFIV (PS) : Cool Edgar~~ ><~
3.) Genso Suikoden 3 : Tell about the story and the characters good!
4.) Genso Suikoden 5 : not good CG but touched with the BGM, Wind of Phantom. It's always make me crawl every time hearing this BGM, I always think back of its story.
