Excuse me if this thread existed before, but I didn't see it. Have any of you played Fallout 3? If so, what's your opinion on the game. |

Hmm, I didn't like it much. It IS Oblivion, and it FEELS like Oblivion, so much it ruined it for me. The combat feels clunky, just as Oblivion's did. I also found myself getting tired wandering around the wasteland, so much that I'd quicksave and quit to take a nap really. I don't really have much to say (haven't played for more than 5 hours either), it just isen't what I expected it to be. I need to check the game forum more. |

Saw trailers and related videos of this. Was gonna get this or COD 5 for the PC yesterday since I couldn't find L4D, until I did so I bought that instead, but it looks intense. ------- |

I got extremely bored of it rather quickly and it's just like Kazuma said, it IS Oblivion except with guns and lacking magic. It just isn't good. I find it's been over hyped and it's getting far more credit than it deserves. I have a lot of problems with it, for instance. . . -Wandering the wasteland is fun at first, finding new places and exploring them, meeting random people in towns and helping them out when you are supposed to be doing something more important, but it loses it's appeal after you come to realize a few things, such as nature hating your guts and proceeding to skin you alive unless you have the perk to counter it. -None of your actions for the townspeople you meet will mean a thing in the grand scheme. If you investigate a murder of two parents and the disappearance of their son, take the job from the towns 'Sheriff' to go find him and complete the quest, it doesn't do anything. All you get is a 'Thanks man, here's 100 caps which can't buy you crap all.' and that's it. Nothing really changes when you do something, maybe one character more will hang around town and tell you that you did a good job by saving them. For this reason I usually ended up completing the quests in a town and then proceeding to kill every last living creature within 100 feet of me, simply to have a little fun. Quests. Are. BORING. They just involve you running from one place to another to find the person you are looking for, talk to them, fight them or not fight them and then return to get reward. -Character models are the ugly, stiff and lifeless. Enough said. Okay, maybe that's a little unfair, the monsters are kind of cool, but the humans are just plain bad, mainly because you get the most face time with them talking and Bathesda simply cannot animate those characters very well when talking. -Enemies aren't really dangerous, they just have better aim than you. The majority of the enemies I found very easy to beat (probably because I had awesome weapons due to the fact I stole everything from everyone and killed to get what I wanted). Even the Super Mutant Behemoths or Masters which I've heard my friends say are difficult were a joke. My usual method of execution was to simply dash up to them and point blank them in the face using VATS and a combat shotgun or high powered weapon. I didn't take much damage since I had the mutation perk where my crippled limbs would heal if I had advanced radiation poisoning (which I always had seeing as how the negatives to having it were pretty mild and the benefit was more attractive) as well as my damage resistance. The only trouble I ran into is when the faster human enemies came at me with sheer numbers. -Story sucks, Hard. It's short, it's rather basic and ending is simply a pure slap in the face. Basically you are told one of the following during the end sequence of the game by the narrator, depending on whether you were good or bad in the game, and depending on whether you sent the girl in to give up her life in the end, went in yourself or blew up the facility either by accident or otherwise. Ending 1) "The guy did some good stuff and didn't become evil, he gave up his life so the world could be flowers and rainbows." Ending 2) "The guy did some bad stuff and became evil, he didn't have the balls to give up his life for humanity so the girl did it instead, and made the world flowers and rainbows." Ending 3) "The guy did some good stuff and didn't become evil, but he didn't want to mess up his hair so he sent the girl into the chamber instead and she died to make the world flowers and rainbows." Ending 4) "The guy did some bad stuff and became evil, he blew up the whole facility and ruined the Earths one chance at being restored. What a douche." and so on. That's how every ending turns out, simply using about 20 words and rearranging them to make a new ending. It's dull and it cheats you out of everything you worked for. Not to mention the massive holes in the ending. The room is filled with radiation, yet your radiation suit doesn't protect you from it for some unexplained reason. You can get a companion in the game who is resistant to radiation and isn't affected by it, but you can't send him into the chamber because he says some crap about it being your fate to do so. You can get a Robot to work for you, you also can't send it in for an unexplained reason. It just doesn't make sense. It's like the writers didn't get enough paint to finish the room and when they realized they just said "Screw it", and stuck a curio cabinet over the blank spot hoping no-one would notice it. -Despite what some people say, the VATS system is good. Why? Well that's because it compensates for the horrible FPS aiming. This wasn't a problem with Oblivion too much since when you swung your sword you swept a pretty wide area and it wasn't hard to hit someone (I guess if you played as an archer it was bad) but when you put guns in Oblivion, weapons which require accuracy, having the enemies jerk and jitter around at high speeds is not a good thing. It's hard to hit someone when they can change direction at a seconds notice and move like mosquito's. That's all I've got on it right now, but I know it isn't all I have to say on it. Just all I can think of for the time being. |

Well I haven't played the first two Fallout games or Oblivion so I can't comment on how Fallout 3 compares to those. But I can say I enjoyed it well enough. True the endings are little more than rearrangements. But the game runs fairly well. Though on the PC version there are some odd bugs around. But on the PC Fallout 3 can be modded so I don't really care. I can say it's not the greatest game in the universe. But I can also say it's not a bad game. |
