Do you wish racism would just stop?

| everyday i always hear people make fun of other races and it makes me sick. I wish it could just stop b/c its wrong for people to still hate each other. 3 years ago at my school, my friend got into a fight with someone b/c that person called him the n word and it hurts me to see that people are still racists. So, do you think racism should stop? |

Racism isn't something I think will ever go away. But I do believe the amount of racism and the depth of racism will decrease over time. Where I live in America, things are so much better for all races than, say, 50 years ago. And in another 50 years ( maybe even sooner) racism will be even less prevalent than it is today. Even though there is still events like the Jena 6 and Don Imus, those type of things don't occur nearly as often as they did only 4 decades ago! So although most of us wish it would stop entirely, the prospect of it slowly vanishing is what gives me hope.  |

it's "what". technically, there's always gonna be a stupid racist who thinks asians all have small penises or that mexicans are lazy, and ppl calling black ppl the n word -_-

Well, yeah obviously. It'd be nice if people would keep racist comments and actions to themselves. Though, it's hard to keep people from having their own personal biases against others. If something terrible was done to you by a certain person, it's understandable that you may forever have a bias against people who look like that person, but keep an open mind, not everyone is like the bias you created stemming from that one person who did wrong to you. Unbased racism is what gets to me the most (people who are racist for no particular reason) >_<

Nice thought, but it'll never happen. As long as there different races, there'll be races. As long there are different sexes, sexism. And so on.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Everyday, I hear racist comments are views, and I really don't think that it will stop. I mean come on, if even Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek, thought that racism would still be around in the future, what hope does humanity have!? What I am referring to is Captain Kirk's racial hatred of Klingons. In one of the movies, he even said that he hates Klingons. Then you have the ST: DS9 episode where Sisko was a writer in the 1940s (I think), that was dealing with racism. So if Star Trek, a dream of a peaceful, almost-Utopia, like future still has racism, then I don't think it will ever stop... :(

I don't think it's possible to really stop racism, but I do believe that it can be minimized. It's so stupid of some people to think that they are superior to others just because of their race.  |

i agree.. but i really get pissed off.. even teachers do it.. the white kids were talking in class and he says to my frn n i, shut up or ill put u outside in the sun with ur sweet n sour sauce.. we werent even talking.. AND EVEN IF WE WERE there is no need to mention 'sweet and sour sauce..' n we were like.... wtf?.. =___=; |

YEP!!!! of course i wish racism would just go dig up a hole and bury itself for the rest of etenity and a day.... but do i think it'll ever stop.. hell no!! it's like part of life now..live with it..u have to.. i myself costantly feel it all around me..it's like a second atmosphere i'm breathing on earth. but it just depends on which country u live in... some countries have it harder than others do... and boy am i glad to be in australia!!! it's a bit better over here...hmmmm.. alot better!!! and i totally agree *juvixty*!!!! the teachers do it too...man do some of them bully me and my friends... especially my maths teacher... but i show her!! she can't really tell me off when i come top of the class once in a while!!! sigh..^^ |

I will take the opposing position I would hate to see racism die. To stop racism would mean the limiting of our scope of ideas as in humanities scope. The limiting of ideas is a horrible idea that will ultimately cause humanity not to be as great as it could be. Where does the stoppage of ideas stop? Such thinking is naive and does us no good. This is the same argument against censoring the media and such. I love our large scope of ideas and wanting to limit this scope is racist toward ideas that are bad. I don't want these ideas are bad either, but these ideas specifically are not doing any good for humanity; racism though has the potential to do some good for humanity by reminding us of some ideas, that might not even be true, that would help us analyze our own selves. The appearance of more ideas whether the specific aspects of these ideas are bad or good, is overall after a long period of time beneficial for humanity. Saying this I know the specific aspects of racism are bad but we cannot advance ourselves without ideas and therefore racism should not die. |

yeah . . . how i wish it would stop. too bad that in our world, there are standards. we all grew up from an environment with a keen eye for perfection. the media also adds up to this, with television showcasing the "real beauty" and what "must be" based on our environment, plus printed advertisements of newspapers and magazines containing pictures of the same content. the key word here is "difference," which is impossibly inevitable. but we are all human beings, and differences in races shouldn't be a cause of conflicts. we all grew up from different places with different cultures. it has no connection whatsoever with someone being a "person." if only people will learn the meaning of the word respect . . . |
