*cough* I just wanna to make an odd topic.. People with great studying and good achievement in studying with great grade will be stated as 'smart' people.. other people with higher IQ and great potential intelligence will be stated as 'smart' or 'genius',well.. So,I think I misunderstood..@__@ What do you think? Do you agree that 'smart' or 'genius' statement to someone can be proved by great studying,or by Intelligence Quotient? pheww..:p |

studying and grade often saw as apparent factors for smart statement... but the world already prove that creativity, innovation, leadership, courage as the factor of success... Bill Gate kick out from MIT but then he come back by request of MIT to gave a speech. is Bill Gate smart of course every one agree he is... but back then is he smart... well MIT kicked him out... achievement is a factor of smart in work life... grade is the factor in school life... that is how I see it... for IQ, SQ, EQ, etc well all of that are factors but not apparent factor

I think: knowledge is something that could be gained/enhanced through studying/exploring/inquiring. IQ is intelligence/natural ability for comprehension. wisdom is the application of these two for practicality. "smart" for me is too general a term. :| I think it depends on the circumstances. when referring to grades, someone could just be really studious. in general, it's not about the grade but on the learning. or so says my physics teacher. x]    m y . Umu, I agree with Lockey, I think social intelligence might be the most important factor, For me, someone is smart if he can apply his knowledge to solve problems. Knowledge isn't something to be taugh, you must acquire it yourself!!! Genius for me is someone who can act on his own without rely the others. Well, I can't say someone with high grade and IQ is Genius. That's what I learned. One of my friend with low IQ can beat someone with higher IQ in high school. X(  |

humm.. okay,so someone will be stated as smart person when they can prove their smartness in social environment..with their success story and great achievement and yeah,any Quotient like IQ,SQ,EQ and bla bla aren't apparent factor But,can we state someone as a 'smart' person not from great achievement in studying,but from their ability to solve any problems in their own life or their social life greatly? so,whats the real definition of 'smart'? |

We all know these days people can considered anyone a genius if this genius did something--- even if it's so ridiculous, some would appreciate that genius. I guess being 'smart' is not about acquiring lots of knowledge and improve your diligence in academics--- being smart is where a person knows what to do by using his/her skills (dexterity, creativity, oral, aural etc.) in order to achieve something. You don't need a big brain with infinite knowledge to be smart... or even being a genius. You have to use your brain to make use of the knowlegde you seem to find them very important to your work and your purpose in life. IQ tests are addictive, but I just don't like doing one at the same time. Last time I got IQ 114, yeah... in the end, what does it stand for, apart from I'm really smart and you're capable of working together in certain environments? It means nothing in the end. I learn myself that I'm smart enough to run my life and regulating the environment around me, without all these 'measurable' quizzes. Believe me, the Einstein stereotype is no longer there. We nowadays even considered those blow-up mentos creators, funny cat pics makers are geniuses. |

well nowadays people make fun of smart people in my point of view for someone to being cosidred a smart or genius person only reflects how mature u are and how well u can be a leader to those u have trust and faith in u and also how well u can help someone in need |

You can learn things, or you can figure them out. If you are better at learning, you can learn what other people figured out, but you cannot see through it. If you can think well, you may figure out what you haven't learned, but that is a waste. If you can do both the same time, then you should apply to a universtiy. Or what... |

A person states that someone is 'smart' because that is what the person's first thought about that someone. Smart can be categorized into many clusters... but the most common is the "academically smart". "Smart" is a label used when someone is of higher degree than the other, it may be in any form (subjects, topics, issues and such). These smart people tends to understand something in wide-range more than what the others are capable of. But you could call someone "smart" at a certain thing while that person would call you "smart" w/ your own thing. But really, the only person I consider as smart are those: Jack of all trades, master of none(or maybe something) XD

I think it's becoz they -know more and better than the others do, not only in study, but also in another things -can solve difficult things -and also knows what to do at the right time and place... That's juz my opinion...   |

i think people only use a few % of their brain but still we have the same amount of brain but up to the person who use it whether you use more than 20% of nothing happen  |

In my opinion, SMART is just an excuse for those not doing their best in anything and everything. Smart people, irrelevant to the matter of "great studying and good achievement in studying with great grades / higher IQ and great potential intelligence" are smart because they did their best under any circumstances + they have 100% confidence on themselves that they CAN do it. |

my opinion is that a smart person who is highly intelligent but doesn't like it being pointed out and is willing to help others a "smart" person on the other hand is a person who is higly intelligent but is a total jerk about it or is always complaining about how they never have any time(that damn bish Taylor*twitches*) or throws a fit when they get like an A-/B+ or whatever I'm smart but I have lower grades than most smart people because 1.I have terrible stage fright so even the though of giving speeches makes me very nervous and most likely not to do a paper and 2.I'm sick of all my "smart" freinds complaining about every little thing(after Xamount of years it's very annoying) |

"smart" is an opinion a standard an individual or group of people set a dumb person can be smart to others and a smart can be can be dumb to others People state someone smart because it's their personal belief someone proved them that they are as for me i can't say if i'm smart or not but ill definately not say i'm dumb Grades is a precent on how well u do a certain subject you can be smart and choose not to do well slackers basically |

You state someone smart because of your personally view, you've seen something in that person which you yourself don't have. Even at times smart people get called dumb just because they failed to have something like yours. But hey, being called smart is a compliment something you won't get much from everyone. You'll be suprised that you'll get called dumb more often than smart just because of small mistake you have yet to learn about. As for me smart people are those with knowledge that surpassed mine, and even for hundred years I doubt that I'll be to get the same knowledge as them. Studying, and getting good grades are part of a person smartness even though that person doesn't know anything to begin with. He/she's smart to know a way how to get those using his/her own strategy. I admit that I'm dumb myself, yet I get called smart sometimes for reason I can't think of other than maybe that's really their view of me from the outside because they can't see the true me. |

Miko is certainly right about it's someones view of you or your view of others. To add on to that, I think there are two kinds of 'smarts' in the world, which Im sure most of us know. There's "Book smarts" where your an ace at schooling and everyhting that brings with it, and then there's "Street Smarts" where you smart and knowledgable in other areas besides math or science (etc.) ( Like working, how to make something, how to teach, how to talk to others, etc, etc; There are endless examples ) |
