any star ocean fans here? i liked 2 and 3 the best so far and they have different story lines like final fantasy so we wont be getting the non reality/reality confusement from 3. But its multi platforming onto the xbox wat the heck?? i wanted it only for playstation. i guess sony cant get those exclusive rights anymore huh? wat happened to the good old days where Playstation was number one and xbox was number zero?

They don't have any word yet on whether they will release it for the PS3, or if so, when.

Personally, I don't care. I despise Squre-Enix now, so nothing they do matters anymore to me.

Guess you'll just have to wait a little bit.

I thought it was pretty interesting, but I just never had time to play any of them.
I do know one of them for the PS2 took up just about a whole 8MB memory card.

trailer says ps3

when ps was 1 and xbox was zero? that was when people think ps1 makes great games (due to fact of final fantasy 7)

square enix is getting a bit greedy eversince (squaresoft) failed on FF:Spirits within movie (financially)...

I would prefer to looks for the novel adaption now.. actually.. I wasn't pleased with ff12 (kinda felt repetitive in battles...)

When Sony PS was 1 and xbox was 0 was because ps was here longer... xbox wasn't well known until... sometime ago.. (as a part of common knowledge)
Final Fantasy 7 is what made this factor... heck if xbox was already out by the 1996's FF7 would've been on it lolx

most companies are getting greedier and greedier these days =_=

Well according to Gamespot the Xbox360 will be the first to get the new Star Ocean game called "Star Ocean:The last hope". It is scheduled for a 2009 release. Another enix game i also Xbox360 exclusive as well.

Represenatives from Squenix has stated that Star Ocean 4 will be ONLY on Xbox360 but they haven't ruled out plans that a PS3 version will be made at a later time.

Personally i think this is a stab in the back to the system that made the series so popular. I personally disagree that it should be exclusive to a single system & this makes me more upset at the direction Squenix is heading. I was planning to get a PS3 when more RPGs are coming for the system but with this news one of my fave series will be unavailable...it sucks @$$!!!! I swear this is all a cash grab...microsoft dished out more dough & got what they wanted. An RPG big enough to save them from floundering over in Japan where the PS3 & Wii are kicking it's butt.

They better have a PS3 version or i'm seriously going to lose faith in Squenix. If another Valkyrie Profile is ONLY going to be on Xbox360 i'm going to go postal!!!!!

I agree with Jon-san that i'm starting to despise Squenix....what happened to the good old days....i wish Hironbu Sakaguchi was back running things.....though that will NEVER happen....*sigh* I liked Enix's side of the company but this news has me upset....

Square and Enix were fine companies alone, joining the two together has made them deteriate.

SE now has this 'let's divide up everything' attitude. They basically divide up all the games their making (which is like 10 or so, WAY too many projects to be working on at the same time) to each console. So I guess SO4 was just one of those games that got thrown to Micro$oft.

I agree with Izumo on his point and I think he stated it very well. It certainly is a stab in the back to the company that pretty much made them what they are.

Since this is the business world however, a PS3 version of SO4 is very likely as Square likes to make as much money as possible by any means.

There are no 'exclusive' titles anymore, only 'port pending' titles.

Yeah there's been alot of porting over games to other systems lately...i read that a new Valkyrie Profile is heading to DS as well as another version of Disgaea...just like FF there's like a plethora of those. Nippon Icchi is following in Squenix shoes.

That other Xbox360 exclusive that Squenix is doing is from the makers of Valkyrie called i think Infinite Discovery or something like that. I swear what the heck is Sony doing to prevent these titles from jumping ship? Not a whole lot from the looks of things. The PS3 is gonna be stuck with FF13 which hopefully will NOT SUCK like FF12. There are like so many RPGs heading over to 360 (new Tales game, another Mistwalker game, SO4 to name a few) while the main reason i'm waiting for a PS3 is for more RPGs like it's predeccesors had a bundle of. The reason i'm a sony fan boy in the first place is for the systems variety of RPGs.

I'm disappointed in Sony to have let these titles go without much resistance....though i know it is the game companies decision to go this route.

Read this quote from a Squenix head & SO4 producer:

"Game producer Yoshinori Yamagishi stated tri-Ace chose the Xbox 360 because when development started, the Xbox 360 hardware was the only one that was ready to begin. The PlayStation 3 was not fully available at that period of time to start development"

That is a pile of bullcrap!!!

It's a shame that it's for XBOX 360 only, i wonder why...
I must say that it's really a nice game :)

Quoting SE, they went with a 360 exclusive because the game was simply going to sell better on the 360. To date every title they've released between the two platforms has done phenomenally better on the 360 then the PS3, and I'm talking worldwide sales, not any one region like some people might like to narrow things down to.

SE is a company, not a person, so the term "greedy" doesn't really work unless you have zero understanding of basic economics. In that, a company exists only for one purpose, to make money. The company employs thousands of people, over 21 programming shops and multiple output groups, people have a tiny worldview, for example, Jonathan earlier in this thread stated 10 games is too much for a company to be working on. Bullshit, it's too much for a small company with a limited workforce to be working on, SE has no such issue. They've split work into multiple, fully functional shops which work like their own company, fully staffed and able to produce games better then they were able to years ago. (And FYI, the golden days people refer to? Both companies were running a minimum of 3 shops each and making several games at the same time, it's actually more focused today then it was back then.)

One of the main issues as to why there is no PS3 release is simply due to the PS3's hardware. Superior as some might claim, it's notoriously hard to program for and to actually get it's toted performance for as well. In an interview, Yamagishi cited that Xbox 360 was the first seventh generation console to come out, and its "extremely well-made hardware", from a developer's standpoint, as the reasons why he chose it to develop Star Ocean: The Last Hope on. From a developer's standpoint, in other words, he probably tried a conversion for the PS3, had issues like so many developers do, and just plain decided against wasting the time and energy.
