I think u need to close it, or you already open it with other program but u don't know. try to ctrl+alt+del then make sure everything is close first.

then try to right click on it and delete it, or just put it in recycle bin, or go to control panel where it say delete program.

Ohai. I HAZ RETURN AS OF 18-APR-2020!

Make sure that no other program is using it, most of the time programs have supports, if it still continues restart your computer and close all programs again and then try uninstalling it. If that dosnt work I dunno lol.

Man, I experienced that thing before, exactly the same situation as Dragon Negro, but the different file. I also tried to use unlocker files, but nothing happened, so my last resort is to reformat the hard disk. >.>;

Unlocker is useless in that problem, it will not work in that situation.

For Duo:

You just did it again, DUO. If you suggest some software, better know the disadvantage of it better giving it to others. And test it also in your system. I read about UNLOCKER, but the disadvantage is it's 30% unreliable in current Windows NT OS (NT4.0, 2000, XP, and VISTA). It is risky to use it also because it force some needed programs to STOP while your system is running.

For Dragon Negro:

It is not only the fault of duo, it also your responsibility about the after-effect of the "UNLOCKER" in your system. Better also to see the pros and cons of that software and be ready for the threats in using that software before doing an action.

Try to use System Restore in your problem due to UNLOCKER.

But with regards to the problem about the file. The next option you must do is to trace if the file was being used by another program, so go to the Task Manager by pressing Control+Alt+Delete in your keyboard.

If it doesn't work, try to Scan your computer againts virus. Maybe it is being used by some virus in your system.

Question: Does that file that you're saying irritates you or doing some malicious acts in your PC?

If that file is doing no harm in your PC, better ignore it. But if it gives some errors or even slows your PC performance, do the steps that I just said. But if those steps are useless, better reformat the drive where the file is located.

Just boot up in safe mode and delete it. You should be able to their.
And while in safe mode, try checking if it's under the add/remove programs in control panel.

And if it's still trying to run then kill the process that's using it, and then use something like .....oh heck I forgot the name of the program (Ruy maybe you know what I mean - it's the one with the dynamite stick icon that can delete a file even while it's running and stop the process from running again...)

I'll try to look it up on my external...I've got it somewhere. In any case, try the steps before and if they don't work then post here and I'll probably have found the program's name by then.

For h4x0r dud3:

An Application that has a Dynamite Stick icon that can delete a file even while it's running and stop the process from running again?

Sorry! I don't know about that software eigther, even in my Windows XP Application Programs have no icons like that. But if you gonna use it with this problem, I'm sure it will not help because Dragon Negro already use "Unlocker" and giving him "Errors for not having Debug Privilege" after using it to the 4GB file that he wanted to delete.

Well in this case it may or may not have worked since I don't know what unlocker does, but it was a program designed to override some of the Windows config failsafes so that you could stop a program from running and delete it's source file even if it was. It has warnings all over it, but to people that don't fully understand how to use it I can't picture that option ending well...

Regardless, is the 4GB file actually running anything and under what directory is it located?

If you can give us that information I think Ruy and I can tell you whether it's even directly related to the downloaded file or not, and also whether it should be deleted or not.

The file is in the download folder of the public files...
IS NOT A PROGRAM... is just a file...
and I tried to delet it in the "safe mode"

it didn't work T_T

PS: I have Windows Vista by the way...
and what it sucks the most is that it doesn't have a DOS mode...
that would solve anything...
my old PC had Windows 98...
So if something wanted to give problems...
DOS would solved them =P

There's DOS in Vista. Just go to the start menu and in the white search bar with the magnifying glass on the end type command, it'll bring up the DOS command prompt in a window. It won't solve your problem though.

Since you're in vista, when you try to delete it you say it gives you a debug permission error of some sort?

Try going into User Accounts on the Control Panel and disabling something called "User Account Control". The UAC is the annoying thing that causes those little messages that say "such and such program wants to run, do you want to allow it?" each and every time. Depending on it may allow you to delete the file you're talking about.

So the UAC was not allowing for debug permissions....that makes sense I guess.

Personally I find the User Account Control to be the most annoying feature in all of vista. Even though in theory it makes your computer more secure, unless a team of people REALLY ARE out to get you then you shouldn't need to monitor every single process....

A little excessive on Microsoft's part but at least it has good intentions.

To anyone else using vista: I'd just disable the UAC altogether and not worry about it. It's a lot more of a pain than it is a help.
