Most politically incorrect anime or manga
|
OK, what are the most politically correct anime and mangas out there in your opinion? I'll start off with the (un-edited) G-Gundam. It tends to "stereotype" the other nationalities. Like how they dress up the Mexican Gundam the Tequila Gundam (I believe the Toro Gundam in the edited version), and I guess depending on your point of view the use of the words "God" and "Devil" by American standards is also not politically correct. I personally think Chibodee Crocket, the American, is portrayed as rowdy, arrogant, and selfish. I forgot the Russian's name and this is going to sound stupid if you don't follow Russian martial arts movies like Undisputed 2, but the Russian is portrayed as a prisoner. I don't know how to word this but there are some Russian fighters in real life like Alexander Emalenenko that were in prison and a lot of Russian fighters in other movies I saw revolved around being prison-bred. I know it doesn't make sense and you won't know what I'm talking about if you pretty much follow my personal interests. Another example of political incorrectness in manga is a very obscure title by a relatively well known manga-ka, Masami Kurumada's (of Saint Seiya fame) boxing manga, Ring ni Kakero. Germans are portrayed as Nazis, Italians as mobsters, Americans as a motley crew of a jive talking black guy (played by Koyasu Takehito in the anime), a death row inmate, a cross dresser, a Hell Angel's New York branch leader, and a KKK leader. Then the Japanese portray themselves as some sort of superior nationality. |

I can't really think of any at the moment, but it's mostly kiddy anime that does that. What I hate is in anime for younger kids and sometimes older kids where they basically represent a nationality by clothes. American - Usually wearing clothing with the American flag pattern on it, t-shirt or things like that. Canadian - Always wearing winter gear like heavy coat and stuff. Mexican - Always wearing sombrero's and a cape like garment with the colorful pattern. Russian - Always wearing the Russian style winter hat and long coats with gloves. These are the kind of things that get to me when watching these shows. Their basically saying to the kids 'Hey, this is what all Russians look and act like, and all Mexicans where sombreros.' |

as long as they don't start drawing a dude in a filipino flag, then i won't get really annoyed. but i agree that it IS annoying that sterotyping of cartoons based on what they are wearing. at times, they make the canadaians the bad guys against the americans i can't remember...) in football than the japanese or vice-versa (confuzzling). anyhow, back on track with the topic. to have a politically correct anime? i can't think of one, but is it really possible to have one when in every kind of program, whether anime or not, there is at least two things that you can spot that are not politically correct? -michiyo- beware. the QueeN oF SiGGieS is here. kill that mr. scrolly or your siggy goes BAI BAI. it's solidarity month! let's be united! +[-- GeNDouNiaNS: i am half-back! visit my blog by clicking on the siggie banner! updated: 12.07.07 --]+

@Michi- Yeah, I've seen that too, everyone who isn't American in those kids shows are bad guys or at least the antagonists of the show. I haven't really seen a show that doesn't have at least some kind of politically incorrect part. Ghost in the Shell (Although not a lot of people from other countries were seen) still portrayed things pretty well. |
