| anyone hear about ddos attack, it crimpled some forum on the internet, including one of my fave forum, what is this?, how it attacks?, and how gendou can survive? |

DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service attack. This differs from a DoS attack in that the attack comes form many machines, not just one. Successful DDoS attacks are perpetrated by armies of computers, referred to as "zombies" because they mindlessly attack the victim computer. There are three ways I know of to acquire an army of zombies: 1. gain unauthorized access to computers via a virus or brute force 2. use open proxies as a zombie army 3. buy an army of someone who used method 1 Sometimes, DDoS attacks can cripple a website for hours or days. This is accomplished by making more requests than the server can handle, so that nobody is able to be served. I have had my fair share of malicious attacks, which usually do nothing to my server. This is because I have security programs to identify and stop such attacks. More often than purposeful attacks, people inadvertently trigger these security measures by using a download accelerator (which can look like a DoS attempt) or web crawler/archiver (which also look like a DoS attempt).

i think use of download accelerator makes this happen, because on other forum i joined, i can use download accelerator (it is anime direct download forum), the admin ever said that he also use security program to handle this attack, but couple days after ... the site was closed because this attack. ps: this is second time i place my thread on wrong section, gomen admin/mod. |
