FF6 is by far the best, especially for a big fighting game fan like me; I'm extremely proficient in it and know all the insane "100,000+ damage combos (yes, they do exist; I had no life in High School besides FF/anime and I found them) and infinite-damage/boss loops. They have them in 7 too, and I think there the only ones that have them. I'll post mine on the internet sometime, and if you want to know a few (I won't reveal all until I make the combo-video) you can drop me a line i'll e-mail them to you. However, most only work on the supernes version cuz they took them out of the PS1 version.

^ FF6 is the best INDEED.
I really don't know why people overlook this gem-of-a-game.
Maybe because they're more interested on graphics instead of gameplay.

FF Tactics Advance was a joke. It was a kiddified, watered-down version of the first one (PS1).
Though I must admit, the LAWS System was innovative.

I think FF games are defined by their story and scenes more than anything,and in terms of depth, originality, and overall emotion this is where FF6 just DOMINATES- Celes's attempt at suicide, "interspecies" love between Maddonna and Maduin, an Opera scene (where you control the singing!), Gau's father abandoning his son, Shadow abandoning his daughter Relm, the coin toss for a kingdom, and Gau's Dad's Alzheimers seperating him from reuniting him with his son are just a few examples of how deep and unique the story was. How could it not be my favorite? Beat those, "Aeris's death"!

Yeah FF8 was stiff, but Squall was such a bad MOFO, even with a name like that. Oh and another reason for FF6's dominance- over 40 NPCs(NOT just mindless pawns w/o names)die in the stortyline. That was like 75% of the overall cast! What an insane risk for any RPG or even an anime! I dare someone to have me name them all cuz I would do it. BTW dude, Gendou himself said in a forum that FF6 is the best! You know it's the truth now!

I think the best few are FFVI, FFVII, and FFX.

Six had the best storyline out of the earlier FFs and the best character development, though they did throw in a few random characters towards the end, like the Yeti. It was also one of the more sombre FFs, with the melancholy music and all.

FFVII was just fun all the way, especially all the minigames and the sidequests. The whole atmosphere of the game was just...beyond words.

FFX has awesome graphics and just the best levelling system ever! I loved the whole sphere grid idea! The atmosphere of that one was quite nice as well, what with the catchy music and colourful backgrounds. The characters were also interesting and had amusing fashion. I didn't even bother to try the sequel after my friend told me they had brought back the job or dress system from FF5 or something.

I suppose FFXIII deserves an honorary mention. It was a great game, but I never had a chance to fully experience its grandeur, since I sort of stopped halfway, then my friend gave me his saved game and I decided to just beat Ultimecia. It did take me a few tries, since she seemed to have around five forms.
