I nearly bought the game today. Lightning is, ugh, so hot. She almost made me buy her.
I do wanna get some poster of her though, even if I'll never play the game or not. She's very attractive, sorry. ;P

I rented the game last night & tried it at least but my thoughts still stands for this game. It's just doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy game to me personally. Maybe cause i'm old school.

I do admit the game looks absolutely beautiful especially if you own a HD TV which makes it POP that much more so than SD TV. Like i said before the music is alright but still early in the game there isn't much to do other than go from point A to point B....the talk about how linear the game is, is very much magnified in the early parts of the game.

The voice acting is decent & there are some worthwhile performances. The battle system does get some getting use to & they are exiting. However they can drag on for some time which reminds me of FF VIII to some degree.

Again i just feel this game could've been so much more if it kept the same ideals that made past FF games so enjoyable. I just felt that Squenix was trying too hard to gain western audiences that they alienated some hardcore fans of the series.

I watched my friend play it for a while, I'm pretty much under the same opinion as Izumo-san.

Without towns there is nothing to look forward to in my opinion. You get through a dungeon, you start in another dungeon, and so on, and so on. Getting to the end of a dungeon in regular RPG's usually means you can relax a bit in a town, look around, talk to some of the NPC's (or not, if you don't want to), save and have a good location to return to when you go out to explore locations. Towns make RPG's feel a bit more. . . populated, human, while FFXIII would leave me under the impression that I'm just a rat in a maze, running through the tunnels until I reach the end with nothing but more tunnels to look at.

The Paradigm Shift thing doesn't exactly impress me either, it's actually a reason I don't want to bother playing the game. FFXIII's system reminds me of FFVIII's Junction system in that. The characters can essentially do the same thing as every other character, so they feel like blank slates.

I haven't heard any customer opinion on it yet. No-one who has come back in to the store since launch day has mentioned anything about it.

As for me, after seeing it in action (live, instead of through trailers and Youtube videos), I highly doubt I'll play this. Maybe if I clear out my entire backlog and my friend still has it, but that's not likely to happen since new games come out all the time.

How long does it take to get to a free world exploration in this game?! I've already been playing for like..15 hours? It's still in dungeon mode! I'm getting tired of this...

@Ken - As me and Izumo-san have been complaining about, there is no free world exploration. You are always in dungeon mode from the start of the game until the end.

@ Jon-san & Kenji-san

From what i've heard there is an open world called Grand Pulse that is basically a giant field where you see in screenshots with the giant enemies. I read it is about 30hrs in to the game & this is where you do all those monster hunting quests. In the storyline you are there for a brief time before it is closed off again...opening again near the end of the game.

So yeah even if it is a giant open area in the storyline it is still a linear part of the overall game.

Sssssigh. Okay, I'll bite.

"characters can essentially do the same thing as every other character, so they feel like blank slates."

Fortunately, this is not the case. While each character can use some of the same classes (ex. Ravager or Sentinal), they get different skills and in different orders, and different stat boosts (again in different orders). For example, Sazh as a synergist can boost allies' speed, magic, and attack, while Hope, as a synergist, can boost defense and resistance.

I finally got my hands on it.

I'm a little disappointed with the lack of towns, and the only shops you have are the ones at the save point.

The classes, commanders, medics etc are good and you can customize it. I just obtained Shiva for Snow and Odin for Lightning so my progress is going pretty well

so far i got to change my party up so basically everyone's back together

most of my characters are at lvl 3 on their classes, grinding hardbody and upgrading their weapons in which their weak but the abilities are nice as hell lol

Re: Final Fantasy XIII

Ok my beliefs that this is NOT a true Final Fantasy game has been answered. Not hating on the game cause i believe people who say it is good but like i said before it just doens't cater to my needs as a Final Fantasy game.

Anyways back on topic. I listened to the entire FF 13 OST. First off it is a pretty decent soundtrack not the best or near the top but very servicable. That tune they use for regular battles "Blinded by Light" is a darn good theme. The music is not the problem with FF 13.

What i'm trying to get at is that every Final Fantasy game has this theme music either at the beginning or part of the ending. The Final Fantasy Main Theme is a staple of all Final Fantasy games & to have it not included in the latest game is a crime unto itself. How can a game be called Final Fantasy without this beautiful piece of music....HOW!?

It is SOOOOOO hard to compete with 7's theme music though, am I right? Insanely hard, probably one of the best OSTs in like, gaming history.

@Maiku - "Fortunately, this is not the case. While each character can use some of the same classes (ex. For example, Sazh as a synergist can boost allies' speed, magic, and attack, while Hope, as a synergist, can boost defense and resistance."

I consider that nit-picking really. Characters can essentially fill any role at any time, which was my point. I have no problem with being able to set up a character to fill a certain role, but being able to flip between them just seems to make the characters matter less in my eyes (the only exception being that I would never want the whiny one on the team ever).

Another reason I'm not exactly convinced to even rent the game is from all the people saying that "It gets good around 20 hours in". Judging by the fact that I wasn't impressed with the first hour or two of gameplay when I was watching it, I am be no means up for sitting through 20 hours just to get the supposed 'good' part. So far, my thoughts on the game are pretty well summed up by Spoony in his recent v log.

I honestly don't see what is to love about this game other than the visuals. Combined with the fact that there are plenty of other good RPG's out there these days, I don't see myself ever giving this the time of day.

That's true about the "It gets good around 20 hours in" the story doesn't really start to heat up until Chapter 8.

Classes : You'll eventually get to teach everybody each class but it'll take time and any class you don't have it'll cost you 4000-6000 CP to move each space but you should have atleast 70000 CP later in game anyways.

I watched the international trailer a little while ago and noticed that the mouths were dubbed for English speaking. Does anyone know if this was this done after-the-fact for the English version of the game, or did Enix just anticipate higher international sales and cater to the international audience? I'm just curious, is all.
