Its starting to seem more dramatic to me what with the lost memories and all. It would be so fun to have a 40 lb angel. You could easily give it piggy back rides or toss it into the air. Or use it as a hang glider. |

About 20, I think. Kilograms are about half as big as pounds. Hee, I'd love to have an angel, regardless of its weight ^_^ |

Now here's chapter III... Thanks Bladesman for your help! ^_^ Kurotaki Mamoru Sex: male Age: 16 Eyes: dark red Hair: black, neck length Personality: life is a game, and you must win at all costs; also very quiet Takahashi Etsu Sex: female Age: 21 Eyes: green Hair: black, pulled back with multiple "antenna" hanging over her face, hangs down to her waist Personality: sort of a witch, though she's actually nice underneath, and takes no BS whatsoever "Well, I was wondering if..." "If...? You don't need to be shy, I can help~~!" "Could you... teach me how to be nice?" Chapter III: Soul-seer "What!? You, be nice!? What's with the sudden interest, Mr. I-don't-care I'm-a-quiet-depressionist? "...I'd rather not say. You'll know eventually, whether I tell you or not." It seemed as if Yukio had some big secret he wasn't going to share with anyone, not until he absolutely had to say it. "Why're you being so secretive now? Did you nearly die last night or something?" "No I didn't, thank you very much. Why do you wanna know so bad?" "Well, you're never gonna tell me, so I guess I might as well teach you. This is gonna be the hardest thing I've ever done!" she added with a wink. She seemed somewhat happier than she usually did. Yukio sighed. "I'm not totally negative, you dimwit. Also, did you see anything... odd last night?" "I need to know more than that if I'm gonna know what you're talking about, Yukio-senpai." "...Did you see an angel last night?" Akina burst out laughing at the top of her lungs, smacking Yukio's shoulder. "An-- An angel?" she managed to get out between laughs. "Yeah, I saw one. It had a nice talk with the tooth fairy. They're coming for tea later today~!" Yukio suddenly looked somewhat irritated and angry. "I'm serious!" he yelled, only to have Akina fall to the floor in a cackling craze. "You don't believe me?" Yukio reached into his pocket and pulled out a long, crumpled up white feather, about 15 inches long. When Akina saw it, she stopped laughing and went silent. She reached out and grabbed it, slowly stroking it's sides with her thumb and forefinger. "This is a... large feather. I don't think any birds around here are this size..." "You believe me now?" "I'm not gonna believe you saw an angel with just a big feather," Akina said doubtfully with another wink. Yukio simply shrugged at Akina's comment. "I didn't just see it, it almost fell on me and then I carried it to the hospital." After saying that, he realized he just said the wrong thing. "Uh-huh. You need some more proof, because that feather's not enough." "Well, it'll be out of the hospital eventually. After that, she might come to school, too." "'She?' You found yourself an imaginary little girlfriend, eh?" Akina jested. "If you don't wanna believe me, you don't have to. Just don't cry when she's out of the hospital." "She's in the hospital right? Let's go see her after school, then." "I don't think we can... Right now they're doing some tests and such to see if they can get her to wake up." Half-way through his sentence, the bell tolled. Yukio silently turned around to leave. "Hey wait, Yukio-senpai! Your first lesson in being nice is to always help someone that needs it, and do it cheerfully!" Yukio simply waved her off and left for his class. It seemed like everyone around was happily talking about events that happened recently, trying to cheer up the grey halls. Yukio wanted to talk about stuff, too, but he knew no one would believe his angel he found. It's not like it went well with Akina, and she trusted him more than anyone else in the whole school. "Keep your eyes sharp," he told himself. "Anyone could need help... I've gotten too much help from others, now I need to help someone in return. I've taken too much from life... I need to give back." Heading through more grey halls, seeing more happy people talking about stuff, no one needing any help... He was getting angry again. Everyone was too happy. What's wrong with some sadness in life? If you're always happy, then you'll miss the more important stuff in life because you're in such bliss. Everyone here was talking about either normal things or things that made them happy. It was almost as if they were trying to add bright colors to a grey place. Once in class, he waited with his chin in hand and his elbow on the table, looking out the barred window. "This place is like a prison," he thought. "No color, barred windows, going where you're told when you're told... It's not good publicity." His thoughts were interrupted when Shiramori Hoshi, his teacher for this class, introduced a new student. It was a transfer student with a large backpack. "This is Kurotaki Mamoru. He's a transfer student, so treat him especially nicely. Now, who's willing to show him around school after class?" Yukio knew he had to raise his hand. This was his opportunity to help, and he had to take it. "I'll do it," he said, after which Mamoru looked at him with his dark red eyes. At that moment, when they're eyes met, Yukio felt suddenly scared and weak, like he just got smashed into the ground by a giant. "Thank you," Mamoru quietly said. Hoshi pointed to an empty chair two seats behind Yukio and to the right, and said that his seat was there. Mamoru looked ahead, focusing directly on no one, and slowly walked to his chair. When Yukio first saw him, he thought he was a girl for a second. His black hair kept a small distance away from his head, went down right past his ears to slightly above his neck, and continued like so all the way around his head until it reached his face. There was something feminine about everything he did, all the way down to his voice, but yet for some reason everyone knew he was male. When he sat down, he sat upright and paid close attention to the teacher, but he was obviously not interested in what he was teaching. There was most certainly something creepy about him, like the rumors he heard yesterday said, but he didn't know what is was, whether it was his pale skin, dark eyes, or blank personality. Then Yukio remembered with dread that he had to show him around school afterwards. * * * * * * * * Takahashi Etsu looked over her class briefly, making sure no seats were empty, then began teaching her class. Akina was in the front row on the very far right, giving her among the most attention by her teacher and also giving a quick exit after class was over. She was wondering how many nice things Yukio-senpai had done since this morning before class, and also thought about the feather he gave her. She could barely imagine Yukio-senpai carrying anything to a hospital, whether it be a dog or a person, but the little bit she could see in her mind's eye brought her joy and she couldn't help but smile. She wanted nothing more than to help him right now before his depression drove him to suicide, and that would bring herself to possibly committing suicide. Imagining life without him was painful, but every time she tried to get close to him he pushed her away. It was more devastating than anything she had ever felt, but she managed to stay cheerful somehow, keeping happiness afloat in the most torrential floods of sadness. The only reasons why Akina agreed to help Yukio be happy and nice was that he'd stay alive, and she also hoped that he'd stop pushing her away. Why did he even push people away in the first place? It didn't benefit him, yet he still did it. It hurt more each time she thought about it... "Hey, Izumitaki!" Etsu said with command. "Quit drifting off and pay attention! You wanna clean out the erasers later?" "Sorry ma'am, I'll pay more attention," said Akina with the regret of having been threatened. "It won't happen again." "Ah, that's good. Now continuing with the lesson, atoms work in conjunction with..." Immediately resuming her thoughts while keeping her face toward the blackboard, she realized a way to possibly help Yukio get happy. She felt stupid for not realizing it before, but at least she thought of it. * * * * * * * * Class was over. Yukio would rather stay in class until school was over than show Mamoru around class, but he had already agreed. Waiting briefly outside the door, Mamoru walked up to him and stopped, waiting for direction. "Okay, follow me Kurotaki-san. This place is easy to learn, so I hopefully won't have to do this again." Yukio began walking down the hall, pointing out each room as he walked by it. "This place is a large square, with the younger kids' classes toward the main gate. Surrounding the halls are all of the classrooms, storage rooms, restrooms, and whatever other rooms we have. The playground's in the middle of it all. There's also the roof, basically large squares in the corners that hang over the playground area a little. If you want to go up there, you can take those stairs to your left. As you can see, whoever designed this place has a fetish for squares." "I see," Mamoru replied in his quiet and feminine voice. "So if you keep on walking down this hall and go down whatever hall's connected to this one, you'll end up back here. If you need a map, you can get one from just about any classroom. Need to know anything else?" "I know all I need." "Okay then, I'll be leaving now. See ya later." While walking towards one of the entrances to the playground, he saw Akina walking down the hall. But she wasn't happy, which surprised him. She was looking down at the ground, no smile, and slowly walking away from Yukio whom she didn't even notice. "Help everyone who needs help eh...? Dang, Akina, I wish you didn't need help right now..." He ran up towards her and grabbed her shoulder. She jumped and spun around with a terrified look on her face, then smiled and relaxed. "Yukio-senpai! Don't scare me like that!" "I came after you because you were looking sad. What's up?" She got a confused expression on her face and tilted her head to her right. "I was sad? When?" "A little bit ago, right before I touched your shoulder." That only made her more confused. "What? I wasn't sad a little bit ago," she said, replacing her confused look with a smile. "You were trying to do lesson #1, weren't you Yukio-senpai?" "Yeah, so what? Oh, and that weird transfer student is in my class." "Packybacky? Oh, you're lucky, I wanted to show him around..." "...Packybacky? What kind of a nickname is that?" "The one I gave him~~!" "And the worst one I've ever heard," Yukio thought. "I don't know if you'd want to show him around after he looks at you. He's... creepy." "Yeah, that's what everyone says. Can I see him? Can I can I can I?" "You'll see him eventually, don't worry. I think you'll change your attitude once you see him, though." "Eh, whatever you say... Yukio-senpai, before I forget... do you... wanna eat lunch with me outside?" she said nervously. "Why? You can eat lunch by yourself, can't you?" "Would you eat lunch with me if I said I needed help eating it?" she said even more nervously, though obviously joking. Yukio sighed. It looked as if he was gonna say no, but then remembered something that obligated him to help those that need help. "Oh, fine, I guess..." Just by that, Akina beamed with her eyes glowing bright. "O-okay! So let's eat over there then, where it's empty!" She pointed to an area in the shade of one of the overhead balconies. It was just a simple grassy area, nothing special about it at all. A breeze was blowing overhead, but not too much of it made it down inside the playground. Yukio sat down and calmly began eating his lunch. "Have you ever wondered why the heck they gave us a playground when we're this old? Some of us are old enough to drive, for crying out loud. We don't need a playground, nobody's even using the equipment. They're just sitting in the grass, eating lunch like we are." "But no one says we can't use it, so why don't we? Simple things like slides can be fun, especially if you use them in odd ways. Don't you agree?" Yukio replied with his usual silence. "Aww, you don't really think that do you?" More silence. "But you can have a water balloon fight! Doesn't that sound fun?" This time, Yukio moved his mouth like he was going to say something, but decided on silence. "We should do that... on the last day of school before summer vacation, have a big water fight. Everyone can bring their own big guns, but the school would supply some cheap ones if you don't own any. I'd get some 9' party balloons, that'd be a blast." Yukio quietly resumed his lunch while Akina was off in dreamland, thinking about all sorts of fun things to do in this simple playground. He took advantage of this quiet time to think peacefully. "All there is here is just a big rock, a couple randomly placed plastic walls, and a slide. A SLIDE, of all things. Why not put something usable in here, like at least a soccer ball or at least a football? We could actually use those, but not a slide..." "Hello AH-KEE-NAH, Watanabe!" Yukio looked up and saw Kane. "Hello, Kane-senpai! What are you doing out?" Akina said cheerfully. "I believe I should ask what YOU two are doing here, in this lonely corner, all by yourself..." Kane gave a wink. Totally disregarding his comment, Akina asked Kane, "Hey, do you think that we should get a big water fight here on the last day of school?" "Why, of course I'd do that. Anything to see my lovely fans in adorable bathing suits." Yukio finally broke his silence, but with negativity. "Why'd you even ask him, Akina? You knew what his answer was gonna be." "Just getting some votes. I'm gonna head around seeing if I can turn this fantasy into a reality~!" She suddenly remembered her food and began eating it before she had to get to class. Kane smirked. "Don't forget, you have my full support, and all of my adoring fans would absolutely LOVE to play a game with me. So, all you need to do now is ask... Well, the men." Two classmates of Kane's were passing by when he said that. "Did you here that!? We get to play a game with Kane-sama!!" "Oh, I have to go tell ALL of my friends! Oh, this is unimaginable, we get to play with Kane-sama!" A flurry of giggles was heard from the two. Kane simply bent his head down and smiled. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I need to check out all the girls in a half-mile radius and see if they want to have this water fight. There's no point in asking, but at least it'll spread the word." Akina left at that time as well to help Kane. "Go ahead and leave, it'll give me some peace," Yukio thought. All this hustle and bustle over a simple game... * * * * * * * * Yukio was finally home. He was ready for a break from the day, he had been going at it all afternoon. He had never before been so happy to just see his home, as small and dirty as it was. He felt a slight breeze blowing, and everything was peaceful. When he opened the door to his room, he saw the angel from the hospital sitting in the far corner, curled up in a little ball, crying her heart out. He couldn't see whether she was wearing any clothes or not; if she was, it showed most of her legs and arms. She was hunched over as much as possible, hugging her legs close to her chest, and her head rested on her knees. Her wings were lying limply on the ground, totally motionless except for her breathing. It was as if the carpet had crept up her back, tying her to the ground, never letting her escape from a place she wanted to leave. Tears were streaming down her legs, making a large, salty wet area at her feet. She looked so incredibly vulnerable, so amazingly helpless... Upon seeing her, Yukio suddenly threw his backpack at her as hard as he could in rage, turned around, and slammed the door. He didn't know why he did it, he didn't even like it. He was watching himself do it, but against his will, like someone or something was possessing him... Yukio suddenly shot up, sweating all over. He was back at school, still had a half-eaten lunch next to him, and was by himself. The entire school was empty and clouds covered the sky. There was a cold wind blowing down in the playground, how it got there Yukio didn't know. Rain was falling in small amounts, making everything slightly moist with the tears of heaven. Yukio scanned the entire area, trying to find out anything. He was confused; he had no idea as to what was going on. He would've woken up if the bell rang, Akina would've woken him up before school started, and the racket of people leaving would have woken him up, but none of it did. Suddenly, on the roof, he saw Kurotaki Mamoru, standing up there staring at him from above. He was still wearing his big backpack and still wore the black pants and white buttoned T-shirt that all boys wore at school. Mamoru was simply staring at him, with eyes that seemed able to peer directly into one's soul. Fear filled everything Yukio could think of, see, or hear. He was a lost, starving dog in the middle of nowhere, totally abandoned and alone. Suddenly the bell rang. Yukio was where he was before, but it was the real world. Students were around him, talking about things, the sun was shining, and everything was all right. "I'm going crazy," he thought. "I know it, I've lost it." He picked up his lunch and headed off for class, trying to make sense out of what happened. "I know I wasn't asleep, I know I'm not on drugs, yet I saw all of that. What was it? How do I prevent it from happening again? Why'd I think about hurting someone who's absolutely broken, and see Mamoru standing up above me?" He put his hand to his forehead and wiped off some sweat. "What is going on around here...? This can't be good..." * * * * * * * * Only a minute or two after she left Yukio to help Kane tell people about the water fight, Akina remembered that she still had to finish her lunch. Hoping she had enough time to get it eaten before the bell rang, she darted back to the place where she and Yukio had sat down for lunch. Yukio wasn't there, which surprised her. She wanted to talk to him a little bit, but he was gone. "Where could he have gone?" she wondered. "I watched him lay down as I was leaving, so I thought he'd be asleep..." She asked around to see if anyone knew where he was, but no one said they had seen him recently. They saw Akina, they saw Kane, they saw both of them talking where she was eating her lunch, but they never saw Yukio at all. She picked up the lunch she left, but left Yukio's there in case he just walked to the bathroom or something. Asking more people where he was while keeping an eye on the place where he used to be didn't shed light on his location. Eventually the bell rang. Looking one last time, and not seeing him, she left for class, thoughts on Yukio the entire way. On her way to class, she tried to stay behind so she could look a little longer. Abruptly, someone grabbed her by the hair roughly and yanked back, but when she turned around she saw no one. She couldn't have imagined it, she had almost fallen over and her head still hurt. It happened from behind her again, but this time it was her right arm that was grabbed and twisted up behind her back, and her head was pushed downward so she couldn't see who or what was doing it. Kicking her foot around didn't hit anyone, and only made her head get pushed farther down and her arm twisted until it felt like it would snap. Her other arm was paralyzed, it couldn't move at all no matter how hard she tried to raise it. Suddenly, she was released and she fell to the ground limply. She could see no one was anywhere around her now that her head was freed, but her left arm and both of her legs wouldn't move, and her right arm was still aching along with her neck. Pulling her way to her class with her only one arm seemed impossible, and no one was around to help her. She just lay there in pain, trying as hard as she could to hold back tears. "Crying will solve nothing, actions will solve anything, crying will solve nothing, actions will solve anything," she kept telling herself. But no matter how she plied her brain for answers, nothing would come up. There was nothing she could do but lie there in pain. A shadow came over her face, and she looked up to see Mamoru standing there, simply staring at her. He wasn't doing anything, he didn't even appear to be breathing or blinking. Just staring with cold eyes. She suddenly realized that she had seen him before, sometime... Sometime recently she had seen him, simply staring like he was now. She felt scared and alone, and cried helplessly in front of him. Stretching her arm out for help didn't change him, so she attempted to simply grabbed his ankle in hopes that he'd help her to class or for medical attention. The second her hand touched his ankle, he changed his view to her hand and stared at it repulsively. Suddenly Akina felt pain on her hand, and looked to see Mamoru's foot on top of it. "Yes, I've seen you before," she quietly said. "You were the one in my room last night. What do you want with me?" Mamoru stared at her face, then smashed his foot down harder on Akina's hand. Trembling and weak, she let go of his ankle and went unconscious. * * * * * * * * Akina woke up in the hospital. Her arm no longer hurt and she could move her toes. There was sunlight in her face, and there was a foil balloon that said "Don't die!" on the ceiling above her feet. "That's from Kane," Yukio said. "Yukio-senpai...? What happened...?" "We were hoping you knew. You weren't in class-- Etsu-sensei says you're in trouble and have to do extra homework-- so afterwards one of your classmates went looking for you. Must've been freaky to see you lying on the floor like that." "Mamoru-senpai... where is he?" "Mamoru-san? Why do you care?" "...I just want to know he's not here." "Okay then, he's not here. It's not like he'd ever show any emotion wherever he is, anyway." "What time is it...? I need to help mom with dinner tonight..." "You don't even know what day it is, do you? It's Sunday, and you've been here for... four days now." "...Sunday...?" "Oh yeah, the doctor said for you to say the ABCs after you woke up." "One, four, five, seven--" "Okay, you need sleep. I'll let the doctor know you're awake, and I'll swing by tomorrow." "But, no, stay. I want someone to talk to..." "Well, I've got no where to go, so I guess I'll stay." "Yukio-senpai... thanks..." After that, she fell asleep. * * * * * * * * There, I let one mysterious happening get answered, more or less :P But just like physics, all answers do is bring up more questions! Bwahahahaha... |

Okay then, chapter 4, like I promised XD Sorano Sex: female Age: 15 Eyes: varying shades of blue Hair: dangles down loosely but finely, colored a shiny black until 2-4 inches of the end of each hair, at which it rapidly becomes white, knee length Personality: shy, low self-esteem "But, no, stay. I want someone to talk to..." "Well, I've got no where to go, so I guess I'll stay." "Yukio-senpai... thanks..." After that, she fell asleep. Chapter IV: Arrival Yukio stayed at the hospital even though Akina was asleep. She'd make a fuss if she woke up and Yukio had left, so he would leave and take a walk for ten or fifteen minutes to calm his restless soul, then check on her again. Boredom was slowly taking its toll on him, he was beginning to do weird things to stay entertained, such as counting the ceiling tiles, finding out which candy bars had the most sugar, playing with his fingernails, counting the people that walked by, and all sorts of things like so. He had gotten familiar with a large portion of the hospital after about an hour and a half of wandering around, and he was getting hungry too... Not eating food for hours and hours had finally struck home. Leaving a note that said "Out to lunch, be back soon" with Akina, he headed to some random nearby restaurants to get some food. It was rather fun looking around a place he seldom went to, he had all sorts of places to see and different people to talk with. He found small talk much easier after helping people that needed it. It was so much easier that it surprised him. He owed Akina more than she knew; If it wasn't for her advice, then he might've never found this small but important happiness. Deciding upon a fast food restaurant he had never been to before, he quickly got his lunch and headed back to the hospital. Akina was still asleep. After throwing his note in the trash, there was nothing to do again. Desperate to keep boredom away, he tried to retrace his steps the last time he was here with the angel. It was very difficult and he kept on running into all sorts of dead ends and places that would lead back to the lobby. Asking someone wouldn't help, they'd just laugh at him for asking if they knew where an angel was, and he didn't know her name, or if she even had a name, so all he could do was remember and wander. Up the stairs, through three corriders, into a large room, up some more stairs, and through five corridors was as much as he could remember, and after the process of elimination he found which corridors to go through and which stairs to go up. One of the nurses came up to him with a slightly concerned look. She must've only been 19 or so, with brown braids coming out from under her cap. "Hey, are you lost? Or looking for someone?" "...If I told you what I was looking for, you'd think I was crazy." "You know you're not crazy if you think you sound crazy," she said with a wink, and by the tone of her voice he knew she wanted to know what he was looking for. "I came in here with an angel close to a week ago. I need to find her again." She looked surprised, as if his reply was something she thought no one would've said. But she didn't laugh or look confused, she was serious. "...Your name?" "Watanabe Yukio." Taking a quick look around, she said "Come with me," heading towards some large hallway. Yukio followed closely, getting lost once again in the labyrinth of halls and rooms. Everything seemed vaguely familiar though, and that gave him some hope. After a short time, they came up to the room the angel was in. "She's in there, but you didn't hear it from me," she said quietly and walked off. Yukio watched her walking off in the same direction she was when she was leading him around, turning right at the first turn she came to. Immediately, he walked right into the room, opening and closing the door as quietly as possible; there was obviously a fair amount of secrecy in this whole ordeal, and he didn't want to get caught. The angel was in the overall same position as before, but appeared to have moved slightly since his last visit as her head was facing toward the door instead of looking up at the ceiling. Her face was so peaceful, almost like she died happily. Taking a quick look-over of the room, he noticed an open binder on the counter. It appeared to be notes of the angel's statistics; Her height was 4'9, about 11 inches shorter than himself, she weighed an amazing 34.7 pounds, and it appeared she could see ultraviolet light. Her clothing had been removed and examined, revealing the ability to stretch slightly and somewhere around 65% of the light that hit it would pass through it without her clothes being clear. The last entry said it was possible that she absorbed sunlight, but how it was used and even if this was correct was unknown. Her condition had only deteriorated ever since they had gotten her, and giving her sunlight was simple and possibly life saving, yet they didn't try this simple thing. Probably because they wanted more tests done, but what good would a dead subject do? She can't last that much longer like this... If she was unconscious when they got her, and for nearly a week her condition worsened, then how much longer did she have? Taking her and putting her in sunlight was the first idea that came to him, but she'd only get a minute or two before the authorities took her away and did who knows what to him. You can't bring light in a bottle to her, either... But making the light come toward her would work. He peeked his head out the door and peered down both halls. One hallway lead to a turn, but the other had a window far at the end. If he could get ahold of the nurse that helped him get here, he might be able to get two mirrors and reflect the light down the hall and into her room. It was spring, nearing summer, so the sun wouldn't be straight above nor would it be near the horizon. It'd be in just about the perfect place. All he needed was two mirrors, and the lights in the hospital off so he could see where the light was being reflected... * * * * * * * * Akina slowly opened her eyes, trying to find out where she was again. After her vision cleared, her recent memories came flooding back, including Yukio-senpai saying he was going to stay there. Then she realized that it could have been days since he spoke to her, and she glanced at the walls for a clock. Finding none, she tried looking outside to see the position of the sun, but it was too bright for her to see. Suddenly she felt lost and alone, for she didn't know how her own condition was, if she was hurt, if it was brain damage, how much longer she'd be in there... No one was around, not even Yukio who said he'd be there. No one's here... Without warning, everything suddenly got dark except the lights on the instruments monitering her and the small amount of light coming through the window. Cries were heard outside, and the staff was busy trying to calm everyone assuring them that only the lights had gone out, that their pumps and such were still working correctly. It was too loud out there... why couldn't they shut the door and give her some peace? Then she noticed the door was shut. It must've been ear-splitting out there. It was still getting louder... She plugged her ears in an attempt to silence the noise, but it still got louder. Then a doctor opened the door and told her that only the lights were out and everything else was fine. "I know that," she thought. "I can hear you people shouting out there, I'm not deaf!" The doctor stepped closer to her face and repeated himself even louder, only making her push her hands on to her ears harder. The noise was unbearable, people shouting, carts crashing into each other, and the ringing of her own ears combined in a horrible concoction. Suddenly all was quiet; the lights were still off, but her door was shut and people were still outside. She could barely hear the people outside, it was all so quiet. Snapping her fingers to see if she had really gone deaf proved that her ears were fine. It was as loud as it always was. She was scared... Things like this had been happening much too often recently, and she couldn't tell when it was real and when it wasn't. She rolled on to her side, facing the window, and cried silently. The door swung open and shut nearly immediately, and footsteps quickly made their way to her bed. Akina peeked over her shoulder, and saw Yukio standing over her. She abruptly stopped crying, even though she wanted to more than anything at the moment, and simply whispered "Yukio-senpai..." He walked closer, swung a stool to right beside the bed and sat on it, put his hand on her shoulder, and simply gazed into her eyes with a surprising amount of love and care. At that moment, Akina broke down crying and rolled toward him, letting her head rest in his lap. She didn't know why she was crying, or why she wanted to be with Yukio-senpai so bad, but when he put one hand on her head and the other over her back, she cried even harder. After crying for a few minutes, the lights turned back on and the hustle and bustle slowly died down. Then a police officer busted through the door, grabbed Yukio, who didn't resist at all and simply stared at Akina while being dragged out the door. She didn't know why this was happening, but she wanted it to stay like it was before. "Yukio-senpai!" she screamed, which was all she could say before the officer was out the door. That left Akina lying in bed alone again, tears still wet on her face. Yukio had just been taken from her, right when she wanted him most, and there was nothing she could do. If her wishes had any power whatsoever, then he would have been right back at her side, but wishes did nothing. Only actions would solve this problem, and she couldn't do anything other than lay in bed. Putting her hands over her face, she cried bitterly, wishing and hoping that this was another dream or hallucination, but it stayed just like it did without changing. * * * * * * * * "Aww, I miss AH-KEE-NAH... She's been gone for so long...! I want her to come back..." Kane was at home, alone in his room, whining and complaining as he always was. "I miss her cheeriness, the lovely spring in her step, the way she'd eat her food..." Suddenly he heard a voice outside his window. It was slightly high in its pitch, and was rather monotone. "Why don't you go see her?" "...Uhh... W-Who are you?" "I believe I asked 'Why don't you go see her?'" "...Because I don't know... Umm... Which hospital she's at? XD" "You know full well where she is, yet you don't go see her. And how did you pronounce a smiley?" "..." "You know full well where she is, yet you don't go see her. Why?" "I... " "You're scared, aren't you? Scared of the hospital?" "No, of course I'm not! If I was scared of the hospital, then I'd be in 2nd grade!" "Then you are in second grade, for you are scared to go see her." "Quit making up lies like thaaaat... Fine, I'll go see her! I'll get up and do it right now!" Kane waited for a reply, but all that would answer was silence. Slipping on his socks and and shoes, he headed out the door. Taking off his shoes, he got some food first. * * * * * * * * Takahashi Etsu was in her classroom, although it was Sunday. It was the only place she could be alone, and she used that time to catch up on her reading and to let Rini use up some of her energy in the playground. Every once in a while, she'd look out the window and see her on the slide, climbing a wall, chasing an insect, pulling up grass, or some other mischevious thing. After making sure Rini didn't kill herself, Etsu would continue reading quietly. After an hour or so of reading and looking out the window, Etsu closed her just finished novel, still teary-eyed from when the main character told his girlfriend that he loved her, then died. She started for the playground to get Rini, but met her in the hall because she was bored of playing in the playground. "Mommy, I'm booored... Can't we play hide 'n' seek?" Etsu reached down and held Rini's hand, then proceeded to exit the school. "But I need to make dinner soon. You want dinner don't you?" "Yeah, but I want to play, too!" "We can play later, okay? We'll play... how about after dinner? "After you start making dinner?" Etsu smiled at how eager she was to play. "No, silly, after dinner's done and we've eaten it." Rini was going to say something, but she noticed a rubber bouncy ball in the corner of the hall and began shoving it in her mouth and throwing it at the walls. One of the times she threw it, it stopped when it rolled into a plastic bag on the floor. Rini scampered over to it and showed it to her mother. "Hey mom, is this litter?" "Yes, that's litter. Whoever left it there is gonna have to answer to me about it..." "Doesn't litter kill people?" "No, litter kills the animals that try to eat it when they think it's food." "Why would an animal eat a bag?" "Sometimes it smells like food because it used to have food in it, I'd think. Say if on the dinner table, there was a kind of food you'd never seen before. It looked like it wasn't food, but it smelled really good. Would you try to eat it?" "No, because I know it's a bag." "But let's say it wasn't a bag, it was a really rare type of good smelling food." "You're not tricking me, mommy, I still know it's a bag!" Etsu simply rolled her eyes and shrugged. "Well, I guess I can't outsmart you then, eh?" "Nope, because I'm really smart! S-M-R-T!" "...Wow, what a cool word you know how to spell! Can you teach me how to spell it, Rini?" "But you're a teacher! I can't teach a teacher, it's like getting water wet!" Etsu was surprised at the ingenuity of that; usually a little kid would love getting the attention it wants, but Rini knew full well that her mother was smarter than she was, and even used a metaphor. Children never do that without hearing it before. "No, Rini, teachers can be taught. In fact, teachers learn more than the students!" "That's because the kids sleep while you talk!" Once again she was surprised; Rini already even knew that. Most kids are surprised when they hear that the teachers learn more than the students do. "That's why I try as hard as I can to keep them awake, so that they can learn more than I do." "Is that why they're scared of you?" Were her students scared of her? She never thought to ask her students if they were scared of her, and if they were scared than they wouldn't want to incur the wrath of herself, so it wouldn't do any good to ask them. "Are they really scared of me? Have you asked them?" "No, I just hear them talk about it while I'm waiting for you sometimes. Didn't you know that mommy?" "Eh-- no, I didn't. Come to think of it, I did give Izumitaki extra homework even though she's in the hospital... Say Rini, do you know how I could be less scary?" "You're not scary at all, you're my mom!" She should've expected such an answer from someone like Rini. However, it didn't change the fact that she wanted to learn how to be less scary. Getting in the students faces less would help... Maybe involving the class a little bit, too. Seeing something happen and explaining why it happened is better than just explaining alone. Yes, she could do that, and be less harsh on the students. She wanted to be a teacher that would be remembered in school, not just another teacher. Making herself memorable was the goal, but how would she attain it? Why could she do differently from the rest of the teachers to set herself apart? That's it. If she was to involve the class, then why not involve the class in this, too? The students knew more about each of the teachers and what they did more than she did, and they knew what they enjoyed more than she did, so it'd be killing two birds with one stone. First person she'd get advice from would be Izumitaki, and take off the extra homework while she's at it. * * * * * * * * Akina was released later in the evening. She was perfectly fine physically, and they had more people coming in than they usually did and were running out of beds, so she got out earlier then expected. Although she wanted to go home, she was going to stop by Yukio-senpai's house on the way home. She was still feeling a little lonely, but not as scared as she was previously. Besides, she was going to have to find out what had happened at school while she was gone. A lot can happen in four days... It was a long walk from the hospital to home. Her parents were gone since she was out early, and Yukio-senpai didn't answer his phone, so she had to walk the entire way home. Light headedness and an unsteady balance weren't helping either, and she had to rely on a wall or a fence to make sure she walked straight and didn't run into anything. Several times she tripped over her own feet. Maybe she got out too early... About halfway to Yukio-senpai's home, she saw him walking in her direction. "Hey, Yukio-senpai!" she called. Yukio looked up and saw her, then ran towards her to spare her the trouble of walking. "Hey, you're out early. A little unsure of your own legs, I see." "Yeah... I tried calling you, but you didn't answer." "I was on the phone... so how come it didn't say that the line was busy?" "...I'm not sure... Maybe I called my house twice instead..." she said with her signature wink. After Akina said that, she would've fallen to the ground if Yukio hadn't caught her. "I think you need some help getting home, or you need to go back to the hospital. How did you even get this far without scraping yourself up?" "...It wasn't so hard before. Now I'm tired..." "Okay, up you go," said Yukio while turning around and stepping backwards, then hunching down to give Akina a piggyback ride. She fell on to his back, draping her arms around his neck. Then Yukio hoisted up her legs, and started off for her home. "You really don't have to, I can do it myself," said Akina drearily. "Yeah, you probably could, but it'd be late by the time you got home and you'd be scratched and bruised up pretty bad." "...Thanks, Yukio-senpai." "Sure, no problem. But you know, I wouldn't mind getting lesson #2 anytime soon." Akina giggled. "All right, lesson #2 will be... Smile and be outgoing." "What?! Be outgoing?! I'm already hating this lesson..." Akina giggled once again. "You can do it, Yukio-senpai. It's not hard, just try!" "Well, I'm gonna have to do it, whether I want to or not." "...Why do you have to try? Why did you even ask me to help you be nice in the first place?" Yukio didn't say anything. "Okay then, keep your silence. I'll just keep on helping and find out later, okay~?" "That works. It shouldn't be too long before you find out, anyway." "Okay, then I'll just wait for you to tell me." The two traveled on quietly but peacefully. After ten minutes of walking, he began thinking that Akina wouldn't have made it home. He was only about halfway there, and they had been going for over ten minutes... If he didn't arrive when he did she wouldn't have made it home. So maybe they were even now... At least he was going to call it even, whether it was or not. "Okay Akina, there you go," he said quietly. After she said nothing and didn't move, he looked at her face and found her asleep. He tried opening the door to her house, but the door was locked, and he didn't want to try fishing around in her pockets for a key, so he just sat down near the door and waited for her to wake up, even if it was going to take all night. After a brief time, he saw Etsu-sensei coming to Akina's house with Rini-chan. After Rini-chan saw Yukio, she let go of her mother's hand and ran for him, but slowed down when he hushed her and pointed to Akina. Rini slowly walked toward Yukio and whispered, "Why is she asleep?" "Because she was at the hospital and got out early, and now she's tired." "So Yuko was going to wait here all night?" "Yeah, she's been through a lot, and she likes it when I'm near her." "She likes you?" "Oh yeah. She's liked me for... I'm not sure, but it's been forever." "Do you like her back?" Yukio wasn't sure what to say; even he wasn't sure of it one way or the other. "...Yeah, I guess I like her." "Are you gonna marry her?" "Uhh-- wel-- Uhh-- I don't know... it's really an odd question to ask..." "But if two people love each other, than they get married!" That shocked him even more; he had never even thought about love... Especially if it was someone he knew. Then he noticed that Etsu was simply staring and watching with one leg crossed over the other and a huge mischevious smile on her face. "Hey Etsu-sensei, mind helping me with little miss questionnaire here?" She simply shook her head and observed with a bigger grin than before. Yukio drooped his head and sighed. Then Etsu decided to help after she tortured him a little bit. "Well, why don't me and Rini watch over Izumitaki, and let you go home? You look tired." Yukio had to admit he was tired, so he accepted and went home. Besides, if Akina's parents came home and saw her with a guy her age like that, he'd get in trouble. He walked up to her and put his hand on her shoulder, making her jump a little a little and look at him in fear. Her eyes were a blue on the outside of her iris, but toward the pupil darkened into a very deep blue that was nearly black. Her entire face was covered with her tears, and her eyes were full of loneliness. But after seeing someone being affectionate toward her, she hugged his waist and cried on Yukio's legs, desperate for something resembling love. "...Isn't this the second time someone has cried on me recently?" * * * * * * * * Chapter IV is now complete (as far as I know) ^_^ Not much else to say though :P Edit: Found a few typos XD |
