So far about level 150+ doing some of the pure white/pure dark sidequests. Only did a few of them so far. - Beat living Miralda (shifts to black) - recieved her armor set...looks creepy! - Beat Satsuki (shifts to black) - recieved katana 'Makoto' - Beat B. Phantom Garl (shift to white) & got item from Selen - Met living Scirvir (only in pure white) Still have to rescue Rydell but beating those Maneaters in New Game+ is a pain in the @$$...probably for me the hardest boss fight. Equipment for me. Since i'm a female Royal my stuff is limited especially with armour. Weapons - Winged Moon Spear +4 (primary - need 1 more p.moonlight stone for final upgrade)) - Insanity Catalyst (secondary 1) - need to beat b.phantom Scirvir for the Talisamn of the Beast....think that is the name of it (miracles & spells) - Blueblood Sword or Northern Regalia (secondary 2 - depends on situation) - Purple Flame Shield +10 (my opinion the best Shield!) - Lava Bow or Sticky Compound Long Bow +4 (interchangeable) Armor - Black Leather set (great against poison) *note* @ Stoney-san Quiting the game works well when playing offline but seems kinda cheap when you are online....it's the cowards way out. If you are invaded you fight with honor...win or lose. My record so far i believe is 4 wins + 4 losses. If i lose i just farm souls at level 4-2 (about 12000 souls each time...& in an hour or so you can get up to a million) easily. |

@Stoney - "Forgot to mention, if an invading character does run into a group of enemies you can counter by using the rolling attack of the Cleaver/Great Sword/Great Club/any 2H sword as it damages in a radius about the player, then roll out, heal and repeat until the smaller enemies are gone. You could also use Firestorm or Wrath of God as they are area of effect centered around the caster, but they have a casting time. I think Firestorm is faster and is the stronger of the two. Also, if you run in then the Phantom will have to switch to melee and will likely take out some of the enemies as well. I have a Claymore as my main weapon and it works great for taking out dense groups of enemies." That's all well and good, but it highly depends on your current location, what enemies you are dealing with and what equipment/character type you are playing as. The character I play as wouldn't be able to pull off any of those moves to any great extent with the exception of Firestorm (But Firestorm has a casting time and, at least in my experience, barely ever hits anything the size of a person). "I had a thought and so I looked into it. According to a forum on GameFAQs you can log out of your game during a black phantom invasion with no negative side effects other than probably getting flaming messages sent to your PSN account from the pissed off invader." Thanks, that's good to know. I will be sure to use this to my advantage. I could care less about messages from other players. They have nothing to lose by invading, I have my progress through a level and my souls to lose and not really much to gain from fighting them. It's even worse in NG+ where most of the people who invade my game vastly outlevel me and can wipe me out in literally 2 hits. @Izumo- I don't see it as being cheap unless you do it when you are already fighting the person and you are losing. Doing that before you start to fight someone is basically like using the Banish spell, so I see no problem in using it that way. I just don't think I should have to deal with 6 or 7 people in a row before I even get the chance to see the first fog of the level. |

@ Jon-san *quote* "I just don't think I should have to deal with 6 or 7 people in a row before I even get the chance to see the first fog of the level." If you put it that way than i can see when it can get annoying to the point of frustration. Have you really been invaded so constantly? cause in the time that i play i maybe get 1 or 2 guys during my playtime. Never had a barrage of invaders, it maybe the time of day that i play. Since i'm in the west coast & i play late at night the amount of players may be limited. I barely see any of the 'ghost' characters when i play. If i wanna grind or level up or do play the story i usually do it offline, if i wanna test the character i'll switch to online. I find it that it depends on luck on who you face online...some maybe easily beaten others can pawn you. It's the luck of the draw i guess. For me personally i usually lose to magic users....melee fighters is more a cat & mouse game trying to bait each other to strike than you can counter...unless they have the Keel Smasher or Cleaver than it is extremely difficult. With my build it was hard to fight guys with those.... |

@Izumo-san - During my first playthrough there was only one world that gave me that level of trouble, and that was World 4-1. 4-1 is apparently a popular place for PvP because the starting area is a wide circular area good for battles (I've also read that people like it because B.Phantoms don't have to run far to trigger monster attacks). In NG+ I always get invaded no matter what world I go in to. Maybe it's the time of day I'm playing, maybe I'm really unlucky, I don't know. All I do know is that I've barely made any progress in NG+ because of all the invasions. |

I just checked Gamespot's year end awards & to my suprise with stiff competition from Uncharted 2 & others it was Demon's Souls that the site chose to be their Game of the Year. I'm impressed with Gamespots decision to give their GOTY to a niche title like this, ignoring sales & hype. Good job Gamespot! |

The difference in classes is really only present in the very beginning of the game. Anyone can start as a thief, but eventually everyone will end up with the same stats. Everyone can learn the same spells and use the same weapons and armour. The class you initially choose really only effects how difficult the beginning of the game will be for you. (I went barbarian and boy was it ever difficult)

I was Soul Level 86 when I finished up with the game, but I only went through the main game once because the second playthrough was total hell with stronger enemies/bosses and the near constant barrage of invading players 100+ levels stronger than me. I kind of got fed up with that so I stopped soon after I finished the story. @Stoney - I was referring mainly to how you choose to play your character. My character can't really roll around too much or cast a lot of magic, I focused mainly on defense, equip weight and power. For my character, rolling is pretty much the same as kneeling down and waiting to have your head cut off, because it's slow, eats up a relatively large chunk of stamina and doesn't really get me out of someone's attack range. I stick to blocking with a shield and parrying as opposed to rolling, kind of like a Heavy Knight class. The only trouble I have from B.Phantoms is their tendency to run in to packs of monsters and hit me with range attacks (or wait until the monsters attack and then rush me while that's going on) or heal. Other than that, I mostly get beaten by B.Phantoms that are way higher level than me and which I therefore have no possible way of beating regardless of tactics. |

This game is the reason I got a ps3. I started a couple of days ago and am already lvl 90. I use a meat cleaver build. I've been pvping a lot ever since the beginning. Getting invaded is a great way to earn souls because every invader killed drops a huge amount. I never summon blue phantoms to kill black phantoms. On occasions I've killed the host plus both blue phantoms, its times like those that make pvp really fun. I still haven't beat the game because I pvp too much instead. I use the ring of strength so I wear full armor and get fast stamina regen, rolls, and running speed. Does anybody wanna help each other farm colorless souls? |
