Nice, a pianist!

Hey, Schaz, what pieces do you play?

Re: Gendou - Visual Novel Project
Link | by on 2009-05-14 22:45:22
Haha... well, alright then.

For the visual novel, should we create a full voiced edition, and if so, how will it be done?
-Hai-hai des! We'll hold decisions on that till after initial release.

Will we include assorted minigames for the VN? or will it just be a linear text game?
-Okay! I guess we can decide on what kind of minigame would be appropriate based off of what the story might hold.

Should we have a limit to how many character arcs to be made?
-I'm also agreeing on the idea of three too, if we honestly want to get it done by Christmas. But, considering the amount of people entering. Iyaa, would that mean that the top three authors write the arcs with assistance from the other authors?

Will the VN have H-Content, or be a regular all ages edition?
-No need for further comment here, thank goodness... -_-'

Should we have the visual novel arcs have a uniting theme? (Such as Clannad's overshadowing theme on family) If so, what?
-well, I'm personally learning towards a yes. I think a uniting theme for the VN makes them compliment one another, and the quality of the product as a whole.

Should we have an objective date for the project to be finished?
-Hah, well, I thought making it would take a bit longer. But okay, christmas it is then. It may actually be possible if we do limit how much we make/have more staff.

@ Key

I suppose a good amount of the story'll be decided by Mokona's prologue when it's posted up. We'll decide the rest of the details if they're missing.

For the music... well, while I dont have anything related to certain musical choices I do have some ideas. Forgive me, as some of them are probably common sense anyways.

The music should generally not get in the way of the player when they hear it, rather, it should help compliment the scene. The music should also probably have the ability to loop without the player noticing the song ended.

Instrumental choices I think would probably be the sets used in most visual novels. (Because, actually, I kinda have a strong like for Visual Novel Ost's) Largely because they're mostly positive sounding, occasionally catchy, and more or less subtle when listened to. But, as Faiz said, if it can compliment the scenes it's used for, than it's good.

BTW- Took that advice on reading that manga... haha.

@ Faiz:

Three or four arcs'll be acceptable if all the storys are well writeen, and a couple of minigames in there. Should also keep development time from being too long.

I agree with the minigames having a skipping option. Just in case of players find them repetitive... ^^'

If companies had copyrights on themes, then I suppose it would be a good idea to avoid themes on mothers, family, friends, and the snow, as well as themes on love. -But in all seriousness, do give a whistle if it seems like the threat exists when we do attempt to go down that route.

@ Chaz: Sweet, music department's got two. I eagerly await to see your talent Schaz!

@ All: If anyone else wants to voice out their opinion on these please feel free to do so. Still and always open to public!

Well, I might be able to help out in the art department. While not being the best... if I can manage to get my scanner to work on my laptop than I can start putting drawings in. The only problem is I lack the ability or software to finish the drawings to what you'd expect them to be.

@UGO and Basil: Don't expect me too much... I'm not an expert or someone really good... I'm only an ordinary Guitarist who learn a little piano as a basic...
Anyway, I'll help anything I can

@Basil~san! I've downloaded the Ren'py... I didn't know if I could help you a lot... but I've managed to created a small novel with menu... A menu that is... still having problem with something T-T Need more practice I guess...

@UGO~san: Well I suggested three arc... but the side character is not a big problem was it? so as long as they didn't have their own arcs (or at least for now... if you want to make this novel have some serries) we could add them... and maybe another arc for them in the next episode (if you want... I mean we...)

okay! off I'm go! can't wait to see the continuation of this project!

For the visual novel, should we create a full voiced edition, and if so, how will it be done?

Full Voiced; But how, Im not sure. Is it possible for it
to be done through something like Skype? Or could we send
in the lines we need to voice in a sound file?

Will we include assorted minigames for the VN? or will it just be a linear text game?

Minigames are nice, but the main game should be concentrated
on first. Minigames could come in an updated version.

Should we have a limit to how many character arcs to be made?

Yes, but I think the number should be decided when we have a
staff finalized and have the authors set.

Will the VN have H-Content, or be a regular all ages edition?

I would prefer all ages so all of Gendou could play!
But, for those who want H-Content, you could add it
in to maybe an 'Adult' version of the game that uses
the same story and all but with scenes added in for the H Lovers.

Should we have the visual novel arcs have a uniting theme? (Such as Clannad's overshadowing theme on family) If so, what?

I believe so, Yes. As to what, Im not sure.
You could so Family, Friendship, Love; any work.
Since it is on Gendou, friendship amy be best.

Should we have an objective date for the project to be finished?

Yes; That way there is a sense of urgency while at the same time
there is a set date to know we have to get thigns done. Worse come
to worse, we can always push it back.

Minna~! Here shall be the first round of announcements! Today Ugo says:

Wohoo, Mokona's story thing has been started! Below, Ugo posted basic plot ideas from what's been posted on the competition piece. Hopefully Mokona wont glomp me on the head for giving these out! ^^'

@ Faiz: Gah- I should also make a banner siggy to promote the VN too!

Nice! I can bet a button that that's Haruka From Little Busters!(?)

@ Shuyin:

Yesp, both of those ideas could be an option. However, we cant move forward with it unless other people step forward to assist in the area of voice acting.

For all your other ideas, I'll also say that I pretty much agree on your opinion. Thanks for giving input!

Exactly how many people would you need in the voice acting department? Depending on who we get, one person can probably do two or three voices (Not including me of course, I can only manage one. . . barely. XD).

H Content?

I think you would have to ask Gendou about that. The Rules say not to post sexual content (Don't think linking to it would be allowed) so if you want Gendou members to play it you'd probably have to take private requests for it. That's if you plan on openly telling people about the game here on Gendou.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to have an 'Adult Version', the only trouble would be getting together a team to make that version.

-The members involved would have to be over 18 (If you want to get all legally technical about it).

-We would have to get programmers/artists/voice actors (lol, well maybe not voice actors, doubt you'd get enough members willing to do it) that want to do it.

@ Jon:
Wakaaa~! I apologize that I completely forgot about that~!

*Sighs* Well here, considering most people are against it, and considering the fact the sort of "partener" characters are guys lets just throw the H-idea out. If people really want to chase after that idea, then discussion on that topic'll be out of this forum.

Jonathon also makes some valid points towards framework for such development.

Anyways, on your question, simply keep an eye out for the amount of characters that'll come up. Depending on how many characters are needed to be voiced and people join up, we may or may not need to recruit.

2 important things on that topic: the ability to create clear sound clips, and second, an extra staff member or two to work on proper editing and implementing the voices into the VN. Those, along with proper finishing on at least the text, are mandatory for giving the green light on production of a voiced edition.

@ Faiz: Whee, whipped together a siggy for promotion. Followed the self made tradition of using Little Busters! characters. XD

@UGO - Well in terms of editing I have some experience in Audacity, as well as Sony Vegas 8 Pro (which I bought but barely ever use except for game recording). I'd be willing to apply for an editor in that department.

Also, question about the website thing seeing as how I put myself up for that team position. I assume that you plan to use a free website creation host in order to put this up, but in the off chance I'm wrong I have to ask, do you have any plans on completely designing the entire website and paying server fees?

Re: Gendou - Visual Novel Project

@ Jon: Okay, well-- Haha, Ugo doesn't have much idea what those are. But even so skills in those areas of course will really help. The Voiced edition is a far off idea, but, if recruitment in the VA area can make this:

Recruit Someone Capable of editing voice clips
Recruit 1 or 2 people who can properly edit the clips into the visual novel.
Have enough Voice acting Staff capable of making minimum quality audio clips.

-Then I'll consider the Voice Acting Committee on Waiting for Progress - Hiatus. Auditions will be held once characters are confirmed, and proper scripts will given out once text is fully proofread. It'll be the job of the heads of that department to be sure that the voice acting will go appropriately to the scenes and edit and request retakes as needed.

But, as said that's still a ways off, so you have lots of time to brush up and prepare. I'm happy, if enthusiasm for a full voice edition goes on like this, we may be able to release a full voice edition alongside the standard release. However, because the Voice Acting is an added load of work, we need separate staff to be able to work in that area if we want it to be completed released ASAP.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

EDIT:

Your assumption on the website's correct. I dont think anyone's welling to put out money for a site. We'll probably/must need to use a free sever or such.

I thought so, I don't think any of us are rich enough to shell out for that, especially on a (what I assume to be) a non-profit game.

I am simply questioning this in advance. The voice work won't even begin until the games ground work is in place. Consider me in waiting for that however. I would gladly head up the VA department if no-one else will.

As soon as you have the departments ready then the site should go up as a way to organize the information.

Do you have any plans to produce this on a disk? Distribution may be another department to think about once everything begins to wrap up.

If I may suggest a free hosting site,
'Freewebs' ( or as it is now know ) 'Webs'
is a pretty good place.

They have alot of templates to choose from,
and I've made my share of about 12 Websites
on there over the various years, so I know
how the system works.

But, if we want this to all be personalized
and look original, anyone that knows HTML
can design and operate their own website
from the Webs thing. I don't know HTML, so
I couldn't do anything with that, but if you
ended up just going with one of their templates
I could do alot more to help.

http://www.webs.com/

Check around Ugo, or whoever wants to spearheard
the website idea, and I'll help with anything you
may need. Long as it isnt HTML Im a bit of a Wiz
at it, xDDD!

Or at least I like to think I am :x ...

Hmmmm....me supervisor lol. I sense danger if i take that path lol. So if its still open ill take it

Also sure. Ill make new arcs and proofread stories. But we need like a main storyline first.

Missing:
- Main Storyline.
- Characters ( Try adding more details into them but its kinda early in this stage but its best to plan it out now then later)
- Setting ( Maybe Someone Could Do A Setting Paragraph or w/e its called to get a good feeling of around it. ) (=___= what lol it helps people sometimes)

P.S I had trouble finding this thread lol untill i had the idea to look in my post history .__. *feels retarded*

@ Jonathan: Well, the notion of making a disk is a very far fetched idea. Considering it'll be downloadable, I dont see the need. The only situation in which I'd think of releasing a disk:

If 15 years from now somehow we end up becoming a business and release a sort of omnibus edition with extra arcs/ updated artwork.

Or

If a need for such a disk is in high demand.

The first thing is pretty far out there. But if I did release a physical edition of the game. I want it to have enough extra goods (In the form of, I guess commentary book and an extras disk full of unused and creation stages materials) to make it worth getting despite coming from a free internet released game. Disk production is something I'm thinking is unlikely. Still, I'm open to the idea if it starts to come into demand.

@ Shuyin: Thanks for the suggestion! Its still pretty early for making a site but anyone willing to step up on it now has the freedom to do so. Aside from suggestions and requests, I basically leave the website to it's respective department until the need for it comes.

@ Doomlight: Um, you're right. But, the information I posted up is all based off of Mokona's contest post. I'm sorry if what is currently available seems bland. This summer'll have lots of time working out the bits of the storyline.

And, as a supervisor, doomlight-san. I'll give you you're first request in heads up. My intent is to make IM meetings between the respective authors when we start out the discussions on the story. Ugo... unfortunately needs to take summer school for a majority of the month of June. (Because I haven't been given the chance at a foreign language class at all, its junior year already...)

So, if there's a chance that the agreed time (will probably be determined a week prior) happens to be during my school hours, I will kindly request if you can supervise the said IM chats. Basically,' along with helping with the story, it's simply your job to make sure what we need to have resolved gets resolved. I'll make sure to give you notice as soon as the IM dates are decided.

After that, I'll give you watch over 2 or three departments. Your jobs simply to report their progress to me, and relay messages back and fourth, oversee them when they do collaborations, and just gently push them forward. It's likely we'll be exchanging lots of progress and orders and requests from the departments amongst one another.

So- Knowing the general description of things to come in taking this position, are you still willing to take it?

Well depending on how the game turns out, I know of a few people around here who would probably want a physical disk (Myself and Izumo-san first and foremost). It's a collector thing, we see the need to have a physical product in our hands to add to collections. XD

I have had experience with FreeWebs, me and my friends used it years ago to try a game review site idea. While I agree that it is a decent site for this sort of thing, I'd think the website team would prefer to look around for a bit to decide.

@Ugo: Geee.... I envy you your Natsume Rin's banner! X_X
You're skilled at doing those kind of thing aren't you? well.. I don't use many effect when creating this one... and yeah... it is Saigusa Haruka from Little Buster... I like her because her personality somehow matches me up ~_~! creating riot in class... even the other class... though mostly in my class XD

wow... we've jumped to the web already? why don't we discuss the character first... I mean the look of them... Ugo nor Mokona hadn't made any .... like the face(round, ellips etc.); eyes (slant, sharp, big, blue, green, brown, etc.); hair(green, blue, red, blond, curly, straight, long, etc.); body(slim, tall, etc.) and so on....

it might help the guys from Artistry area as well as creating the right scene in the story. such as

Aya's long red hair waves at the sky when Lax suddenly pinch her chin slowly and closses it to his....
#and of course kissing not happen for something like
superman suddenly flies nearby and make Aya fell right to the street
XDXD!

okay then... see you soon!

@ Jon: Well, I guess a cost effective way of ding it would be making Printable CD covers for said CD's and printable inserts. Though I'm guessing by physical product, something like what you'd see at a store(Box and all)?

@ Faiz!

Thanks! I just used photobucket to make it. I was fortunate to come across the Little Busters! Artbook when I did. I mostly like Rin since I envy how good she is with cats. Whenever I go feed leftovers to the strays in our neighborhood, they patiently play a little staring game with me until one of us goes away. I lost most of the time, obviously.

But anyway, I personally don't have the liberty to decide what the characters look like. Since Mokona is their creator. I suppose it would be needed to ask Mokona on that. Unless she's fine on the idea. I assume she's come across this post so... (Waits on Mokona) Though, I'd say it'd be appropriate to discuss this topic in the writer's club if everyone wants to take a crack at it now.

I agree on the scene idea, but what scene exactly will be decided based on what is written. Artists'll still have the freedom to decide the aspect of about everything else. (such as positioning of camera, exact background, etc.)

@Ugo- Yes. My hope is that (should this go as well as we all are hoping) once everything is said and done that each member of the team that is taking part in this will receive a physical copy of the game. I would even be willing to pay for any costs (DVD's, insert/cover printing, cases) if not head the entire production myself. Kind of a memento of everyone who took part in the project of the finished product.

My hope would be for people who want to order a physical copy, if not then I'd still like the idea above to take shape.
