Hello everyone, mind if I stick around?
I think personally that Mcafee is quit good. I'm now using Mcafee Enterprise 8.0. Something that I considered is that u can use the SDAT file to scan your computer. Yup without installing the antivirus itself.

First you must download the SDAT file, I download it from Mcafee site and chose Small n Medium Bussiness, and download. You would have something like sdatxxxx.exe which the x's are number. Then u run it using command prompt using the '/e' switch.

Example :
sdat3551 /e

U will find that now it has been extracted (there is no sign though, u just have to wait untill ur hardrive stop acting. There u will find 'scan.exe' which function just like the real antivirus, with the update too !!!

U can run it with command prompt, there are many parameter to use, but primaryly i just used the '/adl', '/clean', '/del', and '/report "C:\scan.txt"'
It will scan all your local harddrive, clean the files if it can, or del if it cannot be healed, and create the report on scan.txt.

Example :
scan /adl /clean /del /report "C:\scan.txt"

Hope u can use it.

Best Regards

For me! I commonly use NAV (Norton Antivirus)

But, I want to change this antivirus in my system because it eats huge amount of RAM when my system starts and when I run it to scan my system. Its always the #1 RAM Consumer in my PC. I tried some antivirus (shareware, freeware, or even licenced as test-run) but I keep on going back to use NAV because NAV is more accurate in detecting virus, worms, trojans, spywares, or newly develop virii. Try to surf the Symantec Website to know what is it. ^_^

You won't need an Anti-Virus program if you have a decent firewall.
If you use windows, I would recommend Zone Alarm.
Anti-Virus programs are not needed ``

I use NOD32. My parents have used more different antiviruses than I care to keep track of, and none of them really stood out.

For two years I used my desktop for all of my surfing, never caught anything, never used an antivirus. (still don't have one installed on it, in fact)
Good browsing techniques and experienced discretion will keep you safe. Unfortunately, many people don't know how to spot them (viruses/adwares)

I've got NOD32 on this laptop here... it's absolutely all you'll ever need.

How good is it?

Story:
I'm a programmer. I wanted to make a chatbot for an IRC channel (since I can't develop GIR from college) so I decided I'd create it by adapting rbot, which is actually a trojan designed to connect to irc and await orders, do stuff, then report back on irc. If I remove the bad stuff, it is essentially a chatbot: it checks to see what people say in the chat, and it responds appropriately.
[/explain]
So, my friend deleted a lot of the code from the bot and added some chatbot-essential code too, and he zipped the code and sent it to me through yahoo instant messenger.

NOD32 caught it halfway through and canceled the download. It caught halfway transfered, compressed, highly modified source code. Yeaaaaah........

Anyways, definitely get NOD32. A lot of people counter and say AVG is better. I've never used it, but NOD32 has gone above and beyond anything any user would need.

Definetly AVG. Works silently in the background, updates once in a while, finds threats once in a while when I'm downloading off the wrong sites. Haven't had any serious virus problems for years. And it's free.

For me, I use AVG Internet Security. As an addition to what Kazu said, AVG also doesn't take up much resources compared to hogs like Norton, etc. Though this version of AVG is not free. .___.

In my opinion, it all depends on what you want your Anti-Virus to do. If you want to be open to attacks from viruses, then I recommend continuing using AVG 8.0 Free.

One of the best ones I have used is ESET NOD32. It runs quickly and silently in the background and runs a full system scan faster than most Anti-Viruses. It also doesn't restrict your internet browser in any way, which can be bad or good. One problem though, viruses can slip through. I was using this anti-virus and my computer got infected in a course of a few months.

The worst Anti-Virus I have ever used was AVG. I was using it and I got infected in a month. Enough said.

Norton Anti-Virus is probably the best one I have ever used. It does run quite silently although it does use up quite a bit of your processing power. The best version of it to use is probably Norton 360. If you're looking for one lower than $100 (USD), then I'd go with Norton Internet Security. When it comes to Norton, do not use the standard pack. One problem with Norton is that it requires you to delete most of the other Anti-Virus programs that are currently on your computer. Plus, when you first install it, you have to set the firewall manually or else it will block some of the programs that require internet, such as Google Chrome or a video game. If you are a gamer I do not recommend using Norton Anti-Virus for that exact reason.

One more Anti-Virus out there that I would recommend is McAfee Security Suite. If you are looking for a cheap Anti-Virus that will get the job done, then this one is for you. It's not quite as thorough as Norton when it comes to system scans, but it does have a decent Virus-Alert system. One of the Pros of using this specific Anti-Virus program is the McAfee SiteAdvisor. If you're planning on getting McAfee, this should be your #1 reason. It tells you if the site you are browsing is safe or not, tells you if there are any malicious downloads, and has feedback from other users of SiteAdvisor for you to view.

There are probably many more Anti-Viruses out there that I have come across, but the winner in my book has to be a tie. ESET NOD32 and Norton Internet Security 2008+. The best method I have come across is using both of them at the same time. NOD32 is one of the Anti-Viruses that Norton does not require you to delete before using its product, so they can both run effectively at the same time. NOD32 can do most system scans quickly and effectively then Norton can get deeper into your system and clean that out.

P.S. I am currently using Norton Internet Security 2009.

Honestly, it depends on how much protection you're looking for. If you aren't careful when browsing the net, you'll need better protection of course. I've used AVG for years, I've had one virus that made me have to format. And it's not like I don't visit a suspicious site now and then.

I've been using AVG for a long time now, and I haven't had a single virus despite all the downloading I do. My firewall is handled by my computer at the moment and it has blocked me from several sites as well as attempts, so it's doing it's job for the time being.

I've always hated Norton, and I find it to be the worst Anti-Virus out there. It's irritating, resource consuming and doesn't run smoothly. It takes a lot of resources from the system and tends to bug you for every possible reason, usually updates. I would suggest using Kaspersky or McAfee over Norton if at all possible.
