i also like to add some pointers, new Rp-ers these day tends to forgot something important, well some of them...

'they don't read others post!'

'they usually do hit and run post (enter a Rp, seeing a lot have post before he/she, ignore them, write the continuation of the previous post he/she wrote) until somebody OOC them or PM them that he/she is in their story (that really sucks)'

Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, read between your previous post to the recent post, if you really lazy to read, just use find tools on your browser to see if your name or character name is on somebody post.

somebody maybe trying to interact or somebody that have less authority than the creator but still wanted to build up a story with you, yet because of you didn't read their post you ignore them

please read other post, it will help a lot to build up story.....

agree with key.
the first thing you have to do before you post...
understand the story...
some new RP-ers in my RP (Tales of Arcania) just ruin my story with junk post...a hit and run post and unmatch story
that just make me mad...i bet the other RP owner is the same too
so please understand the story well and read the situation...

I think that same sort of thing is mentioned in the guide. I'll go over it now and it it isn't then I'll add it in.

I changed the front post a little bit. I'm also planning to getting back into RP's, just taking part though, not starting and managing. Work is only going to slow down now that Christmas is done with so I've got a lot of free time as of late, at least until I head to college. I may make some more changes to the guide since I haven't been around the City in a while now and have probably missed new things in the lands of RP's.

do i need such thing like permission to post a new rp thread?

no, schaz, you're free to create a thread

and come to think of it, I might as well contribute by writing a tutorial about story-based RPs so people can truly develop their characters.
The way I see it now, most players don't even bother to do that, which makes their characters very... dull... like a corpse -_-;;

Intro -> cliche narration/dialogues -> proceed with the main plot -> cliche narration/dialogues -> hack & slash -> cliche narration/dialogues -> proceed

.... That's just very... wrong -_-;;

@H- true... well personally it happened to me in my previous RP days..

Oh ya one thing I may contribute about the number of RP characters

Being the Rper has the most Characters [I have 8 charcters in one RP] i have the right to say this

Every RP-er should know every character he he/she made and limitations of it

If you create many characters make sure that you can control them with the accordance of the plot

The number of the RP characters that a RP-er could have [for the new Rp-ers is 1- 2 characters]

The Veteran RP-ers could have many charactersbut most of them are only NPCs characters that revolves for the story and character development

in my experience it is a pain in the neck to control 8 characters with different jobs but i manage to pull it off.... Hehehe

by the way.....

PM the RP thread owner if you have ideas for the story or with fellow RP-ers to have the story going....

@schaz- Just make one of the rules for your RP, you can only have X number of magic skills. X number being whatever you think is a fair limit.

I just learned the hard way, that when you start a role play involving powerful characters you cannot just say " you can have X number of powers, and keep you powers realistic." You must list out all the specifics at the beginning before any newbi Role players can get power hungry and try to take the spot light.

I guess what I'm trying to say here as a general tip for beginner role players is: The plot needs to be a team effort, you can't always be the lead role. And if you do get the lead role you need to make sure the character still has personality and isn't some sort of all powerful character.

Good point Riza.

There are a few more things I need to add to the first post, so I'll include a section on that as pointed out by you. Hopefully will have that done in the next little while after my work for the Visual Novel Project is finished.

Thanks Jonathan!

Oh and sorry I remembered that you had said that teleportation bothered you. Lol, didn't mean to turn around and use it on you. My bad!

@Riza - It's just a tip, don't worry about it. Whether or not people follow it or what they make of it is entirely up to themselves.

What I am mostly referring to in my post regarding Teleportation is when people move from one location to another in a single post with no transition. People will sometimes, in the same post, move from one location to another far away without mentioning how they did it.

Actually having the ability to teleport as a method of travel is something entirely different, and whether or not that can be used is up to the person running the RP. Magical RP's are a little tricky in that sense.

Anyway, I digress.

Hey I have another tip, people need to make connections with other characters. They need to converse with one another, or develop friendships or as we have seen in a few of our current RPs characters can develop romances. If you don't create some sort of interaction between characters, the RP gets really boring and doesn't move very quickly at all.

Which brings me to an observation. Stand offish, shy, mysterious characters rarely work well in RPs (from my experience.) Unless they are willing to branch out to at least one other character.

So basically what I'm trying to say is, interact!!!!

@Rin I totally agree with you.

Although I don't RP here, I RP on a Tales of forum daily. If you don't act like the character and the relationships that the character has with other ones, it's basically butchering.

No one likes someone who butchers their character.

Already brought up, but people still seem to not do it. Usually a rule of an RP includes "ALWAYS post Place and time" Yet a lot of users dont. This cna get annoying, because when the posts start flowing in, and characters interact in different locations, and chaos breaks out, there's that one person who doesn't post where they are. And for that reason, people skip their post, thinking it doesnt have any business with then. Then, the original poster gets angry at his/her post being ignored. Leading to conflict.

Basically: ALWAYS POST YOUR PLACE AND TIME

@Anke - Taken in to consideration. I haven't seen it much myself, but I know what you mean by people who keep 'loan wolf' style characters that don't really interact with anyone else.

@Haseo - Location is an important thing to post, I agree, but time isn't something I think is necessary. I find that when people start posting time, they tend to advance it when it suits them. People start switching the time of day in their post randomly to suit their current needs and then everyone else either jumps forward to that time as well or keeps going in a completely different time. Time is something better left to the creator of the RP to run, because logically, whatever time of day it is for one character will be the time of day for all the characters (unless those characters are really really far away from each other). It's something that doesn't (or at least shouldn't) change from character to character.

@ Jon - Yeah, right now I'm lucky to be in RPs where most of the characters are interacting, but I dropped out of a few when I couldn't make anyone start interacting. Free and Dream is doing a great job with character interaction, especially the characters of Vivian and Fenris!
