@ DA: Three films? You mean Hoshi no Koe (Voices of a Distant Star), Kumo no Muko, Yakusoku no Basho (The Place Promised in our Early Days), and Byousoku 5cm (5 Centimeters per Second)? Lucky~~ Your dad is so nice, if he let you buy them. xD I've seen all three except Byousoku 5cm (of course). The animation quality is freaking nice, esp the backgrounds. The people are average, but the lighting effects and colors they can do to the background...it's simply amazing. D: I remember, I was watching Kumo no Muko, Yakusoku no Basho with my mom, and we were so absorbed in awing over how real the trees were, we forgot to pay attention to the actual movie. XD |

Nice purchases. You'll like all four films. Yep, I did just say four. I forgot to mention that "Voices of a Distant Star" DVD has a bonus short Anime called "She and Her Cat" that Shinkai did before these other three. |

This is one of anime with the best graphic i've ever see.......i really admire Shinkai for all of his works. And yeah..he seems like to create romantic anime with sad ending like in Hoshi no Koe.... Btw, i did some research and find out that some places in this anime is real, i mean it really exist ! So i assume that Shinkai tracing the photo of that places to get that very detailed background. I'm amazed on his patience since vectoring a photo with such a complex detail needs a lot of efforts..... |

T.T the animation and how detailed the movie is just simply amazing... the story's ending was a little disappointing though :/ DA, all three films??? how fortunate! |

I suggest you watch it in order to see the progress Shinkai has made throughout the years. She and Her Cat -> Voices of a Distant Star -> Promised Place -> Byousoku |

wow this one is like the better version of hoshi no koe and the promised place n our early days those movies itself are already great, this one truly a masterpiece from makoto shinkai. the story is so simple and yet very deep and realistic this interview with Makoto Shinkai help me understand this film better Q: The life-changing kiss in the first episode and the chance encounter of Takaki and Akari in the third episode; those are miraculous but we know it can happen in our daily life. But we also know what will happen ahead of life depends on each person's choices. Such a warm but painful taste in ending-sequence is only you can create, isn't it? A: The story could be finished nicely even if by happy-ending, and the story could be developed more after the ending if I want. But, when I thought about why I was making this story, I choose that ending. A movie may be required clear conclusion, but our real life never have such those things. I wanted to make my work as honest as possible to the people living in this real life now. Exceptionally, there is a possibility of miracle, like accidental reunion in daily life. That would be able to happen actually. The world is enough to include such beautiful and happy things. That was one of what I wanted to draw. this review come from the webmaster of Makoto Shinkai fan website: The title of this episode is Byousoku 5cm, 5 centimeters per second, which is the speed of cherry petal fluttering down. It comes from Akari's words in the fisrt episode, but I think the reason he selected this sentence to its title is to express our slow speed forwarding own life. It also means "the speed of a person's changing by passing of time." The cherry petals come each flower off, and go down slowly to the ground. Even if they come off from same flower, they rarely down on same spot. We can identify own life with these beautiful petals. I believe that is what Mr Shinkai poured into this story and its title.
What do you think of Planetarium?
That beautiful twinkling of eternity that will never fade, no matter when. All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.†~Yumemi Hoshino~ |

Shinkai is honest with all of his works to be honest, not just this one. You can get so much out of just "She and Her Cat" let alone Byousoku. |

I got the Shinkai collection on... Thursday or something? I bought them over to my friends house, but we were doing so many other things I was like the only one watching. So we turned it off - we'll see it some other time. So yeah, basically now I have all of 'em. I still can't wait to see all of them. I saw parts of Promised Land... and then we saw a bit of Byosoku 5CM, I saw a difference in artwork, most particularly. ------- |
