"Eyes" in anime are essentials part of it... 'cause eyes shows different emotions... and there's an old saying that "the eyes is the windows of the soul"... truely, the eyes conveys many emotions that why it was been highlighted in anime...

Hm...I dunno, maybe because Japanese girls don't have big eyes...so they're looking for something different?

I heard it is because Japanese don't have big eyes. They like big eyes, so they draw them... But I don't know if this is true...

I'd choose to be a daisy, If I might be a flower, Closing my petals softly At twilight's quiet hour; And waking in the morning, When falls the early dew, To welcome Heaven's bright sunshine, And Heaven's bright teardrops, too.

maybe because japs have smaller eyes, and their fantasy is to make them big. hehe... i thought of this because some people use their fiction/s to become what they dream of or to have what they can't.

i don't have pretty eyes, so whenever i draw anime characters, i emphasize their eyes and work hours on the pair's details including their eyebrows. maybe, that's just theory.

it makes them look innocent, and it goes well with many characters.

It's all for animation style.
While different titles and different artists have their own unique artistic styles, many stylistic elements have become extremely common. Some examples have become so common that they are often described as being definitive of anime in general, and have been given names of their own. The most common is the large eyes style drawn on many anime characters, common mainly due to the influence of Osamu Tezuka, who was inspired by the exaggerated features of Western cartoon characters such as Betty Boop and Mickey Mouse and from Disney's Bambi. Tezuka found that large eyes allowed his characters to better express their emotions. Some Western audiences have interpreted such stylized eyes as more Caucasian. Cultural anthropologist Matt Thorn argues that Japanese animators and audiences do not perceive them as inherently more or less foreign. [2] When Tezuka began drawing Ribbon no Kishi, the first manga specifically targeted at young girls, Tezuka further exaggerated the size of the characters' eyes. Indeed, through Ribbon no Kishi, Tezuka set a stylistic template that later shōjo artists tended to follow. Another variation of this style is "chibi" or "super deformed"; which usually feature huge eyes, an enlarged head, and small body.

According to my opinion, some characters from anime have big eyes, because big eyes can express the feelings that the characters felt, easily, such as crying, sad, happy, smile, angry, and so on... ^ ^

I have 2 thoughts right now...

It is either they follow tradition from the drawings of Tezuka OR the eyes express the feelings of the characters more... ^^
