I thought Neon Genesis Evangelion and RahXephon have the most complicated plots I have seen so far.

Re: ...most complicated plot...

Serial Experiments Lain was a challenging one to follow the first run through, as was RahXephon, but Evangelion was pretty simple to grasp the first time I watched it. |

texhnolyze gankutsuou princess tutu eva ok, these animes are not so complicated if the main idea has been seen, what makes it complicated is that it has so many twists and how the anime presents itself^_^ |

Ghost In The Shell: Stand ALone Complex & 2nd GIG. These can get pretty complicated, and if you have not seen episodes before, it's easy to get lost. Try to understand the "Laughing Man" halfway into the first season.
You know, I really don't have a signature.

Evangelion (sounds nearly unanimous) and Air for me XD |
Re: ...most complicated plot...

Much as I love Fullmetal Alchemist, it is by far not the most complex of plots. That award would have to go to Boogiepop Phantom, by far. Serial Experiments Lain is just...weird. Yes, it has many layers of hidden meaning, but there's also a layer of just weirdness. I'm sure some people would argue that for Boogiepop Phantom, but I would disagree there (having watched the entire series and the movie 1000 x a rediculously large number of times). |

as much as i agree with RahXephon and lain having a complicated storyline. eva just takes the cake. it gets really weird from ep 18 to the end. |
Re: ...most complicated plot...

I must say... Evangelion so far, i can't really understand the story near the ending of the series... The End of Evangelion wrapped the story up pretty much but still there are things i don't understand, so yah... it's Eva |

Definitely the most complicated anime in terms of plot would be Full Metal Alchemist, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Texhnolyze, Boogiepop Phantom, and Serial Hunter Lain. All of these anime gave me brain tumors the first time I tried to decipher their plots, whether they be abstract concepts (Texhnolyze, Serial Hunter Lain, Boogiepop Phantom), psychological problems (Neon Genesis Evangelion), or just plot complexity (Full Metal Alchemist).
You need a reason to be sad. You don't need a reason to be happy. The secret to happiness is to face the fact that the world is horrible.

for those who have watched this but didn't pick it... well Ghost in the Shell: SAC and SAC 2nd gig, to me is the most complicated plot, perhaps a genius plot ever to rise. for me it was easy to follow along the thin line back in the laughing man and the individaul 11. you'll catch the plot if you try to read between the lines, or so they say... well the rest of the animes that i've watched so far was easy to crack, after finishin each episodes, i work on it backwards. try it! it really works! well for those who didn't understand a single thing on that anime... check your brains... hahahahaha!!!! |
