To memory....
Link | by DaedalusMachina on 2006-03-22 21:57:27
This thread is dedicated to memory.

I've recently parted ways with a friend of mine due to an unforgivable mistake of mine. I will cherish the good memories I had, I will never forget the grave mistake that I made, and I will learn from this and move on in a different way.

Memories may seem like both curse and blessing at times, but they are always a blessing. The good memories you cherish in life, the bad memories you learn from. In either case, they make you a stronger person as a whole. If you take what you should from them, you'll grow into the person that you want to be.

Wallowing forever in the past, however, is not a good thing. You don't grow, you don't move forward, and you never learn. I found this quotation, and I thought it very wise and appropriate: "Memories are good but thats all they are, memories... Nothing more, nothing less." I have no idea who said it, but it seems correct to me. You can take from memories, but you can't live in them.

*raises glass* Here's to memory. The good... and the bad.

Now, lets hear some memories from you guys. What memories do you have that are always at the back of your mind, always pushing you to become stronger and better?

I think the qoute is from Riku-FF10

anyhoo,i'm not a person to dwell in the past, not to mention i've avoided any possibility of feeling the pain you are going through.

But remember,if you don't learn from those memories, both good and bad,you won't of moved past at all.

Not to mention this old saying,"The more things change, the more things stay the same."

Pain isn't always a bad thing. I'd rather feel pain then nothing at all. At least I'd know I'm still alive.

I'm not so much talking about sharing memories and dwelling in them as... sharing defining moments. What made you say "I'm never going to do that again," or "I'm going to do it this way from now on," or "I will never leave this person" etc.

*shrugs* I got that quote from the signature of a long dead (I hope not literally) user of THIS site. I don't know where he/she got it. Sounds like a logical place, though.

I agree that if you don't learn from memories, you never did move past.

Literally pain isn't a bad thing, but emotional pain,is something I would like to avoid at all cost, although that may not be possible.

[is it just me or are we like the only posters on this late?]

I was talking more about emotional pain that I was about physical pain, actually. It is possible to avoid emotional pain completely, just don't give a damn about anything. Never think about anything of any value, and for that matter, never put a value on anything.

Life is a game, you win and you lose. Somebody who always loses hasn't learned how to win. Somebody who always wins has never really appreciated the game.

I'm on -.-;

Memory is a beautiful thing; this thread makes me think of the Black Knight from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles; due to something I don't wanna get into, he lost all memory of himself and everything he knew or loved. And if you are alone at the time you lose that memory, then you don't know who you are, who your family is, or anything at all. So what meaning does anything have at that point, when you no nothing of your own self and you're alone?

And I thought of a simplified conversation from Tales of Symphonia...

If I could go back in time, I'd...
No! We should never change the past, because the past made us who we are. (just think, if you went back in time and changed something, then in the future you would not have learned from it because it didn't happen in the first place.) What happens in the past makes us who we are, and our memories help us learn from our mistakes. I'm sorry, but I can't let someone as strong as you talk like that.
No, I'm sorry for being so illogical. Thank you...

And pain is a good thing. I'm starting to overuse this sword thing, I hear it everywhere, but I like it so :P
A sword may be strong, but to get strong it has to burn and hammered. So how much hammering are you taking? What kind of sword will you be after all of it is over?

Bloody sweet, and from my experience from ToS, that sounds like a convo between Lloyd and Kratos(or Raine, I'm betting this, now). Damn nice game.

*cough* Lloyd and Raine *cough*

I didn't know you played it... you don't play it as much as me, I'll bet, I got over 200 hours logged ^_^
..and after I get a new TV, it'll get even higher...

*back on topic*

In regard to your last post before this one, I must say that I don't care a whole lot about stuff. Sure, I do care, but not a whole ton... I'm like one of those duggie dudes that don't care about anything, but I'm optmistic XD
And I have my own answer to this, but I would like to hear yours: how do you win in life?

*off topic*
*shrugs* Maybe you do, I've beaten it once on a rental, then bought the game and beat it three more times consecutively, then I got bored when I couldn't think of any different way to play it. ... Yeah, I probably have around 200 hours, probably a little less.

Still off topic, *narrows eyes at you* I have no damn idea how to win at life. My guess is you learn and develop from your wins and losses (the smaller things in life), and never forget the events that made you that way, so that you never stray from the path.

*on topic*
This is about events that changed you, and memories that you keep to remind you to stay on a certain path. Share them with us! :D

Memories? I wish I didn't forget so many things...sigh
When people talk about how I was in the past it's strange because I couldn't remember almost all of it, even if it was the things that happened only a month ago...
The only thing I remember from my childhood was about a strange dream and the rest is a blur...

How to win at life (all opinion, of course, there's no real facts for something like this):
After you've died, people think you've lost. However, if you die and either no one cares, people are happy you're gone, or the people you know are sad and have always been sad, that's when you lose. If you die, and people are sad that you're gone and the world is a happier place because of you, then you've won.

I can hardly remember what I've had for breakfast, what I learned is school, or anything else, really. Yet I can remember scenes from Mega Man X when I played it for the first time when I was like 3 or 4. Annoying, it is...

And Dragon Knight, the bad memories are more important than good ones (once again, opinion XD). If all we had were good memories, then how would we learn from them?

A Toast to memories! And a toast to the memories we forget! (which is probaly around 90% of them)

I love that sword quote, I will remeber it. Especially the part about the sword.

How to win the game of life?

Well, I set myself a goal in life and if I achieve it I win. It really doesn't matter if other people think you lost, because its your own life. Follow your own rules and complete your life with style.

Now one can tell you how to win at life, because life is different for each.

If my life was like a game, it would be like hide and seek. I win once I find the right person.

To Sachiel and DragonKnight: Both bad memories and good memories are important. You learn from the bad ones and you get more motivation from the good ones.

I have few memories to mention. One of them is a thing that happened to me in school (it's posted in the Worst thing done in School thread in case somebody wants to read it) the other ones are more important to me. I have good ones that make my life worth living and I have bad ones that also keep me going.

As for how to win the game of life: Easy, just live it and enjoy every moment possible.

I actually get more motivation out of bad memories than good ones. The memories that push me to be better are the ones in which I failed something or someone. The good ones remind me of what I had, and what I have. In some ways, the good memories ARE the bad memories, the things that I had... and lost. Those are particularly painful.

I agree with Sachel's ideas on winning at life. It sorta goes along the lines of "to be forgotten is a fate worse than death" in some regards.
