People in our country philippines majority of people are kids teenagers the elderly ones say "hey you are 19 years old why are watching those cartoons" (its kinda insulting if someone refer anime as cartoons right") I'D say " hey you old geezer ANIME are Way too cool than those "TELENOVELA" "Besides What you Are watching and What i'm watching are both scripted that' only thing in common nothing else everything on your side are just CRAP" ENCANTADIA SUCKS IT SENDS SHIVER TO MY SPINE damn i hate my country i wish i could live in japan

lol well i live in the U.S. and it's relatively the same. most ppl refer to anime as "cartoons"...and yes i do think that's insulting because anime is more artistic.....most directors, animatiors, voice actors, etc...puts their souls into anime series, unlike most cartoon series which is just there for kid entertainment.but no matter which way u look @ it, anime is cartoons, it just happens to be in a whole new ball park than ordinary, regular cartoons. anyways here in the U.S. ppl do have respect for anime...a lotta teens and over enjoy watching anime. however, in japan i think anime is more respected because it's seen as a work of literary genius/merit or beautiful art. cuz while japanese ppl actually try to create new stories and new ways of creating visual images, we're too lazy and decide to give it our full 40% instead of 110% ~! :) .lol. when ppl tell me anime is just for kids....i simply explain to them that they are greatly mistaken. I tell them the differences between mere cartoons and anime. Besides, even if anime seems to favor the "youthful" side, what is wrong with that? what i like is what i like..what u like is what u like....who cares what other ppl think or tell u~!
i have nothing to say besides school is gay~!

I agree. I have alot of people tell me anime is just for kids and not adults. I say anime is for everyone basically, but in Japan is more geared to teens/adults if you see the origional versions to some anime. I say any age can watch anime. I will be watching it when I am old. I know that for sure ^_^ |

It wouldn't make me mad, i'm 23 and when someone says that to me (mainly some of my friends)it just shows me how narrow minded a person can be. anime has a wide selection for just about anyone. they just have to give it a try. my gf didn't like anime but then i was like "just give it a chance" so i showed her FMP Fumoffu and she liked it. it all depends who the target audience is. to me anime can be just a cartoon and it can be animated life. so im not gonna lie i just enjoy watching anime, be it real life issues or just plain silliness.  |

I think anime is not for kids. There are evem some anime that are rated 16+ and has mature content. XD By the way, there's already a thread very similar to this one. |

When I was reading the berserk manga, my mom walked in and saw one page of it. Akward experience, I think she knows how "childish" this anime can really be. The "childish" represents what chapter I was on and what my mom saw also. Very disturbing. Don't read Berserk.  Jomunga eats your avatars. |

some people don't really know what "anime" actually is. the lack of knowledge might cause ignorant comments. there are some parts of the anime which can be considered as "just for kids", but i doubt that we can therefore make an absolute conclusion that anime are just for kids. it's like saying "the subway is extremely dangerous because terrorists have once bombed it, and so we shouldn't use it". you know what i mean? say, this thread sure sounds familiar.

I'm from the Philippines too. Yes, its true that adults said that anime is just for kids. But, why are their gory animes like Elfen Lied, Evangelion and some other gory animes? Is it for kids also to watch it? Is anime really for kids? I think not. Imagine a kid watching bloody anime, then his/her mom stopped him/her watch this things because its too violent for him/her. @RAYE I know u hate telanovelas but some of them started as an anime. The telanoveals like Full House, Sassy Girl and Meteor Garden are anime before. I don't actually watch these things but its true that their inspiration of making this telanovela was made from an anime.
