could love be found online?
Link | by Fuji-kun-chan on 2006-03-12 00:40:49
I am just wondering. Can you find true love, by just chatting through the internet. It' kind of silly, because every relationship needs interaction (especially offline)the sense of being there. I want to know your opinion. thanks

For me it is possible but with great differences as those happening offline...

News right now, gossips from everwhere and even in front of you... you see such people finding dates online..most of them are successfull but though has less trust..
One main reason for my view point is that
-You never met the person personally and you are uncertain with the attitudes he is showing you online with the mind-sets he will gonna illustrate you when the time comes that you too will meet. Meeting and being with a person personally for almost all of his/her life would give you the idea on knowing that person more deeply and sentimentally.

Though for me love is better in personal contact..

yeah, it's a pice of cake, i once did, but the guy happened to be too much, jeez. It's hard to find love in special love romances chats or something instead of Yahoo or something, then it's much more easier

Um...no, because you don't get to feel "true love" just by chatting on the net. There's a difference between actual and online dates.

And out into the sea of infinity?

You know, I had an assignment about this just a few days ago for English class. We had to have a debate. My side was for the statement "True love can be found online" and the other side was against. My side won the debate. I could go through all the points my side made to win the debate if you want.

Its pretty hard for me to recall all of it so that's why I'm asking if you're interested in hearing it. If not, I'm not gonna waste my energy =P

My older sister met her current husband via random chat on icq. They've been happily married for 3 years now. So it IS possible, but do be careful, seeing as he lives in another country and back then I thought it was weird she suddenly decided to take a trip to New Zealand. He's quite the gentleman so it was a happy ending (he moved to our country to live with her).

I think that you can find true love in internet. However should be more careful cause you have no idea what kind of person he/she might be...

Sure you can, but there are many who arent who they seem. Often there will be girls that are guys, its just plain messed up. I see the internet as being a place where people all around the world can interact, share and experience things together. I dont see why you cant, but id rather find love with someone in person, its becomes more intimate and real, unlike staring at a flat picture of your girlfriend that might not even be the real thing. It depends really on the individual, whether you prefer to actually do things physically, or just webcam/chat etc.. Dating over the internet can be quite risky, hence my values are against it.

Those who think they know everything annoy those who actually do.

Sure, it's possible, but there's a limit to how much you can feel for a person you have never met. I would know, I'm going through such a thing now. Do I love her... probably, but I've never met her, so I really can't tell. (If she's false, then it's a conspiracy, as there are about 5 different people who acknoledge her reality. If it is a conspiracy, she's all the more cool to me. Sick, but cool.)

Yes, you can meet somebody over the net, meet in person later, date, and fall in love, it's very possible, it's been done thousands of times before, and it can work.

You're love for somebody, I think, is limited to the medium you have for communication. If your medium is text, you can only love what they write. You can't see their eyes, notice their movements, hear their voice, smell them, anything. You're limiting yourself to only one sense, and even then, all you see is a bunch of words.

I belive that the answer is divided into two categories: 1 being acually dating on-line, 2 being meeting somone and dating them off-line.

In the case of 1 you miss out on some of the interactions, things like the subltle changes in posture, facial movements, and other sub-concious signals that tell you more than words on a page. By no means does this mean that love is not possible, you just lose out on some of the interconnectedness. In some ways it can actually benifit you. Such as concentrating on what the other person is saying and not other "distractions." You can then feel more attached to the other person, because you can understand what they are saying fully.

In the case of 2 there is the presence of the other person. This means that you can read the person better, and there is more of an understanding of what the other person is saying. When you speak in-person the brain assumes various segements of a line of speech when processing it. This means that you never really hear the entire line. You only process the main ideas, and the periphery ideas are disgarded. This also means you never fully listen to what the other person is saying, in essence your brain acts as zip file. If you were to mix both on-line and off-line interactions then the disadvantages of both cancel each other out. Meaning that it is more than possible, it is better.

Of course it's possible. People don't fall in love with eachother instantly. It takes time to fall in love and to get to know eachother. Besides, if there's will theres always a way (That sounded so cheesey!^_^)

I personally dont believe so... If so, it probably wont last very long? most people aren't themselves online. the way i for example talk on msn is different from real life. i talk much more on msn and also, you never know what the other person is thinking, or personality is like. if you like them for what they are online, it might b diff in real life.

It's possible, but you have to be careful to make sure that person isn't really psycho or crazy person.

Uhmm.. I didn't expect many would post on this thread.

I guess its not possible.

Many have pointed their opinions. I must agree with dirtyninja, there are two cases: 1 being acually dating on-line, 2 being meeting somone and dating them off-line. Will you fall in love to a person you dont even know? a complete stranger. Meeting someone online, then dating offline then falling inlove is different from dating online then falling inlove. I don't think its safe, it could be risky. Some people arent themselves online. I must agree with the others.

Also there's nothing wrong on dating online, but sooner you'll have to date them offline to strengthen your bonds. see after you met that special person online, you have to know that person offline, then you can say you've fallen in love with that special person.

I respect all your opinions. there are no reason for debating over this topic. I am just conveying opinions.

L<3ve is better in personal contact. <~ I must agree with this.
