download problem?...
Link | by kittykat on 2006-02-22 18:06:34
I'm sorry for being a pain; I realize many postings are on this subject but I haven't quite found one that helps.....I think...*gulp*
When I try to download I get a "You don't have permission to open this file" (for the 1st Microsoft option, right-click)...Is this the same as "Access Denied?" I went to the FAQ but my computer isn't following the 2nd option(left-click) to downloading.
.............Sorry again for being dumb ^.^*second gulp*

Just curious, which file?
Might be some kind of copyright protection.

I honestly have no idea...I tried again but nothing happened (differently). I might ask tomorrow in school if anyone downloads in general though. Maybe it's just the computer...?

So you get the error when you try to start the download? Not when you try to open the file after you finish downloading it?

Yes, I think that's it...It won't let me start to download.

Is it only at that computer? Is it at school? I'm assuming you are downloading from a computer at school and it's quite possible the admin (or teacher who runs the network at school) has removed that function thus explaining the permission not granted or access denied error. If you can download properly at home or at a friend's house I think that's the problem.

If you don't have internet access at home, I can download it and send it to you via Skype or MSN ^_^

Then again, you might have internet access at home or not have Skype or MSN, but I'll try to help XD

Actually, the problem started at home. But you're right, the school won't download anything either (it would hardly load this site), and everyone I asked gave me the "You are crazy in the upper story" look. Could it be that because we got a faster version of the Internet, with upgraded protection, no downloading is allowed?....
...
I'm sorry that I'm a dunce at the computer.
And, thanks for the offer on MSN!.........Umm, how is it sent via MSN?? ^o^<-me, quite stupid ^_^

It's sent via the instant message windows on MSN as when you are talking to someone. At the top of your message window, click on "File > Send a file or photo...", then browse through the folders on your computer to the file you want to send then click open. Wait for the person you are talking to accept and the file starts to transfer. All you have to do is make sure you aren't firewalled and that's really all there is to it with transfering files on MSN. Make sure you have a MSN account first though :D

Well also make sure you know what is being sent as viruses can spread this way too. :(

Click here if you don't have MSN. It's free, and many people use it, so it's a good thing to get it XD

Thanks for the MSN info! My brother says he can help (which is more of a great maybe ^^) so I'll see what he can do. I thought we were part of MSN but now I'm not sure because I don't remember instant message windows. Maybe it was "WANTED to get MSN"...
So I'll get him and report back soon!! (which will hopefully be soon but I never know with my computer skills ^__^)

Ok, I think I semi-got it, the file popped up in Jukebox. Err...Is that what I want? What do I do now? Jukebox is my brother's thing and he *sigh* won't tell me anything about it......^^I really am a technology dunce.....
But HUZZAH!!!! If this works, then 21 "downloads" later I really will have learned how!!!!

There's several types of Jukeboxes out there, basically it's a music playing program for your computer. Well if you can download now that's good, just make sure that the jukebox isn't streaming the files. I'm just assuming that from your comment about popping up. If you aren't getting an error I guess it's okay and not streaming. Have fun!

Yeah, go ahead and post again. But if you were the last person to post, then edit your old one to save Gendou a little bit of bandwidth costs ^_~

If you want, we can email each other and that way and can stop worrying so much ^_^

Ok, thanks for the tip!
And as to the email idea, I'm sticking my reply on "an antisocial kittykat" so I don't get in trouble for the off topic thing....don't know if it is o.t. but am scared if so...^^

Edit: I still evidently have the problem, thought I was over it...
But, it works on my friend's computer. Is my problem then only with my computer??
Edit(again): I don't know how, but I think it's working!!!!!!! HUZZAH!!!!!! 30 downloads later, AND I GET MY FAVORITE SONG ^O^!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who helped me and posted :)......if anyone sees this ^^.....<3

Will "save target as" just not come up as an option when you right-click?
