If you people have a heart, then go here, if you can stomach it. It's a video of factory farms, and what goes on there is simply... horrific. *is slowly going vegan... bye bye orange chicken and pizza T.T* After that, if you feel like you want to change it, click here. |
Re: Meet Your Meat

Not only do I have a heart, but I've eaten heart before. Its pretty tough, but its got alot of flavour. (It was moose heart, to be exact)

what about the thousands of vegtables that get slaughtered each day because of vegetarians? LOL just kidding, does look grusome though... |
Re: Meet Your Meat

I couldn't watch it all. I like Alec Baldwin too. Personally I think that was the extremes of it, but I do think slaughter houses are cruel.

There's no way that's how every single one is, but that's the gist of it. Now, to parry several arguments I've heard: 1: I need protein! There's protein in aallll sorts of veggies and stuff. Just because meat is the best source of it does not mean that it's the only good source. Also, many middle-aged people actually get too much protein without trying to, so don't worry about it. 2: Animals kill other animals, so it's all fine! Animals kill each other because it's needed for them to live; humans kill animals because: A: it makes money B: wearing animal's fur looks nice C: it's fun D: they taste better than other stuff You can do something else in all of that right there. You can get another job, you can wear cotton, you get your fill of killing in Halo, and there are vegan foods that taste good as well. We have alternatives: animals don't. 3: If you're gonna say that killing animals is bad, then what about war, rape, and other murders? War: People go to war and kill each other of their own choice; animals have no choice. They are like that their whole lives, against their will. Rape: This is a horrible thing that should NEVER be done under ANY circumstance. This is not right or useful in any way, never do it. Murder: This largely fits in with rape, though rape is worse. Personally, I say that everything I mentioned should be done away with, but there's no way that's gonna happen. 4: This is only a few people, we're never gonna fix the whole problem with just us, so why even try? I don't know about you, but I try because every time I ate orange chicken at Panda Express, pizza from Little Caesar's, or chocolate milk from the store, I was eating and drinking animal's lives. In a sense, I'm no better than the people that kill them whenever I did that. I am now going to stop, or if not stop then drastically decrease how much I do it. What I said there also goes for any of you. You drink milk, eat meat, etc., put yourself in the above paragraph. You got any other arguments, I'll gladly listen to it. |
Re: Meet Your Meat

like a said before, nobody thinks of the helpless vegetables that get slaughted each day...they don't have a chance either, aren't they living beings? Lol,anyway,I agree that there is protein is in veggies, but its not just protien, humans have been proven to actually need meat to procreat the species. I'm neutral on this subject, personally i'd be fine if we switched to veggies, but I don't see that happening soon. Got any pointer's on a veggie diet Sachiel? |

I thought you were kidding about the veggies... But see, they don't really live. They grow and move to get more light, yes, but they don't see, hear, or really feel. The main thing involved with this whole thing is the pain. May I ask where you found this "proof"? And also, it's not necessarily a veggie diet. There's still all of those processed foods you can eat (like oriential flavored ramen form the top ramen brand, pringles, etc.), and there are meat substitutes. If you'd rather still ahve meat, at least get it at Wild Oats ^_^ Edit: BECAUSE I NEED AS MANY PEOPLE TO SEE THIS AS POSSIBLE. ...WHY AM I TALKING IN CAPS? |
Re: Meet Your Meat

*laughs* nice Sachiel that made my night! Edit: BECAUSE I NEED AS MANY PEOPLE TO SEE THIS AS POSSIBLE. ...WHY AM I TALKING IN CAPS? Did you hear about the people who's baby died from malnutrition? They were Veagan (sorry bout spelling...) and fed their baby only coconut milk and it died. If it did actually survive it probably would have been severly brain damaged. There was also some other kids to that were malnutritioned. I feel bad for the kids, who wouldn't?

That's because those people have no brain. It's a well-known fact that babies need their mother's milk to survive. And I'm all for being un-vegan if it's like that; a necessity to survive. If I was gonna die of starvation if I didn't eat a steak, I'd eat a steak. And if it's a mom giving their kid some milk, well duh give it to him/her. You got a brain, use it >_< |

I WAS just kidding about the "helpless littel vegtables" LOL The meat and procreating thing came from some book in health class. |

SAME WITH THE BAN STUPID PEOPLE PETITION, AND THAT WAS STICKIED BY GENDOU. And for Kotuso... What's in meat that makes it needed? You can get nutrition from other things that aren't meat, as meat doesn't have exclusive nutrition (to my knowledge) |
Re: Meet Your Meat

the meat helps produce Testosterone I think. That was pretty dated health book. But i'm neutral really. |

What an interesting thread... Rather than voicing my true opinion, I shall play devils advocate, since few seem to support meat. I suppose what we're saying here is that we should refrain from eating meat...unless it's absolutely necessary...in other words, inevitably, we'll have to consume it to some degree, and as Kotuso so eloquently put it, I don't see much change in the future anyway... The important principle of this country is freedom, sadly we also inherited a stubborn rebllious attitude. By this I mean, if there was an edict saying: "No more extreme meat consumption", would people: a.peacefully agree, b.be slightly annoyed but still agree or, c.argue and b**** regardless of whether or not they truly care about the topic. The obvious answer is c Another thing, trying to dissuade meat consumption is a seemingly noble cause, in the sense that already domesticated animals who serve little purpose regardless would be spared the mild pain of a quick death in favor of being consumed or killed in the wild by predators. If, for example, we released all captive farm animals, would you be happy to see them wandering around doing little? On a lighter note, many of them would seek revenge on their captives. Although yes, you can get nutrition from other sources, does anyone truly care? Do smokers care whether or not their next light contains more vitamins than chewing tobacco? No not really. Why do you think America is easily the fattest country in the world? We KNOW we could have a healthy meal anytime, but we also KNOW that McDonalds is closer, easier, and serves as an empty substitute to companionship. Basically, people are stupid. Very stupid. Man has consumed meat since the beginning of time. A vegan lifestyle is noble, but doesn't seem to appeal to very many at all. Rather than blame meat, lets blame human stupidity. Yep. I still eat meat myself, like 80% or more of the American population, however, I always mix a healthy salad with whatever meat I have. I think compromise is fairer and more reasonable than outright intolerance. Hope this helps? ^_^ |

i think there are many things that helps produce testosterone but meat is easily available and it is like having a combo meal where you get all the nutrient you needed in one meal. Oh sachiel! I've been to that type of factory before and recovering from that really takes a long time, now that i saw it again...oh...no... >_< edit:is fish a type of meat?they don't bleed, have no fur and they can't scream, oh and 75000 pledges is really hard to get before march 5. ![]() |

true, but to make up the nutrient imbalance that is caused by ceasing to eat meat you would have to consume vast and i mean vast amount of particlar fruits and veg to make up, or go on suppliment pills, also, i'm kinda against those who are in line with that PETA organisation, the almost ruined one of australia's best exports, wool

Re: Meet Your Meat

Eating vegetables is far worse than eating animals. Agricultural land is needed to grow plants, so hundreds of thousands of hectares of habitat is bulldozed. This leads to animals dying due to starvation because of competition with other animal species for food. It also causes thousands of species of plants to be destroyed because that have been deemed useless towards human life. The pesticides and fertilizers used to get big juicy veggies cause increased soil erosion. The chemicals are also washed into waterways, which leads to destruction of marine habitat and a loss of marine life. Clear cutting trees for agricultural land also causes global climate change. Trees are the biggest producers of oxygen. They do this by converting carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. If there are no trees, the carbon dioxide builds up in the atmosphere and keeps longwave radiation from leaving our atmosphere, which causes increases in global temperatures. So, by eating meat, controlled species of animals are harvested and don't go extinct. By eating vegetables, hundreds of species of animals are killed, or forced to adapt to smaller habitats; thousands of species of plants go extinct; and the planet is damaged severely.

after seeing that short clip,i'm thinking that's too cruel for words >.< some of the animal had their throat slit of and is left to die.the country should REALLY change their policy on slaughter houses. i'm not sure about this but i think one of the reasons why more and more deadly deasease are appearing might because of the conditions those animals are living in.(Think about the current bird flu,SARS and MCD,most of them came from poultry animals don't they?) i'm not turning v-gen since i know how my meat is slaughtered.an extremely sharp blade is used to completely cut their head off so that the animal won't feel much or any pain when being slaughtered.it's one of my religion's rule to use a extremely sharp blade to slaughter animals for food.and their living conditions seems relaxing as well. but i must say something must be done for those kinds of animals living in cramped and stressful places, without knowing freedom.it too inhumane!! |

This is causing a lot more controversy han I thought... It appears either people live in countris where this doesn't go on, or they just don't care. Honestly, if you're in America, you are being selfish by not signing that petition or going vegan. Which seems more important to you? Eating something that tastes good/wearing some cool clothes or what goes on in those places? It seems like if you really have a heart, then what you should do should be simple. Just do it, it's really not that hard. |
