i dont have any particular beef with the day but i think its a valid basis for discussion and critique. i posted this because i noticed that ppl were kind of hinting the darker aspect of this international phenomenom and ppl can be prepared to have their bubble burst as riceboks mentioned in another thread

darker aspect?probably this falls under people who don't have anybody special to them, and that includes me.i just regard it as another passing day aka, just another 24 hours of time(make that 23hrs57min) per day. guess people get jealous when they see other people being all lovey dovey and stuff... |

It's up to people to judge if valentines sucks or not. For some lovers, valentine days might be good, and romantic..etc.. But maybe for the people sho-have-not-yet find their lovers, it might be suck because all they do is might be just, stare at the couples, and hoping that they will soon find their love... |

Instead of staring at couples.... why dont people just DO something. Like either FIND someone or just do NORAML things like they do on NORMAL days. ![]() |

Exactly my sentiments sero, just do what one always does. Valentines is just a day like any other that some ppl chose to designate as a "day of love" but its probably also popular becuase its part of the capatalistic scheme of things to make more money off of everyone with something everyone wants at one point or another, love and the joy of sharing your life with another.

What I don't like about valentines day is because it IS just like every other day. It shouldn't be. I should be able to spend the day with someone I love, but the day is bias. Only people in love get to have fun. Lonely people can just sit in the corner yearning for what cannot be theirs. |

Its just like christmas or halloweeen, some people choose to celebrate it and some people don't. I believe one shouldn't live in fear of this day. If you really wanted jomunga, you could make a cardboard cut out and give it cash and roll it into a store, make it buy some chocolates and give them to you. Or you just have fun regardless, really, don't let bliss ruin your day.^_^ |

yes, valentine's day is a day for love. but it does it only have to pertain to people IN love? how about for people who love their friends, family, etc? while i was single i spent many a valentine's day with my friends and still had lots of fun. and i agree with kotuso-san about it being just like other holidays. |

Thank GOODNESS that the readers of this post [thusfar] are taking a more positive spin on the holiday. Last year, I spent a half hour reading all of the whiny, teen-angsty, wallowing-in-self-pity posts that were clogging my friend's page. It seems my peers were more content feeling bad for themselves and, rather foolishly, blaming the corporate world and every person of the opposite [or same] gender for their impatience or previous bad experiences. I have a very even temper, and I consider myself very hard to anger. However, I was frustrated enough to draft an angry retort to their Friend's pages. "What pisses me off about Valentine's Day is not the fact that I'm single, but the fact that everyone else in the world that is single sees it fit to rant, whine, complain, and blame Hallmark for the holiday. To me, that seems arrogant, as well as compeltely against the point of the holiday - to show others that you love them. Get over yourself and realize that maybe, just maybe, the continuation of mankind does not rest on your selfish need to be "in love" or in a "relationship". Show someone else that you love them instead of waiting for it to come to you. Yes, I'm single. Yes, I do have a "love interest". No, I don't think it will ever be two-sided. No, I'm not letting it get me down just because it's Valentine's Day. Happy Valentines Day, darlings. I honestly and truly love you all. Really" The info is a bit out of date [I'm now engaged!], but the point still remains. Just.... ugh. Wangsty Valentine's Day rants make my skin crawl. |

If valentines day is just another day, then what about all those other days of the year like mothers day, fathers day, groundhog day, dia de la familia,...? Of course they were made just so that people would spend their money on either useless or unwanted gifts but, don't the people we care and love for deserve a special day? I actually think that we should show our love for everybody all the time but if I can do it at least one day of the year without looking corny then that's okay for me. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

yeah, i agree with Mako Valentine's day is not a day for lovers ONLY its a day to celebrate LOVE love means family and friends too so, dont be miserable on Valentine and treat your loved ones just to show them how you love and care for them!^_^ |

Kotuso, good advice but I think that would only make me more depressed. |

shouldn't we be mourning this day? (hehehehe.....) st. valentine died this day so that hallmark can sell chocolates and flowers. ---------------------------------- anyway valentines in just like any other day the difference is that lovers can express their feelings for another person as much as they can to make him/her feel special.(just like everyday they spend together) ------------------------------------ i agree with mako and angel yuki, why not spend the day with your friends last feb. 14 my friends filled my inbox with so many valentine greetings every lunch time, we indulge ourselves with the chocolate we recieved from our suitors. (i think i gained a pound that day. hehehehe.....)
