what is firewall ? my com had it i use McAfee antivirus & Ad Aware SE personal it detected firewall what shall i do? is firewall harmful? PLEASE HELP ME!!! this is the second time i reformat my computer PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure it's a sort of anti-hacker wall. I know it's something that you wanna have... Try googling it, and hope it helps ^_^  |

| Dont worry, firewall is there to protect you from virus and hackers. Windows comes with a basic firewall and most routers also have one. I don't know (or want to) explain it too technically, but it's not harmful. |

Norton Antivirus is one example of a firewall or a program that protects your computer from "bad stuff" (i.e. viruses, intrusions, other evil things) in simple terms. Now you say your computer detects a firewall, what exactly do you mean by detects a firewall? Do you mean you see a little window pop up when you start up your computer saying it's a firewall? or is it whenever you go online your computer can't do something because of a firewall? Neither situation is a bad thing (so don't worry), they're just signs that whatever firewall you have running on your computer is doing its job.

ohh thanx i'm not very sure cause i use McAfee anti virus it has certain stuff that i don't really understand at all now every time i scan my computer system surely have at least 10 or more critical objects what shall i do after i quarantine & delete it? when i open the quartine file they still have it what should i do?

^^Most likely I think you have spyware. Go download "hijackThis" and post your logs. But you must first visit the link below and read through everything. You don't have to read everything. You can stop at where it says "How to interpret the scan listings" http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=42#HowToUse I suggest you follow the instructions thorougly before doing anything. After you've followed the instructions and saved your logs, post it up here and I'll try my best to help. I've heard good reviews of hijackThis, I use it occasionally if I can't solve a problem myself.

A firewall is basically a program that you can use to manage what information comes in and out of your computer from the net... there are alot of good firewalls out there... I suggest searching and asking around for a decent one... Every computer should have a firewall, Anti-virus, and some spyware detection programs to atleast try to prevent malicious programs from entering your system... I make it a habit to scan once/twice a week If you are sort of sick with virus attacks... you can go to Linux OS... but its abit more complex than Windows OS... There are sometimes spywares or infected files that cannot be deleted/cleaned because the files are in use... just turn off every other program when scanning... if it still says it can't delete the file... the infected file may be a system file... (ouch...) usually this can be solved by activating the scan as you start up your computer... (numerous antivirus programs have this function... and usually prompts you to let it run at startup if it can't delete the file...) Critical Objects... hmm... i think your computer OS may have corrupt files...  Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

| Linux is the best OS around. Viruses and any other malicious things in the net cannot penetrate it, so it is really safe to use it. Linux (and FreeBSD) is used by most of the web servers around the world, even microsoft use it! |

Are you just simplifying things for the less informed? or are you serious? Because Linux isn't impenetrable or invincible, nor is it easy for newbs to use. I know it's not impenetrable because I can hack it. With relative ease. The only difference is it's used a whole lot less and that there are so many different architectures that to make a virus for them all would be a waste compared to attacking windows. It's like would you shoot the big bad heavily armed terrorist everyone knows, or the little short guy with an M16 that only has a small bounty? and no, microsoft doesn't use Linux on their servers. I know. I've been inside them.

a lot of ppl hate microsoft so more virus are written based on windows...
