Japanese (non-anime) music?
Link | by korndog on 2005-11-16 02:12:30
I like anime music and all, but i was wondering if there was any good japanese bands right now. I mustly listen to rock/alt and a little rap and rarly find anything like that with anime music. There are some exceptions the like hajime no ippo, the intro rocks. A friend of mine lent me her Utada Hikaru CD, its not bad. Can anyone recommend something for me??

arigato :)

it depends...do you prefer male or female groups/singers?

i like gackt, orange range, and l'arc~en~ciel, but my favorites are female singers/groups

nana mizuki, crystal kay, and sugar are among (in my opinion) the best. megumi hayashibara and yoko ishida are pretty awesome too. and let's not forget the talented seiyuus (voice actors) that can sing. ayako kawasumi and yukari tamura exemplify that category.

but if you're looking for rock, then you won't find it among the female singers i just named. but if you're looking for r & b music or american pop-esque music, then crystal kay is a good choice. also, if you really hate cute or sweet voices, you will not like sugar and ayako kawasumi very much and you will absolutely despise yukari tamura.

well, it depends. to each his (or her) own. i hoped this helped you.

who i'm listening to...
kimeru
nagayama takashi [i think he's only got one singles album so far... but he's nice]
x japan

i'm looking into kids alive.
i guess most of the groups/singers i come across are mainly from anime songs. maybe you can start searching from there. after all, they ARE japanese bands/singers.

Tenimyu, my life. First Generation of Seigaku Regulars forever!!

I like Puffy AmiYumi. They are famous for singing themes to Teen Titans and SD Gundam Force, but Gundam Force is an Anime. And the rest of their music is only used in their show, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. They're so popular, that they'll be on Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday!

L'arc~en~Ciel, Gackt, Glay, Dir en Grey, The Babystars, KAT-TUN, HYDE, ZONE, Little by Little, SweetS, HalCali, Kotoko, High and Mighty Color, Ai Otsuka, and Morning Musume are favorites of mine. Most of them have done a song or two for an anime (I know Dir en Grey hasn't).
