9 planets, 12 planets!?! what is a planet to u?

i just read in the ny times for a project about some "objects" in our solar system i think are slighty bigger than pluto so should pluto not be a planet? what do u think a planet should require to be considered one i mean this has bothered me all week

Well, a planet is a round mass in space that orbits around the sun. In regards to Charon, Pluto's moon, I think it should a double-planet.  |

If you searched it up, you could find out what the official designation of a planet is. I think it has to be like 100,000 km in circumference to officially be a planet. But I don't know for sure...... You should look it up and let me know.

Im pretty sure that to be considered a planet it also has to have a set orbit around the sun.  |

yea it has to be like 300,000 m and has to orbit the sun and not something else and I think thats all the requirements

| Pluto might not actually be a planet. It's not one of the Jovian planets, that is, the planets in our solar system that are almost completely atmosphere. (the outer planets... except Pluto) That sort of puts it out of place... It also has a very eccentric orbit, an orbit that takes it outside the eliptical plane. Those point to the fact that it might just be a captured asteroid. However, its moon is an argument against that fact. So, really, no one knows what Pluto, or anything beyond it, really is. ;P |

Well, my teacher, is a fruit cake. He is actually a pervert, and says that Pluto is space junk, because there are astroids and such, bigger than Pluto. I think that Pluto is in-fact a planet, but that is my opinion. ^_^ See yas.

i think planet are objects have a fixed orbit around a star.....and i think i m very very very wrong to say that

planet is something thats to live or die. death means its a unless planet, live means its a useful planet to a limit, and dies. ok ok serious, planet is nothing more than a part of the solar system, where solar system is a part of a milky way consisted of alot of solar systems, and milky way is a part of the galaxy, and where galaxy is a part of the universe where its the unlimited outputter in space.  |

Geez.. actually its a bilion of object revolution on Sun, but some object has a larger size called planets. We cant predict exactly number of planets that revolution on sun, but as we know, our sight of far object not too good for now, so may be not 9 or 12 planets, its can be more of that number. For edvidence we must wait a couple of year to invite a great space ship or great telescope to identified far object form earth...
