Asian music for project help
Link | by night_link on 2005-07-12 11:27:52
Does anyone know who are some famous artists in China, Japan, and Korea? It doesn't matter gender. The reason is, my brother has a project and he wants to collect samples of music around the world. And there's one part in there for modern day music. America's covered down and Europe too. It doesn't matter the style of music. Thank you for any tips.

I think L'Arc~en~Ciel and Gackt are pretty popular in Japan, as well as Ayumi Hamasaki. Sadly I have no idea who's popular in China or Korea...

Hope that helps!

Utada Hikaru's pretty popular. She's my favorite female Japanese singer.

Japanese groups: Glay, M-Flo, Garnet Crow. Do As Infinity is still really popular. Move, not sure of their popularity, but they're my favorite group!

For China, all I know is Faye Wong.

For Korea, I only know of H.O.T., SES, Shinhwa, Baby VOX, Lee Minwoo, BoA and 1Tym.

I know there are lots more, but that's all I can think of...

Suggestions:

Japanese: Utada Hikaru, Boa, Kuraki Mai
Taiwanese: 5566, Angel Zhang
Korean: Rain

I'm sorry. I don't know any Chinese artists but I hope giving names of artists from Taiwan did help. ^_^

You can try these:
Japanese: B'z, Gackt, X Japan (thought they do not exist anymore), Arashi, Ayumi Hamasaki, Seki Tomakasu

Chinese: Cui Jian, Andy Lau, Wang Lee Hom, Jacky Chan (yes..i mean that Jacky Chan! He's not a bad singer...), Faye Wong

Korean: Rain, SES
(I'm not very familar with korean music...)

However...the project sounds interesting...i like the idea^^

I'm also doing a similar project, only more of a personal website than anything.

Japanese : (Rock) Gackt, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Miyavi, Dir en grey, Asian Kung-Fu Generation; (Pop) Ayumi Hamasaki, Maaya Sakamoto, Rie Fu, Bonnie Pink and Tackey & Tsubasa seem to be gaining popularity; (Rap) Orange Range and Rip Slyme.

As for Chinese, I don't listen to much so Faye Wong and Jay Chou are my only suggestions.

Korean, I only listen to SE7EN.

ZETSUBOU SHITA!!!
