Four in February
Link | by on 2013-01-27 08:59:03
Hey guys. I saw this on Kotaku just a moment ago about 'Four in February'. Apparently Mike Suszek of Joystiq is trying to get people to commit to completing 4 Games throughout February.

He has a Facebook page set up about it, but since I don't use Facebook I thought I would make a thread here to see if anyone else was planning to attempt this.

According to Mike, there's not really any conditions to it (such as having to actually start the game in February. You could have it half completed or something). To me, it kind of sounds like he's trying to get through a backlog since he refers to it as "facing down their Piles of Shame".

I'm going to attempt it, although I don't know what kind of success I'm going to have. I'll post up my 4 Game Picks later tonight or tomorrow, whenever I figure out which ones I'm going to attempt (let's just say that I have a LOT of choices in terms of unfinished games).

Anyone else feel like taking this challenge?

I'll certainly try it but I know I won't succeed since I hardly play video games anymore. Although, it might give me some motivation to complete at least one or two games I've been putting off. The only one I know for sure that I'd like to complete is Paper Mario: Sticker Star since I kind of got bored with it halfway through the game. XD

If computer games count, then I'd like to finish two that I downloaded recently, The Witch's House and Ao Oni (Although they're fan-made games and nothing too "serious," so those shouldn't even be counted since they're not too lengthy).

As some others, maybe some old Gamecube games that I have to replay? There was a problem with my Wii and the memory card I had (The white Nintendo one, the one with the most memory) and it corrupted most of the data I had on that memory card, so now I have to replay the games on my new memory card. I know I'd definitely like to replay and finish Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Mario Sunshine (Although I doubt I'll finish one let alone both of them before the end of February >>).

By the way, if anyone has a white Nintendo memory card and uses it with a Wii, I'd recommend getting another memory card and transferring the data over to that one before it's too late (Like what happened to me) :'D

I think I will try that.. um.. for:

Pokemon White 2 (finish means to beat elite 4 and champ)

Avalon Code

Code Lyoko

Theresia: Dear Emily

---
all 4 are DS games I haven't finished

I maybe doing this, I have so many games that I have yet to finish, but I might start fresh with one or two games

Here is my list that I would include in this :

- Fire Emblem Blazing Swords HHM (Hector Hard Mode)
- Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon
- Megaman X7 (the only megaman X game in the series that I've yet to finish)
- I don't know what would be my 4th pick, still thinking on either God Hand or Rogue Galaxy or maybe another PS2 game that I've yet to finish... Which is so many now that I think about it.

@Toyumi - Like I mentioned, there's no real rules or structure to this, so it doesn't matter if they are fan-made games or half-finished or whatever.

I had that happen to me with my PS3 when my first one died. I lost my saved data for Yakuza 4 (which I was about 25% away from beating T_T) as well as a few other games that I was half-way through.

@LD - I need to finish Rogue Galaxy as well. >.> It definitely won't be during this Four in February thing though. Come to think of it, I have to get through God Hand too.

@Schaz - Most of the ones that I haven't finished yet are portable titles. I don't know why though, since I can have my laptop and TV on when I play portable (I don't run either of those things when I play console since it would eat up too much power).

Alright, I think I've got mine picked out. I might change one of them before this gets underway though since RPG's are a really bad idea for something like this.

Ace Attorney: Justice for All - I believe I'm on the third Trial already, so I might change this before February starts since I can probably complete this game in about 2 hours or so.

Zero's Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - I'm only aiming to get through one of the endings for this game. I'm not one to replay the game and go through every possible story branch just to see a True Ending, especially in a visual novel style game.

Wild Arms 5 - I'm about halfway through this game, but I've always been meaning to get back to it and finish it. The only reason I stopped was because my friend wanted to borrow it while I was taking a break from the game and I never ended up getting back into it.

Trauma Center - I've only played the tutorial for this one, so I thought it would be a good choice. I'm terrified of surgery though, so I'm struggling to remember why in the hell I bought this. >.>

Posting my progress:

Theresia: Dear Emile - I can't find it anywhere, maybe I'll change this one if I can't find it soon

Pokemon White 2 - just beat Roxie

Avalon Code - Ice Spirit Chapter

Code Lyoko - stuck in chapter 3, using yumi as the only option to fight is a bad thing for me; should I change game?

@ Schaz- I haven't played the game, but I was a fan of the Code Lyoko TV series and if I remember correctly Yumi wasn't too much of a fighter type. Personally I would probably change the game or restart it and incorporate Odd or the other guy into fighting (Sorry, I forgot his name, it's been awhile since I was into it XD).

Honestly, I've suprised myself by finishing a game already, although it wasn't one of the ones I had planned to finish in the first place. Instead it was Firered Omega, basically the same as Firered only more difficult (Weaker Pokemon are now stronger, trainers are tougher, Gym leaders and Elite Four all have 6 Pokemon, etc.). I just beat the Elite Four today, although I was a bit under leveled, but I guess it doesn't matter now. XD

One game down and three more to go!

Here's my progress so far. Not as much as I had hoped. I was kind of in a funk for the past week and didn't do much of anything (I pretty much just stayed on my bed and kept refreshing Gendou hoping for posts >.>).

I finished Trauma Center, but I've swapped out Ace Attorney with Suikoden: Tierkreis since Ace Attorney is basically already finished as is and I kind of felt like it was cheating.

I'm highly doubting that I'll finish Wild Arms 5 now that I have swapped in another RPG, but we'll see how it turns out.

@Toyumi - I'm guessing that's a PC-modded version of Pokemon? Sounds challenging.

@Schaz - Never played that game either and I'm only vaguely aware of Code Lyoko. If you are completely stuck, then it might be a better idea to switch games and either come back to that one later, or just swap it entirely with a different one. You don't want to waste precious play time running against a wall.

Yeah, maybe changing game is a good option.. too bad that in this stage aelita only can use shield and ability.. we can only use her to go across gaps and deactivate tower. the only fighter option right now is yumi, since the story had ulrich and odd trapped somewhere else by XANA.

anyway, Avalon Code's progress is very good, and White 2 isn't so bad. I'll think about 2 other games later. maybe I'll play the megaman star force 3 red joker's data 02 option.. and see what else I've got. too bad the PS one broke already..

@Jon: I recommend watching Code Lyoko :) it is interesting series to watch.. your taste might be different tho..

So, now that we are almost done with February, how did everyone fare?

Overall, I only managed to finish 2 of the games that I said I would. I finished Trauma Center: Under the Knife for DS and I just finished Suikoden: Tierkreis for DS a few minutes ago.

Technically, I also finished Metal Gear Rising and Crysis 1 for PS3, but I don't really want to count those seeing as how I didn't include them at the start of the month. >.>

@Schaz - I think I might have seen it long ago, but I wasn't interested enough to keep watching. I could be thinking of a different show though.

I also find that it's really difficult for me to get into anime shows now. I only ever keep up with ones that hook me for some reason or another. Not sure why.

I have finished avalon code, and almost challanged the elite 4 on white 2

I found Theresia: Dear Emile, but progressing slowly.

I choose to change Code Lyoko to Royal Revolt, but still have several flag to defeat the game...

I only managed to beat 2 games as well, Firered Omega and just recently I managed to beat The Witch's House. I kind of gave up on Paper Mario Sticker Star just because it's been too boring to hold my attention (The Paper Mario series has really gone down since The Thousand Year Door >>), and I didn't get around to playing Ao Oni much at all.

However, I did get Mario Kart 7 this past weekend and it's really amazing, the graphics are great (I was disappointed with the graphics for Mario Kart DS so I got Mario Kart 7 only after seeing some gameplay of it), and the new course designs and the remakes of the "retro" ones they brought back are really good. Although I just got it this past weekend so I still have to beat the 150cc and the Mirror Mode so it's not something I can finish by tomorrow. >>

@ Jon- It is a modded version and it's a bit challenging, but it's pretty fun too since non-native Pokemon are included in the game (So anything from Gen. 1-3 can be found in there somewhere) and your choice of starters are Elekid, Magby, and Smoochum. Trying to nuzlocke it is where the real challenge is (Although I didn't nuzlocke it so I had an easier time beating the game XD).
