Nintendo has announced Pokemon X and Y for worldwide release in October and with it there will be another generation on the way from what I understand, although they only show the starters in the trailer while the other Pokemon shown in battles are all from the older Gens.

Here are (what I assume are) the starters.

Legendary Pokemon:
Yveltal

Xerneas

Details of Interest:

-The games appear to be in 3D this time around (finally) and the camera is a behind-the-back style as opposed to the overhead we are used to.

-The battles almost look like Pokemon Colosseum which makes it look pretty cool. No more 'sprites sliding around' stuff.

-According to the game designer, Junichi Masuda, the game has "a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features".

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who else is getting excited? I'm glad it's set for a Worldwide release this time. Means that we won't have to wait 5 or 6 months after Japan gets it.

On the other hand, this now means that I have to go out and get a 3DS sometime in the next few months. >.>

I was hoping they wouldn't make this a 3ds exclusive but it looks like I'll be forced to upgrade now. Though the new starters do look awesome.

@Samurai Boy - I'm in the same boat. I still don't really want a 3DS since there are only like 2 games that I would be interested in playing, but this announcement essentially forces me to pick one up at some point in the next 7 or 8 months.

Do you have a favorite from the starters yet? I'm pretty much already locked on the Fire type. I'm hoping it's going to end up as a Ninetails looking thing.

Ugh so excited! Fortunately I already have a 3DS, so no issues there :P
I'm going to be media blackouting this game like I did with B/W. Unfortunately I
got up at 3am to see this, not expecting a new gen so I already saw the starters
:(
I'm going to be getting Pokemon X (my brother is getting Pokemon Y), and I'm not
sure whether to go with the Fire starter (as is tradition) or the water starter
(who is a freaking frog).

Honestly I didn't know a new Pokemon game was coming out so soon until I looked on Tumblr this morning XD

It's really nice that they're releasing it worldwide and we won't have to wait forever for localization. Although it's good to see that it will be in 3D, it was kind of nice having it be one of the last to switch over to 3D. From what I can tell, it's going to be quite a bit of a change.

Definitely going for the Fire-type starter unless the Water-type ends up having a better final evolution (The Grass-type seems just too weird in my opinion, from what I've heard it's based off of a chipmunk wearing a hat? XD). At the moment, I'm looking at getting Pokemon X.

As a side note, I think it's stange that they're just suddenly changing to something that isn't color-related in the slightest; Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum could be considered color-esque in my opinion, but this is something else entirely. I'm not upset about it, it's just kind of weird how this came out of nowhere. XD

[Edit]

@ Inu- No, I mean that I didn't know they were announcing anything, I haven't been keeping up with the gaming community at all lately.

You wouldn't have known until this morning, toyumi, as it was just announced today.

I'll be starting with Grass type, as per tradition, and if I hate him, I'll switch to water, as per tradition. Also, I'll be getting X unless there's something better about Y that hasn't been released yet.

I am a little upset as of right now about the camera being behind the back, but I'm all for new styles, so I guess I'll just wait and see what happens just like I did for BW2. Don't wanna overhype myself and hate it like I did with Skyward Sword.

@Inu - The major thing I'm concerned with about the behind the back style camera is draw distance. I don't think I would mind that style of camera if the draw distance is really good. On the flip side, I would probably hate it if it turns out that stuff 'pops' into view or emerges from a fog o' war as you walk around. As long as you can see stuff a fair distance away then I think it will be alright.

And I think a lot of people went that way with Skyward Sword. I fell out of Zelda games after Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, so I had no level of hype when I went in to SS.

@Toyumi - I don't think anyone really knew that this was coming. From what I understand, Nintendo only mentioned this announcement thing yesterday and as Inu stated, it was only actually announced this morning. This was really sudden.

As for the color thing, maybe they just felt that it was something else they could change for this generation. It seems almost like they are overhauling the entire Pokemon series, so this could be another way of bucking the old trends.

The only thing I don't get is the legendary Pokemon. It's clear that the bird Pokemon looks like the Y in the logo of the game, but to me the deer Pokemon also looks like a Y when you would expect it to look like an X. Even if it's legs were spread apart a bit it would resemble an X, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's not a problem, it's just been bugging me.

@Maiku - Honestly, I want to have a media blackout the same as Black and White, but I will probably have to look at the version exclusive Pokemon in order to decide on which version I get. I managed to avoid stuff for Black and White and when me and my friend played the first few hours together over voice chat I felt the childlike wonder and discovery of Pokemon return (roaming around and having everything be new and fresh). I would love to have that feeling again, but I also want to make sure that I'm not passing up on a version exclusive Pokemon that I might really want. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, look or don't look.

And yes, I know you can always just trade, but I hate having a Pokemon in my main party with another trainer's ID attached to it. I'm picky like that.

Like you guys, the final evolution of the starters will determine which one I decide on. If the Fire type doesn't work out, then I will probably end up with the Water type.

The Grass starter looks like an Oshawott to me and I'm just not feeling that. I almost never choose Grass anyway. Black was the first time in like 12+ games that I went Grass. I've only picked the Water type once as well, so it isn't likely that I will go with Grass or Water this time around. I have confidence that the Fire type will turn into something awesome.

In terms of which version, that depends mainly on the version exclusives. I want to pick X, but I'm not digging the legendary for that version (I like the look of Y's legendary more).

@-Jon & Maiku:Same here with me on which version to pick but I'm most likely going to choose the version that has Latias in it.

@-Jon & Toyumi:True it was just announced so sudden especially since Black2/White2 was released last year and I expected for a remake of gen III to be announced first(now that think about it, it would be odd if GameFreak released the gen III remakes and either only have Pokemon from gen I to V and not be normally compatiable with Black/White 1&2 or have Pokemon from gen VI before the gen's proper game would be announced or released). Still... the announcement of Pokemon X & Y still came out of nowhere.

Wow I just saw the trailer when I opened my email and I was blown away.
Looks like I'm going to go with the fire starter this time,It just look so cute!!! Also it's been a long time I went with a fire started since gen III. The water starter also looks pretty nice(looks like it's going to have a mustache as it evolves)I'm curious on where the grass starter is going(Jon, now that you mention it, the grass starter looks awfully suspicious like Oshawott or Dewott.(o_O)).
Good thing I already have a 3DS.(^-^)

Dango, dango, dango, dango, dango, dango daikazoku. (^-^)

So pokemon is releasing the X and Y before I complete the BW2... and they look so good too. Unfortunately it'll be hard to get 3DS. Still they seems so good esp. the X Antler legend, and the fire starters (if they are the starters). I hope I'll be able to send my Chandelure and Vanilluxe from BW.

I agree with many who said that the grass starters -once again if it really is starters- doesn't look that good. too bad since snivy looks very good in the BW version.

So far the starter are not really appealing other than the fire starter who in my opinion, is just too cute to resist. I would love to see their final stages of evolution(Wondering what a frog could evolve into).

The battle system seems much more better than the old one. No more seeing your pokemon stand there not moving or having very little movement.

As for the behind the back camera view as compared to the usual overhead,I feel that it is not that great as sure you can see the surrounding but that doesn't really help in anyway in case you just got into a forest and have no idea how to get out.An overhead view in this case would provide a better and clear way of getting out. Then again you can follow the rule ,'Wherever the grass goes, we follow' to get out of wherever you are.

All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are an imagination of ourselves.

The Legendary Pokemon now have names, I've added them to the first post.

Also, something I didn't notice at first in the trailer, Xerneas apparently has an X mark in its eyes, so I guess that sort of ties it to the letter X (although it still bugs me that it looks more like a Y). Honestly, if they had given Yveltal a second tail it would have looked way more like an X, allowing Xerneas to be used for Y version. Again, I know that it's petty, I just can't let it go whenever I see it.

@Lucky - I know, right? I first saw it and couldn't really pinpoint why it looks familiar, but after like 4 seconds of staring at it I realized that it has the same kind of face/body that Dewott/Oshawott has. It almost looks like just a Grass version of said Pokemon. I really need to do a side-by-side.

I was also expecting a Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald remake announcement, but this is still a better one obviously. As for compatibility, I have a copy of Emerald myself as well as an old DS Lite lying around, so I could always transfer Emerald->Platinum->Black/Black 2->X/Y. Granted, the only Pokemon from that generation that I would really want are already in my possession in Black 2 (my Gardevoir, Shiny Ninetails and possibly Mismagius or Skarmory).

@Schaz - I'm guessing you mean 'hard' as in financially? I kind of have the same situation. I'm kind of hoping on my birthday (since I almost always get a little money from relatives) as well as HST/GST cheques to build up enough money.

@Shinji - I can kind of see where you are coming from on that. Without a mini-map or being able to see overhead it might be easy to get lost. I have faith that Gamefreak will have a way to alleviate this though, hopefully without making the "dungeons" too straightforward.

Jon: true. I don't think I'll be able to afford 3ds in the near future.

gambler: same here.. at least we have bw 2 to keep us entertained before x y actually come out

for me, until I am able to get a 3ds that is

as for the x legendary, maybe they think it can't be y because of it's feet? watching a y with spread leg is pretty annoying

New Pokemon Announced - Click to read!

@Schaz - That's what I pointed out at first. If Xerneas was to just spread its legs slightly then it would probably resemble an X, but the trailer just makes it look more like a Y since it keeps its legs together. It may very well have its legs apart in the actual game of course, I'm just nit-picking on the trailer.

Hey guys, I found this image online and thought it was pretty interesting (at least, enough to post that is) as a point of discussion. It's a mock-up of the possible final evolution of the starters. Keep in mind that I don't see any indications of this being the actual final evo's. This is most likely just a fan-made thing. If someone has found information saying that this is official then just let me know.

Photobucket

Personally, I would love for the fire starter's final evolution to be like that. It looks pretty awesome. Part of me kind of hopes that this is what they will look like.

Also, when the next pieces of information pop up regarding X/Y, I will add the Spoler tag to the title for people who plan to avoid everything until the game comes out.

Regardless of that tag, I want to ask everyone that from this point on you should be careful with spoiler details and to please hide those details when posting them.

These games will be huge sellers. Good news for the 3DS with its lagging sales.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

So they recently talked about Mega-Evolutions showing up in Pokemon X and Y. I want to know what you guys think of that? (at least, those of you who are willing to read up on it or already know of it)

Kotaku - Here's how Pokemon X and Y's new Evolution works

(Warning - The article is about new forms of past Pokemon such as Blaziken and Lucario, so keep that in mind if you don't want to spoil yourself on even that. The article also mentions there being 3 new Pokemon from Gen VI as well as a Gym leader near the bottom, so don't scroll past the video if you don't want to see any of that. That's as far down the page as I went.
)

I don't really know how I feel about it to be honest. I don't play competitively at all, so I don't know how people will react to it from that position, but I'm just kind of disappointed that they seem to be devoting time to new forms for old Pokemon. I don't know how many new Pokemon have been announced from Gen VI, but stuff like this makes me a little worried that they won't have very many.

Also, this is old news now, but what do you guys think of the new Type? I won't mention it by name since some people might not want to know, but I'd still like to hear everyone else's thoughts on it.

I like the fact that there will finally be a type that is strong to Dragon, but at the same time I'm slightly irritated that they changed my Gardevoir to be half Psychic/half the new type. I'm mostly concerned for how that will mess with her Strengths/Weaknesses.

First of all, I plan on buying Pokémon Y, but I dislike the Mega-Evolutions because they seem like out-of-place additions. Speed Boost Blaziken is strong enough and doesn't need one of these in my opinion. What were they thinking when they chose who to give these to?

On the other hand, I do like Fairy type because of the strengths and weaknesses it has. It seems purposeful. It'll take some getting used to as far as Pokémon being retconned into this condition, though, but the fact that Azumarill is one of those who gain it makes me excited, because that's one of my favorite Water types and it's getting a buff. =D

The big thing in my Pokémon X and Y wish list is the GTS being able to block requests for things that can't be legitimately obtained (like the level 9 Zekrom) so that there's actually more trading going on and less cloning or showing off. I'm also hoping I can transfer my Pokémon from gen 5 that I bred and trained... and it would be cool if my Dream World house carried over to the Gen 6 Global Link. ^_^;

Re: Pokemon X and Y - Gen VI Spoilers Likely
Link | by on 2013-08-17 18:43:13
@Counterfeit - I am praying that they fix the GTS as well. It's currently so broken that it's barely worth using. You have to wade through a bunch of garbage requests and then change the search settings slightly so that you can get a different set of trades in the hopes that one of them is actually doable.

At the very least, I seriously hope they give us the option of putting the search results in list form. I really hate how they currently just have them in groups of 6 or 8. Give us the entire list of trades for what I searched for and let us quickly scroll through it. Don't give us a bunch of little characters that represent the traders and then have the same ones show up every time you search.

What are everyone's thoughts now that the game has been out for a while?

Being able to swap between the grid and free movement when outdoors is such a great mechanic. Poké Radar also makes a return and works very similarly to gen 4.

Pokémon-Amie is fun, but for some reason, I can never get it to recognize "wide-eyed" faces. The mini-games are simplistic, enjoyable, and nicely designed. Super training is incredibly useful; I remember using it to EV train my then-Chespin to max defense and HP EVs after the first battle. One Elite Four victory later, and my only other EV-trained 'mon is Hawlucha. I also think the trainer PR videos were a cool idea, and well-implemented.

I know in my last post here, I talked down on Mega-Evolutions, but I liked how they implemented them now that I can get hands-on experience with them. That said, I still feel like some of them didn't need such a powerful form, but I like how they restrict it to one Mega-Evolution per battle.

The cries from gen 1-3 sound messed up to me, but I haven't tried listening with headphones. I think the first 2 gens should've used Stadium's cries; that would be wicked awesome. =o I do not understand sky battles to the point where I can't think of an opinion to have, even.

I also don't like how Exp Share gives EVs to all party members, but the fact that it virtually eliminates tedious grinding balances it out. I thought I'd miss Dream World, but Friend Safari fills that void and it's much a more time-efficient way of getting good/rare Pokémon.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the game.

Rumors involving legendaries and some previously unknown Mega Evolutions. Don't click if you don't want these things spoiled, as they haven't been officially confirmed. If that's really Diancie, it is oh so very cute.

Also, let's share stuff from our games as well as friend codes so we can have more safaris.

This is my Pokémon Y logbook.

@Counterfeit - I'm glad someone else wants to finally talk about the game. I expected someone to respond when the game was released, but I guess not.

Anyway, I detailed most of my thoughts on X and Y here in the Gamers Club thread. I've got it all in a spoiler tag. My overall impression of the game is that it was good for the 3D Transition, but largely disappointing. I felt that they missed too many opportunities for good story/characters/things to do. They also made the game insultingly easy.

I don't have any impressions on the Competitive side of the game, since I don't play Pokemon for that reason, so maybe this was a better game for those people that love to battle with others. In terms of a single-player experience though, I was really expecting better.

You aren't the only one who can't get Aime to recognize the facial expressions by the way. I can't get Wide-Eyed, Big Smile and often winking to work properly. Everything else I have to move my face and head around in weird ways in an effort to make it work. The biggest chain of successful facial mimics I've had is 3, at which point I got the 'Big smile' one and couldn't get it to recognize (I think it might have to do with the fact that I have a goatee. Might be messing with it.)

I haven't messed with the Trainer PR Video a whole lot, although I do agree, I think it's a pretty cool thing if you have the time to mess around with it. I've seen some pretty creative ones on Youtube and through Kotaku.

I don't have my 3DS and game handy at the moment, but when I get the chance tomorrow I'll hopefully get my details up on here. I don't know if I'll go back to X and Y though, so I don't think anyone will see me online anytime soon. The post-game content was very sparse and I basically just put the game down cold-turkey. Nice looking character by the way.

Also Counterfeit, that link doesn't seem to be working for me. I'm just getting a blank page.
