The club is basically about what you enjoy so much about the games. I've organised the games and there covers 1 - 14. I hope you learn about all the final fantasy games there is.

FINAL FANTASY I

The story follows four youths called the Light Warriors, who each carry one of their world's four elemental orbs which have been darkened by the four Elemental Fiends. Together, they quest to defeat these evil forces, restore light to the orbs, and save their world. FF1 ntakes place in a fantasy world with three large continents. The elemental powers on this world are determined by the state of four orbs, each governing one of the four classical elements: earth, fire, water, and wind. The world of Final Fantasy is inhabited by numerous races, including Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Mermaids, Dragons, and Robots.
Four hundred years ago, the Lefeinish people, who used the Power of Wind to craft airships and a giant space station, watched their country decline as the Wind Orb went dark. Two hundred years later, violent storms sank a massive shrine that served as the center of an ocean-based civilization, and the Water Orb went dark. The Earth Orb and the Fire Orb followed, plaguing the earth with raging wildfires, and devastating the agricultural town of Melmond as the plains and vegetation decayed. Some time later, the sage Lukahn tells of a prophecy that four Light Warriors will come to save the world in a time of darkness.

FINAL FANTASY II

The game's story centers on four youths whose parents were killed during an army invasion by the empire of Palamecia. Three of the four main characters join a rebellion against the empire, embarking on missions to gain new magic and weapons, destroy enemy superweapons, and rescue leading members of the resistance. After defeating the empire and the Emperor, the trio discovers that the fourth youth, now a dark knight, has taken the place of the previous emperor and is preparing to attack the rebellion. Upon confronting him, the Emperor reappears as a demon and prepares to attempt to destroy the world; the four characters agree to join forces to defeat him. They proceed to do so in his demonic castle.
FF II introduced many elements that would later become staples of the Final Fantasy series, including chocobos and the recurring character named Cid.

Final Fantasy III

An earthquake opens up a previously hidden cavern in Altar Cave near the village of Ur on the floating continent. Four young orphans under the care of Topapa, the village elder, explore the earthquake's impact and come across a crystal of light. The crystal grants them a portion of its power, and instructs them to go forth and restore balance to the world. Not knowing what to make of the crystal's pronouncements, but nonetheless recognizing the importance of its words, the four inform their adoptive family of their mission and set out to explore an overworld outside the area in which they were brought up to bring back balance to the world
Their adventures bring them to discover that there lies a whole world beyond the boundaries of the floating continent upon which they were living. In the world below, they discover that a warlock named Xande, one of three apprentices to the legendary Archmage Noah, is trying to possess the crystals of light to bring forth chaos and disorder. The four warriors eventually arrive at the Crystal Tower where they discover that the Cloud of Darkness is the source of the recent events. The Cloud attempts to bring back a similar situation as the Flood of Light a millennia earlier so that the world is pulled into the void. The warriors from the light traverse into the domain of the dark crystals to free the imprisoned dark warriors and defeat the Cloud of Darkness, thereby restoring the crystals and balance to the world.

The game was later released for the DS in 2006 bringing better graphics and smoother gameplay. Click Here To read the FFInsider review

Final Fantasy IV

The game's story follows Cecil, a dark knight, as he tries to prevent the sorcerer Golbez from seizing powerful crystals and destroying the world. He is joined on this quest by a frequently changing group of allies, several of whom die, become injured, or become affected by an unfortunate occurrence. Final Fantasy IV introduced innovations that became staples of the Final Fantasy series and role-playing games in general. Its "Active Time Battle" system was used in five subsequent Final Fantasy games, and unlike prior games in the series gave each character their own unchangeable character class.
Final Fantasy IV begins as the Red Wings are attacking the city of Mysidia to steal the Water Crystal there. When Cecil, Captain of the Red Wings, afterwards questions the king's motives, he is stripped of his rank and sent with Kain to deliver a package to the Village of Mist. There, Kain and Cecil watch in horror as monsters from inside the package destroy the village. A young girl, Rydia, is the only survivor and summons an earthquake in anger, separating Cecil and Kain.[12] Cecil awakens afterward and takes the wounded Rydia to a nearby pub. Baron soldiers come for Rydia; Cecil defends her, and she joins him on his journey.

Final Fantasy V

The game begins on a day when the world's wind currents begin to slow and stale. Deeply troubled by this occurrence, the king of Tycoon makes ready to travel to the Wind Shrine on the back of his drake, quelling the worries of his daughter, Princess Lenna. Upon arriving at the Shrine, the king bears witness to the Wind Crystal shattering before his eyes.

Meanwhile, a young traveller named Bartz, resting in the woods near Tycoon, beholds a meteorite plunge to the planet's surface just outside the castle. Bartz promptly investigates, discovering a young woman, Lenna, lying unconscious from attack. After rescuing her, they discover an old man in the debris with partial amnesia named Galuf. Lenna explains that she had been on her way to the Wind Shrine after her father. Galuf suddenly recalls that it was his original destination as well, opting to accompany her. Though the trio part ways, Bartz soon encounters Lenna and Galuf again assaulted by monsters in a quaking valley. The three travel together, finding all land routes blockaded by the upheavals caused by the meteorite's fall. Exploring an underground cavern, they encounter a den of pirates and their leader, Faris. With the help of the pirate captain, the group makes its way to the Wind Shrine to discover the shattered Crystal, but no sign of the missing king. The shards react to their presence, however, and an image of Tycoon appears, explaining to them that they must protect those Crystals that yet remain.

Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI takes place on a large, unnamed world. During the course of the game, its geography and landscape change due to various developments in the game's plot. During the first half of the game, the world is divided into two major continents and referred to as the World of Balance. The northern continent is punctuated by a series of mountain ranges and contains many of the locations accessible to the player. Halfway through the game, the world's geographical layout is altered, resulting in its two large continents splitting into several islands of various size situated around a larger continent at their center. This altered layout of the game's locations is referred to as the World of Ruin.
Final Fantasy VI begins with Terra Branford participating in an Imperial raid on Narshe in search of a recently unearthed frozen esper, found in the city's mines. However, the esper kills her controllers and the Imperial control over her is broken, but she is unable to remember anything about her past. Locke Cole, a thief, promises to protect her until she can regain her memories and helps her escape to the hideout of the Returners, a group of militants opposing the Empire. Along the way, they pass through the Kingdom of Figaro and meet Edgar Roni Figaro, the king, and his estranged brother, Sabin Rene Figaro, who join them. Banon, the leader of the Returners, asks for Terra's help in their struggle against the Empire, and she agrees.

Final Fantasy VII

The game's setting is similar to that of Final Fantasy VI's by presenting a world with considerably more advanced technology than the first five games in the series. Overall, the game's technology and society approximates that of an industrial or post-indutrial science fiction. The world of Final Fantasy VII, referred to in the game as "The Planet", but retroactively named "Gaia", is composed of three main land masses. The eastern continent features the city of Midgar, an industrial metropolis that serves as the capital city of the world as it hosts headquarters of the Shinra Electric Power Company, which operates as the de facto world government. Other locations on the continent are Junon, Shinra's major military base; Fort Condor, a fort with a huge condor covering up a Mako reactor on top of it; a chocobo ranch; and Kalm.

The story follows protagonist Cloud Strife, who, at the beginning of the game, joins the rebel organization AVALANCHE in their quest to stop the world-controlling megacorporation Shinra, which is draining the life of the planet for use as an energy source. As the story progresses, Cloud and his allies become involved in a larger world-threatening conflict and face Sephiroth, the game's main antagonist.

On their journey they meet, Aerith Gainsborough, a flower merchant who has been pursued by Shinra's special operations unit, the Turks, since childhood; Red XIII, a wise lion-like creature who was experimented on by Shinra scientists; Cait Sith, a fortune-telling robotic cat who rides an animated moogle doll; Cid Highwind, a pilot whose dreams of being the first man in outer space were not realized; Yuffie Kisaragi, a young thief and a skillful ninja; and Vincent Valentine, a former member of Shinra's Turks unit who was experimented on thirty years before the start of the game.

Final Fantasy X

Set in the fantasy world of Spira, the game's story centers around a group of adventurers and their quest to defeat a rampaging monster known as "Sin". Tidus, the protagonist, is a cheerful young teenager and the star blitzball player for the Zanarkand Abes. He has long resented his father, a renowned blitzball player who disappeared during Tidus's youth. Yuna is the daughter of the High Summoner Braska, who defeated Sin to bring about the Calm, a time of peace. Yuna embarks on a pilgrimage to obtain the final aeon and defeat Sin. Kimahri Ronso is a young warrior of the Ronso tribe who watched over Yuna during her childhood. Wakka is a blitzball player and devout follower of the Yevon order. Lulu is a stoic and self-possessed, but well-meaning Black Mage. Auron is a taciturn former warrior monk, and finally Rikku is a perky Al Bhed girl with extensive knowledge of machinery. The primary antagonists of the game are Maester Seymour Guado and the other maesters of the Yevon religion, while the enormous whale-like monster Sin serves as the primary source of conflict.

Final Fantasy XI

The story is set in the fantasy world of Vana'diel, where player-created avatars can both compete and cooperate in a variety of objectives to develop an assortment of jobs, skills, and in-game item rewards. Players can also undertake an array of quests and progress through the in-game hierarchy and thus though the major plot of the game. Since its debut in 2002, four expansion packs have also been released, adding numerous areas, quests, and item rewards to the Final Fantasy XI world. The five playable races in Final Fantasy XI are;

Galka

Mithra
cat-like humanoids, of which only the females are playable characters, agile and dexterous, but slightly lacking in charisma and strength.
Tarutaru
tiny humanoids with incredible power over magic, but physically weak.

I'm totally down to join. If you have character claims from the series, I'd love to
claim Zidane Tribal -- who is also my character claim on the forums as a whole.

Final Fantasy IX is by far my favorite game of all-time. I play through the game
multiple times each year, and own my original copy as well as a copy on my PSP and
PS3 that I bought through the PSN. I stopped counting how many times I've played
through it, but last I counted it was 107 times; and that was a couple years ago.

Zidane is also one of my all-time favorite characters from anything. Because of the
love I have for FFIX, I've done everything in that game and then some, and each playthrough
seems to be better than the last even when I know everything that's coming.

Final Fantasy IX Forever, oho ~

I'm down for joining also. Also as shuy said we should do character claims xD. I would claim Prishe.

As of late i've been really enjoying Final Fantasy Games. From FF8 to 13. The clear increase in graphic mastery shows how long this franchise has been following technology >_> but I hope it continues on forever :D.

As of late i've been stuck on dissidia 012 and its multiple storylines (which is very much so awesome mind you).

Final Fantasy fan forever ♥

@Zaku —
I still haven't beaten XIII. I recently got a PS3 this past December, and the first
game I bought for it was FF XIII. I love the graphics and story, and for a week I
did nothing but play that game until I reached the open area in Chapter 10. However,
that was the week of Christmas when I got other games like Star Ocean 4, Black Ops,
NCAA Football 11, and Naruto Ninja Storm 2. So, my playing of 13 fell back.

Then a few weeks later I decided to start a new game cause I kinda screwed up and
wasted some items early on, and in the chapter before the open area I rushed through
and was kinda under leveled. However, in that new game, I'm right before the Primarch
fight in I think Chapter 9? Or Chapter 8, actually.

I just don't like the gameplay of FFXIII, but I love the story and graphics. I'll
prolly be finishing it soon, but heck, I've beaten Star Ocean 4 once already and
nearly a second time, just because I love the gameplay so much. I'm hoping Versus XIII
[the game I've been waiting years for and one of the reasons I saved money for the
PS3] and the new XIII-2 have improved gameplay elements more like previous FF.

I also want to get Dissidia 012 soon O_O;!

Short post before supper.

I was a huge Final Fantasy fan up until later in the PS2's life cycle. X-2 was where my interest in the series dropped significantly. Now I mainly only play the spin-off games like Dissidia.

I've played the following to completion:
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2 (the basic ending, not the perfect ending)
Dissidia: Final Fantasy
Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

I have played, but have not completed (for varying reasons), the following:
Final Fantasy XII (Didn't like the characters or battle system)
Final Fantasy XIII (Hated the characters and didn't like the battle system)
Final Fantasy Tactics (Just never got around to finishing it. Good game though)

I haven't played the following (also for different reasons):
Final Fantasy III (I probably will one day, since the game is very cheap now)
Final Fantasy V (I don't believe I have ever even seen this game played)
Final Fantasy IX (The art style keeps me away from this one. I just plain don't like it.)
Final Fantasy XIV (I'm hoping that they will make the PS3 version playable at least. I most likely will be the PS3 version this summer and just use the 30 day trial)
Final Fantasy XI (I have it, but I did not have the means to pay the $30 a month subscription fee back then. I was younger and without a job at that point)

I'm sure I have forgotten some of the games. Anyway, if you do end up doing character claims, then I'd like to get Tifa, since I already have her claimed on Gendou.com as a whole.

Oh man, Jon, you got to get down with the art style for IX! My love for the game
is obvious so of course I'm going to fanboy it up, but in truth it really is a great
game. It has rave reviews from gaming sources and players alike, though for some
reason it feels like the forgotten game of the series.

While Im at it, I might as well list out the games I've done;

Final Fantasy I [PSP][Not Completed]
Final Fantasy II [PSP][Not Completed]
Final Fantasy III DS [Not Completed]
Final Fantasy IV | IV DS [Remake]
Final Fantasy V [Not Completed]
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII | VII: Crisis Core | VII: Dirge of Cerberus
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII | XII: Revenant Wings [Not Completed]
Final Fantasy XIII [Not Completed]

Final Fantasy Dissidia
Final Fantasy Tactics [PS1][Not Completed]

I feel like I'm forgetting something.. Oh well. >>;

@Shuy: The I agree with you on the fighting system. It is very annoying lol. The graphics make you want to be a part of the action >_> but in my honest opinion the storyline itself was too ordinary in a way.

You're on chapter 9? Duuuuddddeeeee wait until you get to chapter 11 >_> its hell but you need to get all your jobs up to max before continuing past the monsters. Trust me it's difficult unless you do. Like you I got other games and lessened my FF13 playtime. As for now i'm finishing up Hyperdimension Neptunia and Portal 2. Afterwards I want to get Star Ocean 4. Is it worth it btw?

Also. Dissidia 012 is so worth it ._. Do you have a psp? If so what firmware is it on?

@Jon: You are one serious gamer :o We should play together sometime xD.

_______________________________________________________________________________
My FF List:

Completed:
FF1,2,3,4,7,8,Dirge Of Cerberus,12,13,War Of The Lions,Dissidia(first game) and Tactics.

Inprogress: FF9,10,11, and 14 >_>

In my honest opinion 14 shouldn't have been made for PC

Re: Final Fantasy CLUB ... ファイナルファンタジー

@Shuy and Zaku : Yeah once you hit the Archylte Steppe in Chapter 11 I believe. The monsters become total powerhouses, and those plains are...huge, gargantuan it takes a good long while to explore them if your not on a chocobo. It is a extremely good grinding spot. I'll give it that much, but make sure not to be there too long. Takes away the good storyline.

Final Fantasy VIII - I've only beaten this once, with the continuous drawing magic to take any significant damage is too tedious and finding materials for your weapons. They definitely make you work for quality weapons and magic.

Final Final IX - This is a favorite of mine, the storyline, music, battle system everything is done pretty well.

@Jon : What's wrong with the art in FFIX? Seemed good to me.

Final Fantasy X : Score for no ATB system! The only problem I had with this is game is the lip syncing.

Final Fantasy XII - I despise the License Board System in this game, you're buying magic and weapons that cost give or take 4800 gil and then you're skipping all over the board trying to find the license to actually USE the weapon. The voice acting and story was good. The gambit system not so.

Re: Final Fantasy CLUB ... ファイナルファンタジー

@Yuna: lololololol.

FF VIII: Its relatively a good game, but like most games in those days it has a depressing ending >_> I cried manly tears but moved on to X-2.

FF XII: This game was just annoying ._. though the ending was worth it the battle system along with everything else sucked _ at least it wasn't as bad as the wii games >_>

In my first playthrough of XIII before I decided to restart, I got the open area
and plains -- that was chapter 11, right? I had a hard time there, and since I
wasted a lot of precious items throughout the game, that's when I decided to restart.

Now, in the playthrough I haven't played in a couple months, I'm at the end of 9.

and yes, I have a PSP, and the original Dissidia. No idea what my firmware is, though,
but I updated it for Birth By Sleep so it's like 6.35 or something.

As for Star Ocean 4, a lot of people rag on it because it has characters fitting
typical character types, the english voices can get a bit 'eh' sometimes, and
the style isn't their thing – but if you're a star ocean fan you'll love it.

I own all 4 Star Oceans and have beaten 1, 2, and 3 multiple times. I'm near the end
of the game in my 2nd playthrough of 4 which Im doing to get completion trophies.

SO4 has an amazing battle system, great crafting system, and overall is a great
game. I love every minute Im playing from beginning to end.

Yay first few members :D
Yes we should definitely do character claims!

@Shuy I like IX but VII will always be my favorite just in my opinion sorry :/

@Zaku I cried in VIII when Rinoa was left drifting through space (I was only 10 at the time give me a break) I still get sad when I hear the song though

@Jon Yup I agree after they changed the battle system I sorta lost interest

My biggest dissapointment was Dirge of Cerberus it just ruined ffVII in my opinion
I hope we can get more fans anyway thanks for joining :D if you have anything you want to ask just ask me!!

Re: Final Fantasy CLUB ... ファイナルファンタジー
Link | by on 2011-05-17 10:17:30 (edited 2011-05-17 10:22:51)
@Watashi - Advent Children ruined FFVII, Dirge of Cerberus was just there to give Vincent his own game. It didn't really screw around with the characters or back story of FFVII (except Vincent's back story), it just existed. Advent Children ruined FFVII mainly because it became the new 'face' of FFVII, especially when it comes to Cloud. I think it was Nomura who mentioned in an interview that they basically reversed Cloud's character for Advent Children because they didn't think people would relate to how he was at the end of VII. The fight scenes for Advent Children looked cool, don't get me wrong, but they were also completely ridiculous. I consider AC to be the biggest factor in ruining VII. Crisis Core did it's fair share as well, mainly by introducing Genesis.

@Yuna - I don't like the super-deformed, big head/tiny body style of FFIX.

@Shuy - I also liked SO4, but I'm not what others might call a hardcore Star Ocean fan. Till the End of Time is my favorite in the series, but apparently that game is the one that serious SO fans hate. Till the End of Time blew my mind when I first played through it. It stands out as having one of the most memorable plot twists I have ever seen.

The only thing I didn't like about SO4 was Welch. Her Japanese voice was the squeakiest, most annoying thing I have heard in a long time. If she had more screen time, I probably would have left the game in English.

I was also disappointed that the game (at least from what I know) didn't have character specific endings. I played the game interacting with only a certain character in order to get the ending where the main character and her are together, only to figure out in the end that everyone has the same ending, and you just need to interact with them as much as possible in order to see it.

That reminds me of something I was going to ask. Who here actually plans to buy FFXIV for PS3 when it hits (hopefully) this August? Knowing people from Gendou are getting it is going to be the major factor in deciding my purchase and possible continued subscription. I've always wanted to try a non-World of Warcraft MMO, but my computer isn't really fit to run that stuff as well as I would want.

I'm gonna hold off for a bit and see what other people think before I buy it I've expectations that it will be good but if it is going to be like the last one I don't think I'll bother...

...and I have to say I enjoyed Advent Children however I think it did let VII down a lot. However if you forget about the game (or have never played the game before) I think it would be enjoyable to watch but I'm totally against Dirge if Cerberus I was never a big fan of Vincent and when I played the game the English Dubbing (especially for Caith Sith) made me want to scream... I wish they'd just left it like IX or VIII?

Re: Final Fantasy CLUB ... ファイナルファンタジー

@Jon : Ah I see. As for FFXIV. I plan on getting it. I haven't really researched anything about it, which is a first for me since I always learn everything about a upcoming Final Fantasy game.

As for SO4. I got through to the final dungeon of the game, but I was extremely under-leveled so I didn't bother to finish it. The Interaction system was somewhat tedious since you had to go back to the ship for some of the scenes. You really had to be careful with the decisions in order to earn some of the endings.

Star Ocean Til the End of Time is a favorite of mine as well, considering it's was my first Star Ocean game. The inventing was much easier to take than SO4 since you didn't have mine and dig for the materials that you need. The voice acting was done well.

@Shuy: If you have 6.35 you can get dissidia 012 totally free xD.

As for the Star Ocean series I approve of every game because it brings classic free action fighting together with the days of blacksmiths and pilgrimage.

@Watashi: I agree with you on the rinoa thing >_> but what got me was how Ultimecia got that summon whichwassupposedtobesqualls.

@Zaku same and he was hard to beat ^^

What did eveyone think of the ending of VIII? I think it was one of the best because it really brought you back to when the game started :D I love it when they do that and I can understand how they used an anti-climax toward the end before the final battle to make the battle and ending even more epic. It's an ending I'll never forget ^^

For the Star Ocean talk, I actually loved Star Ocean 3, even though yeah -- a lot
of fans seem to hate that one because of the plot twist. I thought the twist was
crazy, but it didn't ruin it for me; it made it a crazy epic moment among all games.

My favorite from the SO series was 3, then 2, but I think 4 may be it now. It's close.
I also didn't mind the way endings were, and I was able to unlock all the hidden
endings in one go. I preferred being with who you end up with, anyway.

@Zaku —
How do I do that? Does that involve hacking and firmware stuff? >>;

@Jon —
I probably won't be getting FFXIV, especially if it's a monthly fee. Besides, last
I heard [even after the initial phase where it got horrible reviews] it was still
not any better and not moving in a good direction. Who knows where it is now.

and for the monthly fee reason, one of the reasons I got PS3 was specifically
because of free online gaming. I don't want to have to pay to play a game that
already costs 60 dollars brand new, when Im playing it on a system meant for
free online service. However, if there's no monthly fee, and they've fixed the
problems, I may consider it. Im talking a very low like 5% chance, though.

As for FFVII, I enjoyed all the aspects of Crisis Core and Advent Children. It's
ironic Im actually playing through FFVII right now, haha. But I think Crisis Core
was great and one of the best games on the PSP, and Advent Children a great movie.

I still havent seen or picked up Advent Children Complete now that I have the
power of Bluray on my PS3. I need to find and pick that up.

@Watashi: Final Fantasy VIII was indeed a great milestone in the series. However it was short lived thanks to the hardcore games of the world. It's still a classic game that you can play forever.

@Shuy: It only involves custom firmware xD which I have available as well as the torrent file if you want them. Your psp has to be at 6.35 though >_>

As for Star Ocean I've only really played the psp series of it.

@Shuy - I guess I can count you out then. Personally, I don't plan on playing it any longer than the free 30 days that will come with it. The only way that I would pay to keep playing it is if (and this is a long shot) my friend and at least one other person I know from Gendou buy it. Anyway, we'll have to see how that turns out. Last I heard Square-Enix didn't even have FFXIV PS3 listed in the E3 showcase, so there's a good chance that it has either been canceled or won't see the light of day until sometime next year.

AC Complete is definitely worth picking up if you have an HD display. I'm pretty sure that it's cheap to buy now as well. I remember seeing it at the local Wal-Mart for $15. It looks great in HD and a few of the fight scenes were extended.

My main complaint with AC is just how they portrayed the characters. As I said, the action was really good in my opinion (although it was also a bit too ridiculous).

@Watashi - I wasn't fond of the ending to FFVIII. I think the entire game took a nosedive in terms of plot about half way through. I personally like the theory put forth on this page (Obvious spoiler warning as it discusses the entire plot). The site is a theory by fans that Squall dies at the end of disc 1 and the entire game that follows that point up until the second half of the ending movie is a dieing 'dream'.

It's obviously not canon, just because Square would never go with a concept like that, but I found it to be a really interesting read, if only to see their reasoning behind the theory. While I do think that that theory would have made for a huge and interesting plot twist for FFVIII, I'm kind of glad that it isn't canon. I'm not a fan of sad endings. I like the happy, albeit cliche, endings.

Still, I definitely recommend reading it over if you have the time. You might want to avoid it if your a die hard FFVIII fan though.
