Hey guys, It occurred to me that a dedicated role-playing website may be welcome in the community. What to you think? I was thinking a site with wikis and information for all running games and archives for all past RPs, just a more polished and uniform place than all the forums floating around the place. I'm thinking of building it from the ground up with support from the community. What do you guys think? Could it work? Would you support it? It's just an idea, feel free to blow it away if it seems bad/unwelcome here :) I'm new, just thought I would try after a friend gave me the idea :) |

... That could work. That could really work. How about you take it to the Gendou RPers United club? I think we'd be able to better discuss things there.

This should really be in the Other section. I wouldn't support it I'm afraid. It seems like more trouble to go through in the long-run. Gendou City is here on the forum, the RP threads are kept grouped together in one place and it is easy for new users to find or stumble upon. It just seems more convenient in my eyes. Personally, I just refresh the Search page under Forum every now and then and I can see when new posts are made in RP's as well as in other parts of the site. I don't really see the point in separating it from the site. Basically, I consider Gendou City to be a dedicated RP'ing site for this community. I also like the way that Gendou enforces the rules around here.    |

Actually, I thought about the same idea, and I will have to reject that proposition. If it did happen, the administrator wouldn't know how to run it if they haven't been on Gendou long. Plus who would want to go to another site to rp for Gendou? It's actually fine as is.  |

I'm not necessarily trying to get the Gendou people on it, I'm just asking if the community in general (other RPers too) would support it. It just seems to me that forums are a little awkward. Also, I wasn't intending to make this a subset of Gendou, maybe a partner? I have my own server etc. to host it with. About the admin thing, I was going to look for some people to help with that and get into RP myself. After a while I would do a survey, see what people want and act upon it. |

I personally don't think Gendou needs a separate site at all. The forum system here works fine, if you don't like it, that's your personal opinion, doesn't mean everyone feels that way. And trying to get people to eventually join a site outside of gendou is considered advertising which is against the rules here. No advertising of other sites. I know you don't mean it, but eventually, you would be and kind of are inadvertently right now.

I don't mean to advertise, I can't advertise a site that doesn't exist :P Also, I acknowledge that not everyone feels the same way I do, the purpose of this post is to determine how many do. |

@Sunohara - I notice that you have not taken part in an RP on this site yet. Because of that I have to ask, what about the forums do you find awkward exactly, with respects to taking part in RP's? To me it just seems as though you would be creating a site to cater to an audience that is already being catered to. If enough people felt that the forum is too awkward for RP'ing, then I would assume that they would have asked Gendou if some changes could be made. If it were only a few people who found the forums too awkward then I doubt they would still be RP'ing here since Gendou.com is hardly the only RP'ing community out there. I'm not trying to shoot down your idea to start a site if you want to do it, I say more power to you if you have a desire for it, but I want to try to understand your reasons for raising the idea with the RP'ing community here on Gendou. After all, Gendou.com has no advertisements, the RP section has a guide for new players with tips and suggestions, there is a thread dedicated to discussing RP matters, the site is simplistic, RP rules are generally followed by everyone with no major problems and the rules of Gendou.com as a whole are reliably enforced by the administrator and moderators. I fail to see any awkwardness or problems. |

I personally find that forums are the best way of role-playing online. I mean, it's easy to see when someone has replied and when new RPGs are posted. Somehow, I think that it keeps us working together as a role-playing community — it's comfortable, simple, and forces us to interact with eachother together. On top of that, the people here are some of the best I've ever met — smart, talented, friendly, and amazingly creative. There's no reason to feel awkward about any of this, epecially in such a warm, inviting environment. And honestly, I don't think I want to leave Gendou for another site, even if it's a partner. We're all here for a common interest, we're kept in line, and we all have fun here. Besides, the forms load quickly and easily; I know alot of people who are still on dial-up, or just have super slow high speed (now there's an oxymoron...). I wouldn't want to waste my time loading another site when I can just load up Gendou and go. I mean, it's a bit of an inconvenience for me. Seriously, though. I appreciate your enthusiasm.

Yeah, you're right. I don't really know what's wrong with the forums, I just think that things could be done better. I was just talking about it with a friend and it seemed like a good idea. And you're also right about me never having actually role-played, it was introduced to me by a friend so I came here and saw that you only offered forums. Forums, as stated previously just feel awkward to me, I generally prefer IRC and such to forums so I thought there might be others who felt the same :) Also, forums generally seem to move slow, I would like to get into something more fast-paced. |

We don't only offer forums. We have many other features if you'd actually explore the Navigation Bar at the top of the webpage. Also, does your friend have an account here? It wouldn't make any sense if they recommended you to introduce this idea at gendou.com if they never even registered. And the reason the forums are seeming to move slow is because everyone is having exams/getting ready for exams. Granted, it doesn't move that fast when people are free, but better than this.

Yes, I do see the other services gendou has kindly offerred, but only the forums are currently relevant to RP. The only other possible alternative is the chat which is a temple to randomness. And yes, I do believe my friend has an account here, not sure which though :P You seem to be under the impression that I am somehow criticizing the whole of gendou because I don't like forums, this is not true. I love hanging out in the chat when I can, following gendou idol and such. The website as a whole is amazing! I just think that RP could be done differently. |
