Hey guys! Please read this introduction carefully before you reply. Thank you. Care to help me out with something? I'm starting this thread for the purpose of helping my parents and their business which isn't doing so well. The business is an internet business for South Africa only, a very select few suburbs within the city of Johannesburg, where I live. It's been about 3 months since the website's been up and running, but only about 3 or 4 people have signed up for the service it offers. The site gets thousands of visitors, but for some reason they don't sign up. We were wondering why people weren't signing up. Since people's honest opinions can be affected by certain circumstances and conditions, people can be dishonest when we ask people we know closely. So I was wondering what people from around the world would think. So to get straight to the point: Please visit this website, and pretend as if it were available to you. Please help me out by answering this question: Why would you choose not to sign up for this service? Please answer honestly and properly. Be as honest as physically possible! The more honest you are, the more beneficial it is for us. Your help will be very much appreciated by my entire family :) Also, any comments and suggestions on the design of the website would be greatly appreciated as well, so please feel free! P.S: This thread is in no way created for the purpose of advertising. I do not expect you to sign up or anything, I'm just wondering why you wouldn't sign up if this website was for your country. ![]() |

A family business?? That's cool... Well, frankly speaking... It's a good try... Sometimes, not all business are in a good flow, since the world's economy is not in a good shape... Still, it's a good try... Better trying than do nothing at all... P.S : Sry if my words are quite offensive.. |

@manglez Well as I may say, its the world economy issues, not JUST the US. But yeah, from what I see, it has a pretty nice way of service for a person who just found the site, since the trials can help you evaluate the service. And yeah the web design, as with every nice website, you have to do a design on it that will catch the viewer's eyes on it. @PHS Your actually missing manglez' point @naru LOL the service is for Africans only lol ![]()

@PHS: Yeah... it was a little off the point. Do you have any suggestions on the website? Do you see any reason that you wouldn't want to sign up? If so, please tell. @Naru: LOL You didn't read the introductory post clearly enough I don't think :P @DD-kun: I see... thanks for your opinion. Do you think there's anything we can do to catch the viewer's eye a little more? --- Remember guys, the more honest you all are the better. If you have compliments, that's fine. But please look around the site a little and maybe decide if it's too confusing or something and tell me how we can fix that. Any and all suggestions are welcome :) And again, potential customers is NOT what I'm looking for here, so don't feel like you have to sign up, even though you can't actually lol. ![]() |

Website Design: I didn't find much wrong with it. I rather like the simple layout personally, after all, you are trying to sell a product/service, not the web page. It was easy to navigate and I could find things I might be looking for with no hassle, whether it be games, Blu-Ray or DVD's. You have genre choices up which is a good thing and it's a pretty wide selection. I especially enjoyed the little pop ups when hovering above a title so that I could read a summary without having to navigate away from the page I'm on, it helps to keep my browsing quick. If there's one problem I may have with the website itself, it's that when browsing the movies and games the page gets filled with a bunch of the little pictures. This is both a good thing and possible a bad thing. It's good because as I said above, it's easy to see what movie is being described and most times people will pick up a movie for a closer look based upon it's cover. It's possibly bad because I've got an Ultra High Speed Connection (although I'm running on wireless) as well as a higher end computer personally, but not everyone does. Although I have no way to test it exactly I think that all those little pictures loading might be a problem for people with slower computers or connections. Like I said, I have no idea how fast the pages load with a slower computer or connection, because I don't have access to one at the moment to test it. The pictures are small, so I may just be overestimating it's strain. Content: You have a wide selection available, with current titles as well as some classics like the James Bond series. I see no problem here. Service: Other than having a section available for people to contact you with being a good thing, I can't comment on this part too much. I live in Canada, so I don't know what the delivery time and customer service is like. However since it is a family based company, I would assume it's of a higher caliber than most Mega Corporations. Prices: It's hard for me to compare this because I would have to be living and working there in order to get a good idea of what a fair price would be. I will make one suggestion however, where I can look at this from the perspective of someone living in that area. You may want to consider looking at more flexible packages. You have the option of 1 through 7 discs/per week packages, which is a good range and gives a bunch of different prices. The thing about this is, people generally don't know in advance if they are going to want to watch a movie on a certain day except for possible moviephiles who watch just about everything they can. I'll do this from a personal standpoint. When I go to rent a movie, it's usually an impulsive thing, something I decide on right away or in about a days advance. Looking at this service, I can see that 1 or two movies a week would be pretty nice, but I doubt I would be up for a movie night every week, two times a week. So some weeks I may be losing out on money because I would be paying for my 2-3 discs a week and may not feel in the mood to watch them sometimes. Video games are a bit worse for this since they usually last longer than movies. The last movie I watched was Hitman on Blu-Ray, and that was last week, the week before that I had watched Press Start and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete (Blu-Ray), and a week before that I didn't watch any movies. It's not because there was nothing to watch, it's just that I didn't really feel in the mood. So for a period of one month, I watch no movies the first week, 2 the second week, 1 the third week, and I haven't watched any this week. Keep in mind it wasn't because there was nothing to rent, it's just that I had other things to occupy time and didn't feel like a movie. If I were to be under a subscription of 1 disc a week for instance, I would miss out on weeks 1 and 4, week 3 would be fine, and week 2 I would be short one movie. Subscriptions are a fine idea, and I'm not saying they don't work in this situation. However I would feel more inclined to sign up for the site if I had the option of paying per disc, and in the case of the disc being delivered to me, I would understand if I had to give a day or so advance notice to you. I hope that helped at least a bit. My overall opinion is that the site is nicely designed and would be useful, however I would probably stick with video rental stores (depending on the selection of movies in the area and how many there were) due to the fact that I can go and rent a movie when I feel an urge to watch one. One thing I would like to ask that I assume you have done already, advertising. Have you been getting word of this website out to enough people? Are people hearing about and taking interest? Also, is the audience large enough? Are there enough households in your sites area that have access to a computer and internet service? Sorry if I rambled. |
