What's your favorite Suikoden game and why? |
Re: Favorite Suikoden?
|
Well, technically it's supposed to be Suikoden 5. Due to the game returning to its gameplay roots. But I would have to say Suikoden 2. It's my first game. It had a tremendous plot. (Although, slightly easy to read on what would happen next). The 108 line-up that I really enjoyed. And the Mcdohl factor. You won't believe on how hard I tried to look for the first title because of it. It's an incredible fan-service. Too bad they didn't continue the data-transfer idea. I'll probably catch holy hell from the hardcore Suikoden fans out there for this, but I had the most fun with Suikoden 4 and it's my favorite so far. I didn't really enjoy the ending that much because of how open it left the main characters fate (even though it pretty much provided closure for every other SoD), and the sailing aspect was tedious when you had to go really long distance (which is the same feeling I got from Legend of Zelda: Windwaker) but the overall experience was good. I loved the Naval combat aspect as well as slowly building up your own army, creating a name for it, building up your ship/mobile base and all of the SoD characters. Plus, I was really interested in the story, wondering what the main characters fate would be with the True Rune and all the betrayal stuff (I let Snowe live in the end, if only to let him live under my characters shadow of awesomeness. Killing him is too easy). S5 is next to that. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't really enthralled by it. I wasn't a fan of 3. Switching between characters as often as it did it was a real nuisance and because of that I found myself not giving a damn about the story. The difficulty curve also went all over the place where you'd be wiping the floor with people as the Knight lady and then switch over to another character and get kicked around like a soccer ball, then you switch back to Knight lady later on and she's no longer as strong as before. I also didn't like the team based formation of the battle system, it seemed pointless since it just took two characters and tied them at the hip to act as what I essentially see as one character. I never got the chance to play 2, since it's super rare and whatnot. I didn't play Tactics, although it is at the EBGames here pre-owned for like 40 dollars, so I may get it now that Izumo-san has pulled me into Tactics RPG's with Disgaea and FFT. I didn't really enjoy the first Suikoden that much, it was good, but it wasn't that memorable to me. |

I only have 2 [which is excellent]. I'd like to see more.

*Cough* Just for notification, Suikoden has always and will continue to always have the game data transfer. Like how suikoden 2 has Mcdohl, Suikoden 3 has the capabilities of recruiting Joey(Though it doesn't make the game better) Overall...2nd one is the best I would say :] 5th one came awfully close to being one of the best, but its replay factor is meh =3=...expecially since you barely ever get to use Georg(MOST AWESOME CHARACTER!!! That u get in Suikoden II...which happens after Suikoden V) |
Re: Favorite Suikoden?

If it's about the story.., I say it's the 3.. why? cause the story is interesting, about Luc (my most fave char from 1 & 2) suddenly become evil and all.. If only they paid a little more effort in the gameplay though.. the battle system sucks.. but, overall I like Suikoden 2.. nice storyline, luv the tactical battle, and the best ending is AWESOME.. Hope the next suikoden is in an advance timeline though.., I'm getting kinda bored in going back to past.. Also, I'm curious about mcdohl and riou.., what are they doing now..
My hands! They're moving against my will! Right towards Leanne's closet! Oh, the humanity!

Suikoden 2 is my favourite, actually it's my favourite rpg game of all time. I liked 5 cause it invoked a similar experience I had with 2. 3 Was also good and 'unique', I especially liked the intro. @Jonathon What is this '4' you speak of lol j/k. You really need to play Suiko 2 |

If anyone wanted to know... The timelines are all combined with each other so that each character has a purpose and is a certain age through a period of time. Timeline: Suikoden 4 - Was WAY back in the past, note that you got Ted in this game, a jerk he was(SO NOT LIKE THE FIRST SUIKODEN TAT), and you also got to recruit the legendary Schtolteheim Reinbach which started the awesome namephase which we should always use. The name started as a wtf, how did it appear when getting through a border pass in Suikoden 1. Suikoden 5 - First to Start with the kingdom of Fatima war Suikoden 1 - the Gate Wars, the first game Suikoden 2 - A few years after the first, note that if Suikoden 2 was after 5 and became Suikoden 6, the secret character would most likely have been the main character from 5 along with Georg instead of McDohl. Secret Character is McDohl Suikoden 3 - Chris, Hugo, Jacques, and Lily(the Tinto child) were born in the Gate war, but are older, so its after Suikoden 2. Also, noting that though Apple and Caeser(new) are in it, People like Flik and Victor were not. About 16 years after Suikoden 2 |

My favorite is Suikoden 2. I loved the first one and the second just improved on it vastly. Returning characters. I like all the others the fourth being my least liked. I love the series overall. |
