DS VS. PSP

what is the best of these two?

PSP and DS are the two systems on opposite ends
in this generation.

The DS is aimed to be more 'fun', and user friendly
from what I can tell. It's meant to have alot of interaction
with the touch screen and wide range of games from
the legendary Pokemon frachise, fun games for adults
like the 'cookbook' games or 'learn japanese', and
then the all-important remakes of some older games.

The PSP, however, seems made for everyday use with
the music funstion, video, computer hookup, internet,
games, etc. It's something that you can sue inplace
of an Ipod or something, and something instead of having
a phone with intetnet like a blackberry. I also has game
remakes, which are awesome.

The PSP also far surpasses the DS in Graphics and
sound quality, but the DS is imporving with each
new version they release.

Overall, it just depends on your personal views.

I have both the Original clunker DS, and the original
clunker PSP; And I love'em both, but as of now, I tend
to use my PSP alot more simply because of music. I do
love them both, though.

... Kira brings up a good point.

Miggy, head to the game section and search through
the many pages until you find a forum like this, cause I
too remembered there is already a thread like this.

A mod can close this topic whenever they see it.

Kind of like comparing the PS3 to the Wii.

Oh, and to bring this up, guess Microsoft never made a portable XBox-relating hand held. I heard rumor of that a while back.

Actually they did, if you count the MS Zune which has a games function that includes XBLA style games on it. Nothing big, but it was what they were talking about in terms of a device that synced your music, video and played games.

As for systems... a lot of that comparison seems misinformed.

With the DSi, the DS can now play music, download games, access the internet and has the added functionality of two cameras, voice recording, and now handles even better with four times the RAM and twice the processing power of the older models.

The real thing that separates the PSP and the DS are the games, and even then not so much. The PSP has a nice release library, even in RPGs these days, though the DS is still the strongest library in terms of numbers and available games, even has some genre's the PSP simply isn't capable of producing (the point and click adventure, for instance). Shuyin, I see where you're coming from in terms of comparing both generation 1 systems, but they're both on their third generations and at this point, the differences are slim, PSP has a stronger graphics output, the DS has a stronger battery life and twice the screen.

I have both as of now.

PSP
Pro:
-Is made for extreme gamers
-Has hard core games that make you wanna cry(one good example would be Monster Hunter)
-Has a BIGGER SCREEN
-Has BETTER GRAPHICS
-Has BETTER GAMES
Con:
-Risky maintenance(Like upgrading and stuff)
-UMD's are too big to carry around with you all the time.
-The damn thing is too heavy for me(I have PSP-1000 and PSP-3000).
-The damn games are too big(File Size)

DS
Pro:
-Made for everybody
-Has many simple,but captivating games
-Has two screens
-You can play a LOT of games with a 4 gig memstick.(I have like 30 or more games on my DS)
-Simple maintenance
Cons:
-WTF is up with R4?!(haha I'm having problems with R4)
-The damn thing is too small for me XD
-The sound quality isn't as good as the PSP
-Not so good graphics
-They have SMALL or DEFORMED CHARACTERS...

Bottom line is...I still pick the PSP over the DS.

Go DS!!
It's attractive and interesting. I prefer gameplay than graphic, but it would be good too if the graphic good.

@Kenji

A lot of your listings are really more opinion then fact, and not all of your facts are much more then opinion.

Both systems have games for the extreme gamer, Nintendo just has a ton more titles to choose from and opens itself to the casual audience far more easily. While the PSP's hardware does in fact output better graphics, if this is your stance on what makes a good game, your tastes come off as little more the superficial. There are plenty of DS games out there that easily outshine PSP titles, looks aren't what always matters, gameplay means a lot too. As for superdeformed or smaller characters, the PSP has games with such characters too, and there are realistic characters in DS games, it's not a system based thing, your own tastes however don't really match as a con.

Both systems have their strong points, so let's try a more objective view in comparison to be constructive.

PSP
Pros
  • UMD Video playback allows for high quality movie and DVD style watching on the go.
  • Stronger graphical output makes for very nice looking games to play.
  • Flash Memory storage for video, music, and image storage. Has been known to be able to emulate full playstation titles.
  • Sony store access to downloadable games and soon, music.

Cons
  • Bulky and heavy for a handheld. Harder to hold and to take with you on trips.
  • Shorter battery life.
  • Disc based games have been known to suffer skipping when the system is moved around a lot. (Supposedly fixed in later generations.)
  • Risky upgrades and alterations to your system, have been reported to brick the system entirely.

NDS
Pros
  • Largest library of games. Further expanded on the Original and Lite versions by the GBA port.
  • DSi has music and video playback capabilities, plus a built in camera, downloadable games, and internal memory.
  • Two Screens, Touch screen makes for innovative and interesting control schemes in many games.
  • Favors 16-32 bit output games, makes the system excellent for classic game ports and remakes.
  • Strong battery life, Classic is known to last 22+ hours, Lite 18+, DSi 16+

Cons
  • 32 bit max capabilities, emulated 64 bit max. This leaves limitations on what can be made for the system, unlike it's competitors 128 bit max straight.
  • Lite and DSi are known to be sometimes too small for people to hold comforterably.
  • Older units lack the features of the PSP in terms of media.
  • Older units had poor speaker quality. (DSi speakers are a better output then the PSP, however.)

Hope this helps more.

I prefer Ds because is more interactive and the game play is unique for now. I think Psp is more for multimedia, like movies and musics. The games are good too but compare whit Ds I think I prefer the way how you play in Ds than Psp.

I actually thought for a very long time between getting a PSP or a DS and in the end I decided on the DS, and I was glad I did.

Firstly, although the graphics for the DS are poorer, it has many fun games and games specially made to use the stylus. I think playing Taiko no Tstsujin on the DS is much more fun than on PSP.

Personally, I do not really care about musics and movies because I have my mp3 player and I don't like to watch stuff on the go. After looking through all the games on the 2 systems, I decided to get a DS. And it is also a plus point that the DS is cheaper than PSP. :)

I believe that the PSP is more in my general line of wanting to play since i am a heavy fan of RPGS, storyline, and graphics.

Even though the DS has interactive play(which is fun sometimes), I still don't always like the graphics that it has...say for Suikoden and Final Fantasy on the DS.

The PSP is a little too bulky for me, but its like a mini PS2 with its own type of twist being like a harddrive and mp3 player.

that is a tough choice. although i have a DS, a PSP also doesnt sound too bad. with tales of VS coming out soon, and the production of Birth by Sleep and .hack//LINK, im almost sad that i didnt get a psp with those three new games out.

PSP vS DS eh!!!

Considering the latest news, since
sony is bringing out the new PSP Go, i think i will prefer the PSP cause it is going to be much lighter(50%) and smaller(40%)plus no more
hassle for carrying the UMDs
its gonna have a 16gb flash memory, so hmm thats more than enough space for all things u carry around , be it movies or music or games

Pros:

:no UMD
:Graphics(best in class)
:slide( i love slide),wifi, bluetooth,usb,all much more
:better battery life

Cons:

:still no second analog stick(uhh)

so i m gonna go with PSP Go
