List your favorite and/or least favorite box art for video games. They don't have to be games you own or have played, just as long as it was officially released by the company who produced the game. You can list any box art for a game as long as it was officially used, no matter what country, just no early promotional(concept) or user created art please. You can list any reasons why you liked it or didn't like it, but you don't have to if you don't want to. If you want to put up the image then please link to it, do not embed it (trying to keep the thread easy on people's connection). My favorites: Metal Gear Solid 4 (Limited Edition) - I loved this mainly because of the Graphic Novel style of artwork that emerged after Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops/Digital Graphic Novel set of games. They had used artwork similar to this for MGS2 as well, but it didn't look as good as this. My only complaint is that the Limited Edition box comes apart in two halves, so there is a clear cut through the art. Would have been great to have it in one piece. Wild Arms 4 - No real reason, I just like the way the characters are shown. Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion - A nice and simple design with some well drawn artwork. Devil May Cry - Just a very dark cover and a good looking logo. Screams Mature. Final Fantasy VII - Just the overbearing/totalitarian look of the Shinra building appearing as if emerging from the fog. Least Favorites: Metal Gear Solid 4 (Regular Edition) - It just looks so plain and uninspired to me. I suppose it's a simple image that's meant to convey all sorts of things, but to me it looks like there was barely any effort put into it. The LE version is far far better. This one just looks bland. Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm - Come on people, just about anyone on deviant art can photoshop a better cover than this. It's just the logo, and nothing else. How lazy can you get? I have others, but I've got to work soon, I'll list a few others later. |

Well for me: Tales of Symphonia (NTSC VER.) Possibly one of my most favorite covers. Lloyd's pose is awesome, and there's the detail of the summon spirits in the background for those who want to look at it. Also introduced me to the Tales of character artstyle of Kousuke Fujishima that's so near and dear to my heart. Star Ocean 3 - Till the End of Time Largely Due to Fayt's Pose. Has a sense of epic. Mana Khemia 1 (PS2 Standard Edition) This Here's my current top fave. I simply adore the artsyle for the Mana Khemia series. It's like a mix of the lighthearted dating sim and RPG. I'd love to be able to draw in a style similar to this. The Psp version MK - Student Alliance is also one of my favorites for the artstyle as well. There's lots of bad covers out there. Maybe I'll list more and those later... |

Favorites: Wild ARMs 1 - Great illustration of the characters, and their identity. Really awesome. Final Fantasy Tactics - Very classical, yet the cover for me sends a very strong message like: "March on the battlefield without regrets." in my head. Ace Combat Series - This series really had the kicks in their covers. Jets, jets and more jets! |
