Base Model : Gundam DX BB 304
[ I n t r o d u c t i o n ]
- First of all, a big thanks for visiting this thread. Thank you!
For sure most of Gundam fans here or any mech related anime's dream
to build the same model as what they see in the anime but there are
several problems like, paints, materials, kits etc. or even why does
my model screwed up?

In this thread, we can discuss all the minor and major problems regarding
model kits. This thread will focus on beginner's level to intermediate,
basic materials, knowledge about kits, techniques to assemble a kit
and simple GUNPLA vocabularies.

Later, im going to post pics so that it will be easier to identify and
study each part. Enough of this introduction! Engage!

[ Plastic Model Grades and Scales ]
- Now, lets study first the 5 Major type of "Grades" and "Scales which
is basic and least important when building kits.

[ Basic Tools : Proper Usage ]
- ok then after knowing the Grades and Scales, lets study the basic
tools which is important in GUNPLA kits construction.

the picture above are some of my tools that I used in constructing a kit.

[ P L I E R S / N I P P E R ]
- ok then first is the pliers, this is the most important among the basic
tools since you will use this one to cut the parts in the runner. If you
dont have this Kit pliers, you can use nipper then just sand the part
so that it won't leave any mark.

[ T W E E Z E R S ]
- tweezers are used to hold the stickers without damaging it. I wouldn't
say its important but atleast try to avail them so that you wont have
problem with waterslide decals.

[ F I L E s e t / S A N D P A P E R S ]
- File set are a must! or you can use sandpaper stick in replacement.
File set / sandpapers are important since your going to use it to
sand the parts before painting and to smooth places that are taken
from the runners.

[ C O T T O N B U D S & T O O T H P I C S ]
- Cottonbuds and toothpics are mostly used in sticker. For round sticker
which must be stick carefully, cottonbuds will be a big help since its
soft and for sure it won't make a scratch in the sticker then the toothpick
is used as "push-down" in the side to make sure that it fits perfectly
in the kit.

- these are the BASIC TOOLS, there are lots of tools that are used in kits
and as you level-up, you will be needing more tools to satisfy your own
needs.

To be continued ;]

WOw first gunpla thread!!!!

SO Ich you like kit bash do you hahahahah

don't forget the SD type ^^

and I think you got it wrong on the MG part

the HG is divided into 2

1/144 and 1/100

the different between HG and MG is the articulation of the kit, all MG (although I'm not 100% sure) have some inner frame for articulation)

the masterpiece from the past was the fighter type like master gundam, god gundam etc, they have really good articulation.

and the detail is different... so

first is 1/144 which is small, then 1/100 which is bigger and more detail than 1/144, then come MG which have more complex articulation.

although the 00 series now have similar complexity of MG (like exia 1/144 although it small, it can bend it's foot more freely than any other 1/144 gundam before it)

well can I post too ^^??? I'm making SD modification for kingdom wars event in one of gunpla forum ^^

Haha, I've built like one or two Gundam models in my life,
but I'm not sure if the process was the same.
Did you just buy the models (in a box), and connect all the pieces together basically?

[ L o c k e y ]
- already confirmed bout that HG Bandai 1/100 scale model ;]
going to edit that one later xP I thought that bandai's
1/100 scale models are all in Master Grade so I just assumed
it since I can't get to bandai store yesterday when I decided
to build this one. Going to add SD grade later xP

sure post it here as long as it connects with gunpla or any
Plastic model topics ;]

btw I'll add you as member here ;] since your a modeller

[ D a n c h o u ]
- basically yes. But there are different ways in building kits
and thats the reason why I decided to make this one. Im also
a beginner and I think its a good chance to other who wants
to learn too.

YAy ^^

so let get startin'
FYI I'm a noob too with a loss screw on my mind ^^ my friend who is way better at modeling than me [longer too since he also compete in mod competition] said that I'm too brave to mod my kit

heck we all need to try at some point ^^, one will fall when tried to learn riding a bicycle at first so I thought that doesn't matter you are beginner or not, the will to learn will make you better ^^

anyway this is the first time I modify my kit, by learning from modeling forum before I do as I please ^^

so here we are my WIP on cao cao SD

PS: I'm going to skip some part since it will took more pic to see what have I done... so I'm going to tell by word. IF you are interest in the pic, tell me then I'll post it or PM

SD
Sao sao (or something like that... it's basically cao2 emperor of Wei)

base kit was Gundam DX

I kit bash this kit with sima yi sazabi ^^

change the head armor (bash using sima yi head armor and cao cao head ornament

took one shoulder armor of sima yi and mod it to fit, mod the wing (added one more wing), mod the skirt (extended it)

still not finish ^^ need painting after this

[@ICH] Yeah, than yes, after seeing the pics from Lockey above there, it was the same way.

This is actually a fun hobby, I've seen numerous other people over the internet have nice collections of models they made.
It'd be nice if I got something like this as a gift for a birthday or something,
it'd be fun to just sit there and build it. I had fun doing it years ago anyways. :D

[@Lockey] That's a sweet mobile suit model!

[ d a n c h o u ]
- wow thats good to hear! hope to see some of your kits in
the future ;] don't worry since me and lockey are still
beginners so we can learn as we go on!

but your main enemy is money though since kit doesn't come
cheap and so as the tool.. but basic tools will do ;]

im going to post the basic tools tom since I manage to get
some time

[ g m e i s ]
- if im not mistaken I know you have your own kit way back ;]
if you manage to get some kits just go post it here
or provide good info to contribute within this gunpla thread

[ l o c k e y ]
- lol are you really a beginner? as I see your work, seems like
your also a kitbasher and seems like you have some good tools
there xD come and show it nyahaha! im just using some basic tools
too..

---------------------------------------------------------

after long wait, I manage to get the GN Archer and wth
Soma Philis is going to pilot this one xD
:: the model is kinda feminine type ::

im not going to assemble it but rather going to use it as
spare parts for my next kit which will be in Custom Dyunames or maybe
Cherudim...

just a side question : isn't FG fairly new? it's a series that appeared in gundam 00 gunpla line, right?

Re: GUNPLA Guide / Tips : Beginners to Intermediate
Link | by on 2009-01-08 16:21:57 (edited 2009-01-08 16:23:39)
@yat
actually no
FG series is what you called series for kids.... since it's really simple to build and not required a long time to build (although not all gundam might have FG)

the first one might have been RX-78 that release in 1999

seed series also have their share on FG

I plan first to buy the Gadessa but seems like its bigger
than the 4 Gundams so its hard to use it for kitbash..
I just wanted the head xD

[ y a t ]
- like Lockey said, FG is not just for OO but rather in older
series too.

[ L ]
