Atlus already said that they won't. They said that this version of Persona 4 is the only one they are making and that it has everything. |
Re: Persona 4:FES(?)

@matt c really??? i was hoping they'll add another story like "the answer" in Persona 4... |

@Thanatos: Yep I'll link to the real story so you guys can get all the details. @Kenji: I would have loved for it to have Japanese vocals with subs, but oh well. Here is the link http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171167 |

Matt C is right. It wouldn't really be the best idea for Atlus to pull that again for a few reasons. One is they kind of realized that they are screwing the people who buy it on day one a little bit because they would release another version with more features later and fans would have to buy it again. The other reason is people who aren't big fans of Persona are likely to hold out on it until the FES version does come out (Such as I did with Persona 3. Didn't know if I should try it, then found out a while later that an FES version was in the works, so I waited). I think it's good Atlus did this. I mean, it's nice when game companies release like a Greatest Hits version of the game with an added feature or two (Like DMC3 did with Vergil and Turbo mode) but it's frustrating when they release another version of the game you already bought for 50 bucks with new features, Persona's AND a full blown story arc taking place after the games end as well as pricing it at 30 dollars. I'm glad Atlus isn't taking this approach this time around. I agree that English subs with Japanese audio would be awesome. I'm not sure why, but the Persona branch of the Shin Megami series has been getting worse and worse in terms of English dubs. Digital Devil Saga was very well done, but Persona 3 and Persona 4 just sound so Americanized. I'd much rather the Japanese audio. |

yea better no FES or anything...i haven't finish playing P3 when i heard P3 FES gonna come out...i thought "there goes my money later" XD but if there's err japanese audio in the...newly released i could...waste my money. lol i hate dubs >_< i'm sure almost everyone (gamers) agrees that there should be subs instead of dubs!!! it's hard to find a good dub in any games XO |
Re: Persona 4:FES(?)

well... lets just hope atlus release the next persona game without dub... but they add the english sub instead... |

Well the reason things sound so Americanized is because they are. That's the whole point behind having a localization team, you have to remember that not all people are big fans of Japanese culture. They may like the games, but that's all the exposure they really have to anything Japanese. Also some things wouldn't sound right if they tried to keep it as close to the Japanese as possible. So some changes just have to be made, however, I praise Atlus for having the guts to even keep it as close to the Japanese as they did, you never really see that in games. In regards to the dubs, they aren't bad, I personally enjoy the Persona 3 dub a lot. Persona 4 is average so far, but Persona 2 had some pretty crappy dub work. It really just comes down to the voice actors abilities. Another thing about localization is that the languages are vastly different Japanese is a much more subtle language when compared to English, relying on context and inferences, you know? Also go back and try to play some old games and look at their localization, it's what happens when you stay to close to the Japanese: Metal Gear(NES) http://media.photobucket.com/image/i%20feel%20asleep/drew123_06/Ifeelasleep.jpg Unknown Video Game(LOL) http://media.photobucket.com/image/the%20troubles/Matt19871/thetroubles.jpg Zerowing(You know I had to do this) http://media.photobucket.com/image/all%20your%20base%20are%20belong%20to%20us/Knyghtshade/zerowing.gif |

Since Persona 4 is not going to see a new version. Will Atlus bring Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou tai Abaddon Ou over to US (along with the Nocturne Maniacs Chronicles edition)? |

@Matt- My problem isn't with translations or things such as that, it's with the overall influence it has. Of course a game will be Americanized when it's translated over, but there's a limit to how far they took it. I found Digital Devil Saga to be the most well done when it comes to the voice talent, it sounded good, fit well, just made the game feel translated for an English audience and that's all. Although I will say that Cielo's Jamaican thing was kind of poorly handled. Sometimes when I play a game from Japan that has been brought over here, I just get this feeling of American influence in it, it stands out to me, as opposed to some games where it just feels naturally translated. Persona 3 wasn't badly done, I will say I didn't like Jun-Pei(?)'s voice work, as the most outstanding example. @Bbob- Considering Devil Summoner never really received the attention which the other SMT games did, it doesn't seem all that likely, but you never know. |

@Jonathan: Explain what you mean by "American influence" please? I don't quite understand what you are trying to get at. That being said I do have some more things to bring up after talking to a couple of people I know about this very topic. Translators are going to translate a character the way they think the character should speak, and then voice actors are going to channel that writing and create a voice that they feel fits the character. Furthermore, it's not like this "American Influence" ruins or changes the game at all. The story and characters are still in tact, they just sound a bit different. I really don't see how it's a big problem. Also there a different expectations about how certain age groups and people are supposed to sound. A very good example of this is Dub Chie vs Japanese Chie, the latter is far more high pitched while the former sounds more like what most Westerners would consider to be a "Typical high school aged" voice. Also. as game companies are working closer and closer together, the line between Western game development and Eastern game development is quickly beginning to blur, until one day it will most likely cease to exist at all. @Bbob Jonathan's right, Devil summoner kind of got a bad deal here in the U.S. as far as Megaten games go, because it kind of got overshadowed by Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne, then Persona 3 hit. |

Ehh..That sucks..but yeah..it also sucks to buy the same game with more features on(Kinda reminds me of Oblivion IV thought...) Anyway I agree with Jon.The English dub sucks.I prefer Japanese Audio anytime XD |

@Matt- It's hard to explain properly, I lean towards saying things such as the slang, sounds and English accents, but that doesn't quite explain it the way I wish. I will say though that I disagree with what you say about it not ruining the game. If there are voices in the game, then I like them to be at the very least bearable (Not saying anything about the VA's in Persona 3, just in general). Jun was one of the characters in Persona 3 who's voice didn't exactly go well for me, I preferred the Japanese. I know what you are saying and I do agree, everyone has their own opinion as to how a character should sound, everyone imagines a character sounding differently (one of the reasons it's hard to please fans of a movie based on a book, among others) and I do not believe that my opinion of his voice sounding off is correct for everyone. In terms of the Persona series I'd rather hear the over the top style of Japanese audio as opposed to the English version. |

@Jonathan: Than what you are trying to get at is that you just don't like the voice work? That's something that is, as you said, different for everyone. I could understand how you would like the over the top stuff in the Japanese audio, but many people wouldn't. I really don't find anything to wrong with the Dub of P4, mind you a few people could have been cast better, but oh well. So I guess when you get down to it, it's just a matter of preference. Also I wasn't saying that voice work doesn't ruin a game, it does. I was just talking about the Persona series in context of that statement. |

It all comes down to personal taste. To me, the English voice work in some games is enough to ruin it. I only barely made it through Devil May Cry because of the hammy voice work and lines, great game but the voices brought it down, however laughably bad they may have been. |
